One Tree Hill Podcast: "How Can You Be Sure?"

Listen Now

Sarah's in shock, but Mia called it: Brooke withholds the truth from Lucas about her "pregnancy" a little too long, causing him to freak out and get slapped by Karen, since he seems to be repeating history. We're impressed by Lucas's stepping up and supporting Brooke... for the most part. Dan, however, is not so supportive when he basically tells Lucas he'd be better off if he didn't exist.

Brooke and Lucas fight

But it's not all pregnancy drama, all the time -- not when Nathan and Haley LOVE EACH OTHER! Squee! Those of you who wanted us to talk more about these two will get your wish this week. We discuss the tattoo's effect on Nathan, Naley's issues with sex (to have it or to wait?), and the adorable declaration of love. So cute!

Oh, and there's some more shady Nikki behavior. We'd rather not discuss her, but Peyton has an awesome eyeliner-related comeback for her that's worth mentioning. Also, where are Jake's parents? We speculate.

so many people on here are saying that they think lucas deserved thinking that brooke was pregnant for a little bit..i mean he did hurt her but not telling someone you are not because they call you a slut is so horrible. its a completely different thing and i dont think she had a right..

what i dont understand from you guys though is that like you guys seem to like brooke this season when i feel like shes horrible..i hated her first season and it seems like you guys like her..

the haley and nathan part is cute and i dont like them together so its nice..

Ok so here's my thing. I like lucas. there I said it crucify me all you want but it's my oppinion. Although I agree that he has done some really crappy things in this season the way I see it is that He was taken from a arguably quite life with a few friends and no girls chasing after him, and he was thrown into a relatively fast paced life where people are starting to notice him and suddenly he has two fantastically beautiful girls who want him. It's enough to go to anyones head. So although I don't think it was right i do sort of understand it.
As for the Nikki thing I really don't like that he slept with her and i think it was just a way to further the plot but whatever. The thing about lucas is that he he does things wrong... really wrong but he always tries to make up for it and he usually has good intentions. and although he may screw up, he does the right thing in the end Like when he stepped up and offerd to help brooke with the baby. you have to remember he's 17 he showed alot of maturity doing that.

Lucas gets alot better in season 3 and 3 and even four. Any lucas and nathan interaction is fantastic. It's my favorite part of the show, and Lucas and brooke in late season two and all of season three is also fantastic. also I am a leytoner and although you may not understand why right now, they really hit there stride in season 4 and they are really good together as friends in season 2 and 3.

plus I'm a sucker for a character who makes a huge mistake and then sets out for redemption and late season 1 early season 2 is about his search for redemption.

So thats my rant about why I like lucas. Hopefully it made sense and it wasn't too all over the place and I hope it gave you some insight as to why some people like Lucas.

I really love the podcast guys! keep it up!

Great podcast. I agree with Kim it isnt one of my fave episodes...I just really like the Naley stuff obviously.

I just really can't stand Lucas. Godforbid all his shitty actions could possibly have a consequence. And we're supposed to feel bad for him? HA.

Another great podcast!

Brooke's my favorite and I agree that she went too far. But as I watched the rest of the shows/seasons, I got over that feeling pretty quickly. I don't mind Lucas getting called out.

Keep the podcasts coming! Also, do you guys have favorite characters or are you guys still being neutral?

You people can crucify Brooke all you want but I think what she did wasn't so bad. Sure it wasn't nice and really bitchy but I thought Lucas, though he was handling it very well, was kind of pushy with the whole I'll help you to Brooke even though Brooke really didn't want his help. But whatever, Chad was great, Sophia was great. Peyton was stupid and Nikki is a psycho.

Obviously the best part were the ILYs!! Oh my gosh my heart melted. And I especially loved how it was in just a random place, nothing special. Not planned, totally spur of the moment. And how Nathan said it first. Sometimes I feel it's hard to read what Nathan is really thinking and feeling when he doesn't say anything. But I digress I loved that part!!! Update soon!

If roles were reversed and it were Peyton who had lied to Lucas about a pregnancy would she be forgiven as readily as Brooke seems to be?

As a guy who's had his fair share of pregnancy scares I can tell you that lying about a pregnancy for revenge or punishment is a really really crappy thing to do. Even more so if the guy wants to be supportive.

Wow, I didn't know so many people disliked Lucas....

No matter, that just makes it more fun for me. I didn't like this episode, mainly because I don't like seeing everybody hate each other.

I totally agree Caitlin, all of the yuck-tastic guest stars is really irritating. I hate Nikki, and it's not even fun, like with Dan, because she, like Carrie in Season 5, is a horrific baby-napper!! Who could love to hate a baby-napper?

Anyways, the next episode is mildly saddening, but also hilarious. But I really can't wait for the podcast for the finale, that will make me happy :)

Let me tell you I was so suppressed that Brooke wasn’t pregnant. I couldn’t believe she lied but it was good to have Lucas sweat a little, and seeing him get slapped was a plus ha-ha. I mean c’mon he kind of deserved that slap. Yes I did think it was wrong for Brooke to lie but it wasn’t planned she was just insulted by him and she reacted on an impulse. The last scene with them got me though, the pain in Brooke’s eyes when she said “That doesn’t really matter Luke, because it all hurts just the same”, had me tearing up. I say great acting by Sophia & Chad in this episode, oh and the terror in Lucas’ eyes when she showed him that pregnancy test was priceless LMAO.
I think Peyton should have never mentioned Lucas; it was like here’s your chance Peyton for you to be there for Brooke when she needs you, but no you mentioned the one guy that came in between your friendship. Now that was just stupid imo, and I’m still waiting for Peyton to prove herself to Brooke. Because I haven’t seen anything yet.
Naley was just too cute. I couldn’t believe Nathan said ILY first, I never thought he would until she did, so I was really happy about that. I love Naley there like our safe place through all the drama.
Dan was such a Jackass. How do you tell you child that you wanted him aborted, I was like WTF. I do love to hate Dan but he seriously pissed me off with that one. But he did redeem his self a little with the Lucas stuff.
Jake/Peyton/Jenny was so adorable on the couch, oh and I have to say I think you guys are being way too hard on mouth LOL. Now I agree that in season 5, there’s way too much of him. Because seriously who really cares about mouth’s broadcasting job (so boring). But Mouth seasons 1-3 was great because he wouldn’t be on every episode, and he would just be there to support mainly Brooke or Lucas because they were his closes friends. Anyways, great podcast girls! I’m itching for you guys to reach to season 3(best season eva) so hurry up LOL.

I agree, when Brooke had lied to Lucas I was like What? I knew she was mad, but common... that is a pretty nasty thing to do.
Lucas handled the situation quite well, with exception to calling Brooke a slut. However, she wan't been too receptive and it's kind of true... how could he be sure he's the dad. She did have sex with a lot of people!

I love Brooke, but I think she went too far this time.

As for Naley... all I can say is AWWWW! Those two are SO cute!

Hey guys. Little disappointed in this podcast. I do agree on the BP stuff, Peyton shouldn't have mentioned Lucas' name.

I don't really blame Brooke for lying to Lucas about being pregnant. Of coruse it is crossing a line lying about pregnancy. But I guess she'd thought she'd just keep the lie for a few hours. He did call her a slut AND he cheated with her best friend and slept with a stranger after that. So yeah, I don't blame her for punishing him a little. Since Karen doesn't seem to know how to do it, I'm happy Brooke did.

You just talked about how she crossed the line without seeing it from Brooke's point of veiw. I'd still be crushed if my BF cheated with my BFF, and THEN thinking you're pregnant with his child. And him calling you a slut. Man...

I know I sound like a whining Brooke-fan, it's just how I feel.

I do look forward to the next podcast. Sorry hurry up and post it! I'm waiting here! :D

I've been listeneing from England, and I LOVE you podcasts - this is my first time commetning on them though. Job well done. You also said that you couldn't see, at the moment, anything that would WANT you to be BLers - I sort of agree, although I was a hard-core Brucaser. Its basically second half of season 2 and the whole of season 3 which are the best Brucas times EVER.

Anyway, getting onto the actual podcast, Brooke was a bit out of order, I agree, but it was sort of justified why she didn't tell him immediately when she found out - he'd just called her a slut (in so many words). PLus, it's not the sort of thing to pick up the phone and chat about..."Yeah, hi, I forgot to mention, nope, no baby.". She told him at the next oppurtunity. That me defending Brooke :)

Loved the eyeliner comments too. Skills, by the way, is in 'special' classes - I can't fully remember what OTHs excuse was, but it's explained in season 3 i think.

Thanks muchly for the podcasts - although the speed seems to have slowed down noticably. Any possibility of faster updating? I'm sure you said on 117 that you were finishing the whole season 1 that day, so unless there was some unforseen circumstances, how come the update gaps are a week long?

TY <3

Amazing episode. Unlike most, I loved Lucas being screwed over, since he is usually the one that does the hurting. Brooke was awesome! I thought it was a little strong at first, but seeing the way Lucas has treated her, Peyton and Lindsey over the years, I wish someone would do this to his every day. Plus it was nice to see him have to step up. I think it was wrong to call the girl who was pregnant with his child a slut (even if that is the case LOL). He shouldn't have gotten off so easily and Brooke didn't let him. And one of the most amazing Brooke quotes ever for me: 'It doesn't really matter Lucas, because in the end it all hurts just the same.'

Naley were super cute here.

Peyton and Jake! That shot by the window was just priceless.

The next couple episodes are kind of boring for me, but the finale is really good.

Please guys. Can't you put two a week out! I love your podcasts and there is so much OTH left. One podcast a week is a never ending story. Pretty please!

Thanks anyway for an amazing job. Helps me get through the summer without OTH and Supernatural.

I love love the shot of Peyton holding Jenny and putting a pillow behind Jake's head! I wish there was an episode in which they showed Peyton really SHOWING Brooke she cares and she's there for her. I think Peyton really does Care about Brooke, but she comes off badly here, because it doesn't showing her living up to what she promised to Brooke in the earlier episode.
I knew you guys would pick up on Peyton's eyeliner comment to Nicki!

Ladies, as always I enjoyed your podcast for this episode. Nathan and Haley were a nice breath of fresh air this episode considering everything else was so angsty and heavy.
The whole Nikki madness is just irritating. One thing I will never understand is why this show insists on having (and keeping for numerous episodes) so many guest stars that are unlikable and not even fun to hate.

As for the Brooke/Lucas/Non-baby issue, I really dislike what Brooke did. Lucas had one of the most supportive reactions a teenager could possibly have yet she gets insulted and feels the need to lead him on about having a baby? That's just a big no-no in my books.

...And just a tid-bit of info, I'm pretty sure the reason Skills is M.I.A is because Antwon Tanner was filming Coach Carter.

Well personally even as a Hard Core Brooke Fan I was upset she didn't tell him that she wasnt pregnant right away, but she didn't and she was upset because lucas just got finished calling her whore. However it did bother me. Dan yeah he's an a$$ but I love him.Nathan and Haley are totally perfect in this eppy and I love them. I felt so bad for Keith, but I was excited to see him let go a little.

Chad was awesome this ep. Well both Chad and Sophia especially during the emotional scenes. I liked Dan's whole Lucas file as you called it. lol It shows he's actually human, he actually has a heart and that in his own weird way he cares for Lucas.
Well the number 23 has some meanings to this show like: Nathan's jersey number, the date One Tree Hill was first shown in America, the date they were picked up for a second season and some more that i can't remember right now. Naley is officially loved up. yay it's like the birth of Naley officially. I'm kinda glad Keith is leaving. He needs to move on with his life. Peyton shouldn't have mentioned Lucas' name in front of Brooke because I think that name is no longer allowed to be said in Brooke's presence. Sarah I think you will like the next episode. As always great podcast

I very much enjoyed this podcast! There was no bashing, just appreciation.

It was good to hear you girls talk about Lucas in a different light, sometimes he can actually act decent and not like a jerk at all.

Naley are cuter than ever when they told eachother "I love you" in this ep. I can't wait to hear what you will say at the end of the season.

And keep the podcasts coming, they are always a treat!

I loved this episode! I remember screaming when Naley said their ILYs!

I was totally shocked when I found out that Brooke was lying.

Skillz goes to the same school. He's in the gifted classes. They mention it in season 3 I believe. That may be why he's so wise in the show, lol.

I wish you guys could podcast 2 episodes a week like you used to! At this rate, you won't even get through season 2 by the time season 6 starts! And seasons 2 & 3 rocked in their drama (and Brucas & Naley imo).

I'm surprised you guys liked this episode so much. I thought it ws one of the weakest of the season. The Brook pregnancy thing was just weird plot and not exactly interesting. The whole thing was just handled strange. Maybe I didn't like the way it was written, but I felt like they might have had something with that and it didn't work out as well as it could have.
