Smallville: Lovers in a Dangerous Time

Someone on the Smallville writing staff seems to be seriously ambivalent about love lately! Last week, we had intergalactic sex bomb Maxima looking for her perfect mate and mowing down mere mortals right and left. This week, an insane jeweler takes it upon himself to quiz engaged couples to judge their fitness for matrimony -- and he kills those that fail the test. Normally Clark could handle this sort of garden-variety psycho, but this one's got a kryptonite-enhanced watch band. Who knew that glowing green rocks were so fashionable?
Psycho Love Guy kidnaps Chloe and Jimmy after their engagement party and puts them to the test. He hooks them up to lie detectors and administers a shock if they lie. The twist? He shocks the other half of the couple, because "Lies don't hurt you, lies hurt the one you love!" All righty then! Fortunately, both Jimmy and Chloe can honestly say that they aren't in love with anyone else. He releases them, and apparently thinks they'll be so happy that they know it's true love that they won't call the cops. He's wrong.
When Lois recovers from her hangover and realizes that Chloe and Jimmy are gone, she and Clark go on the hunt. Lois decides to set a trap for the kidnapper, and she and Clark pose as a couple in love. Unfortunately, they run into Oliver, who is gobsmacked by the announcement that his friend and his ex are getting hitched.
Then Psycho Love Guy nabs Lois, and Clark figures out who the culprit is. He bursts into the torture chamber, but that pesky krypto-watch lays him low. Time for torture! When Lois confesses that she and Clark aren't even a real couple, Psycho Love Guy decides to join the 'shipper wars by asking her if she secretly loooooooves Clark. Lois is forced to admit she does. But when he asks the same question of Clark, Clark just lures him close enough to head-butt him and throw the krypto-watch away. That taken care of, he can commence with the richly deserved super-beating.
Later, Lois is avoiding the heck out of Clark. When they're finally thrown together, Clark congratulates Lois on being such a convincing liar. She burbles something about being able to beat the ancient machine, but we all know the trust. Does she? And how would Clark have answered if he'd been forced to commit?
Ollie had been making his own attempt at a love connection -- he confronts Tess about a real-estate deal, then smoothly segues into a dinner invitation. Tess agrees, but she's got a surprise for Ollie -- the pre-dinner entertainment is a stick-fighting brawl. This of course leads to smooching and presumably hot nookie. But the next morning, Tess tells Ollie he was just a plaything for the evening, and nothing has changed. Ollie just isn't doing so well with the ladies these days!

how is the lois direction "unnecessary"?? at all? It's Lois and Clark..um duh? Its part of superman.
i thought it was a great episode. I screamed when i saw the part that she admits she loves him. I didn't like her when she came into the show in S4, (probably because i actually still liked lana...Ew, why was i ever rooting for Clana???) but now i cant imagine clark with anyone else.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this episode.

Y'all might wanna get to the reveal of the whereabouts of the fortress of solitude's crystal sooner rather than later and get going with clark's training. Too many unecessary distractions, including lois.
