Gossip Girl: School for Scandal
For Manhattan's elite, a brand new school year means loads of excitement, scandal, and (you guessed it) gossip. It looks like our favorite Upper East Side members are already on their way to making this a year no one will be able to forget.
After last week's dramatic breakup between Dan and Serena, we couldn’t help but feel a slight case of déjà vu. Haven't they been through this before? Anyways, last night, things were definitely shaky between the two. At first, things were just plain awkward, and they couldn't bear to see one another. But quickly, (maybe a little too quickly) Dan Humphrey found himself another flame -- Amanda. What did you guys think of her at first? We had a feeling that she was doomed after she was spotted with Dan by Blair Waldorf. Knowing what kind of friend B is, she took action in trying to separate the two in order to shield Serena's heart. But this Amanda girl had the guts to go against Blair and be out with Dan at a bar. Not a good idea.
Or maybe it was, according to Chuck Bass, who we find out actually paid Amanda to stick around Dan only to bring Serena back to her throne as queen bee. His plan completely worked -- Serena did become totally jealous of Dan and his new girl, plus she couldn’t help but feel a little bitter and out for revenge after Dan's harsh scolding. The consequence: Amanda nearly got all of her hair burned off by a member of Blair's posse. Ouch.
It looks like Dan isn’t the only Humphrey who's moved on. Rufus seems to be back on the dating scene since he and Lily split for good. Not the best timing for Lily to decide she needs Rufus to be her "friend." We understand she's lonely with Bart gone for business trips and Serena and Eric back at school, but she should know that entering the sacred bond of marriage means that her teenage romance with Rufus must end.
Perhaps the most twisted part of this episode was when Vanessa caught the Duchess and the Lord on their way to "doing the nasty." The first thought that came to our minds was "ew". Now, we have to admit, we weren't surprised when we saw the Duchess involved. After all, she's been known to getinvolved in some shady dealings. But wasn't Lord Marcus the one who looked disgusted to find Blair cheating on him with Chuck last episode? Looks like the tables have turned.
Besides the big Marcus reveal, Vanessa now had dirt on the Duchess, plus a picture for evidence. With nowhere else to turn to, (besides Dan) Vanessa puts the whole situation in Blair's hands. But when Vanessa thinks that Blair can't handle it soon enough, Vanessa takes action for herself. She showed the Duchess's husband the juicy picture, which probably wasn't the smartest move. It turns out Blair had already bargained for the Duchess to cover the Archibald family's debt and leave town in return for Blair keeping her mouth shut. Way to go, Vanessa.
So what did you think of this episode? Are you intrigued and excited for Serena to take over as queen bee? Or does that position strictly belong to Blair? What went through your minds as you watched Blair and Vanessa try to finish off the Duchess once and for all? Tell us in your comments! This school year is sure to be a scandalous one!
