Top Model: Viva Italia!
Ciao, Lauren! She's stunning in photographs, but her walk didn't improve much and her Cover Girl commercial was pretty painful -- so she's gone.
Not a big surprise there. Will you miss Lauren, or do you think it was her time to go?
So the Top Models arrived in Rome this week, and immediately Fatima caused drama by getting sick. Only Anya took pity on her, even bringing her food; the rest of the girls saw it as an opportunity to bash. What do you think -- was Fatima really sick, or just looking for attention?
We love that the models are in Rome! While Milan's more of a fashion capital, Rome has a classic beauty and style all its own, and so many lovely and instantly recognizable landmarks -- eye candy for those of us at home. Those lucky models! Not only do they have a sweet apartment there, but they get to Segway their way through the city on a tour ending at the Spanish Steps. We're jealous -- those Segways look like fun (well, and kind of dangerous for some of the girls!).
Next, the girls headed to a challenge where they dressed to embody Italian style. Surprise, surprise -- Anya won yet again! How many weeks is that in a row now? At least this time nudity wasn't involved -- instead, she won a gorgeous dress. Whitney wasn't pleased... but then, what exactly IS Whitney happy about these days? We used to love her, but she wastes a lot of energy on petty jealousy lately.
Then it was time for Cover Girl commercials... in Italian.
Fatima may have been sick, but you'd never know by her excellent performance. Her pronunciation and expressions practically screamed Cover Girl, and we think she's never looked lovelier than in this commercial. Katarzyna also rocked the shoot with spot-on Italian and a sweet smile.
And then there were the rest. Whitney fake-smiled and giggled her way through the shoot -- not exactly endearing herself to Jay and the producers. Anya was okay, but not spectacular. Dominique provided some comic relief -- her Italian was reduced to gibberish; her expression remained pained and confused. And Lauren? She didn't even try, and that I-don't-want-to-be-here expression never left her face. Much like Marvita a few episodes back, Lauren checked out of the competition before she even got to panel.
At panel, Katarzyna stood up for herself and sweetly, but firmly, gave Tyra a lesson in how to pronounce her name correctly (phonetically, it's Kat-ar-JENNA)... and Tyra basically flat-out refused, reaching new heights in self-absorption and rudeness. Seriously, it hurt to watch. Does she not know how badly she comes across on TV? It's not cute. It's not funny. It just makes her look toolish.
Speaking of looking toolish, what was up with Tyra putting her face on the Mona Lisa? So cheesy, so lacking in self-awareness -- oh, and the Mona Lisa isn't in Rome... or even in Italy. Didn't any of the producers bother to check on that?
But back to panel. Paulina proved once again why she could easily take over Tyra's hosting duties: she defends girls that get undeserved criticism like Kat, but she's not afraid to speak the truth about someone like Dominique, who probably shouldn't have made it this far. We wish Jay Manuel would return to panel -- his contributions actually make sense, unlike Miss Jay, who's been bugging us lately.
Anyway, Lauren and Whitney ended up in the bottom two, and we knew Lauren had to be going home at that point. Lauren's photos are arguably as good or better than Whitney's, but Lauren can't act sweet or cheerful to save her life, and the Cover Girl spot is a major factor in this competition. Arriverderci, Lauren. It was fun while it lasted.
What'd you think of the episode? Is Whitney skating on thin ice after being in the bottom two this week? Is Fatima on the rise after her awesome commercial? Is Anya unstoppable? What'd you think of Tyra's antics? Let us know in the comments, and check back soon for our Top Model podcast on this episode!
