Gossip Girl: A Spinoff In The Works?

UPDATE: Thanks to commenter Luke for passing on this EW.com article -- apparently the spinoff rumors are just that: rumors. Executive producer Josh Schwartz said the only focus is on season two. Phew!

Previously posted: Now that Gossip Girl has proven that it's a bona fide success, rumor has it a spinoff may already be in the works. The Hollywood Reporter reports that producers want to create a spinoff based on Jenny Humphrey, Taylor Momsen's character.

There are more questions than answers in this article, though. We don't know which network, if any, would pick up the spinoff, who would star, or, most importantly, if it'd be any good.

What we're wondering: if this spinoff really happens, would Jenny Humphrey be written off the original Gossip Girl so Taylor could star in the new show (like Addison on Grey's)? She drives us crazy sometimes, but we can't imagine the show without Lil' J. GG would lose a lot if she left.

Another issue -- just because the spinoff is in the works doesn't mean The CW would pick up the show. It's possible that if they say no, the spinoff could end up on an entirely different network.

What do you think -- would you watch the spinoff? Would you follow it to another network? Or should producers wait to create a spinoff and just leave Gossip Girl alone? Let us know what you think!

I so hope that there will be a spin-off, but I have heard that there isn't going to be one!

so...the spin off: Is from the books too. it's called "The It Girl" and yes, it is about Jenny. Jenny wants to be just like Serena and Blair. She wants to be the mysterious past and the girl everyone wants. So, she leaves for boarding school. The book is focused on her at school but it still ties into the lives in new york. Even in the last two books of gossip girl Jenny is back for vacation from school or for the weekend.

Maybe you guys should try reading the books. You might have more information then.

And her leaving new york isn't until after Dan, Blair and Serena graduate. Remember Jenny wants to make her own mark and be well know and sought after just like the other girls.

It's too early for a GG spinoff! Not to mention one about Jenny.

I know there's really a Jenny spinoff in the novelverse, but TVverse Jenny needs more screentime, even though she annoys the hell out of me (the character, not the actress.)

Give it two or three more seasons, then go the spinoff route.

I'm a big Jenny fan, and if the spinoff does actually happen
they have to take Taylor, not only is she the perfect age but a very talented actress
and obviously stunning!

But although the GG ratings arent that good up to now,
I guess the spinoff may be a good idea after a few seasons pass, but itll be great!

Although I want this new spinoff,
I'm still mad we didnt get the Lois Lane one!
now that would've been amazing

There is only one thing that impressed me here... I'm just very glad to hear that Gossip Girl is labeled a "bona fide success" with it's average of 2.5 million viewers! That simply means that Supernatural and Smallville with their averages coming in higher than those of GG (and usually in the 3 million range) must be considered runaway hits -- and in the case of Supernatural, safe from any further interference by the network to "CWize" it or always being "on the bubble"!! ;)

A spin-off of Gossip Girl and they never made a Green-Lantern or Justice League? Ick!

Couldn't have said it better myself... "She drives us crazy sometimes, but we can't imagine the show without Lil' J. GG would lose a lot if she left."

Grey's hasn't been the same since Addison left, and I"m afraid GG wouldn't be the same without Jenny! Let's hope this doesn't happen... at least, not anytime soon. The show has already gone downhill since the writers' strike... losing a cast member would only hurt it more!
