Gossip Girl Spin-off: Little Lily in La-La Land?

People magazine reports that the the Gossip Girl spin-off is one step closer to reality -- and it's not what we were thinking.

Executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage heave dreamed up a pilot that focuses on Lily van der Woodsen during her young, rebellious teen days. OK, that we can buy. But there's more: In this pilot, teen Lily abandons the Upper East Side to 80s-era L.A., where she moves in with her black-sheep sister and goes to public school.

We have to say, we're confused by this. Sure, following Lily when she was Serena's age should be fun, but why send her to California? Why send her to public school? Why give up on the glitz and glam of the old-money Upper East Side? Doesn't this show just sound like a 90210/Gossip Girl mash-up? What do you think?

The backdoor pilot will air May 11. We'll be tuning in to see how they pull it off!

The writers and studio has really lost their touch. Lily and tediously boring Rufus? What on earth gave them the idea that we want to watch how Rufus became the boring old fart he is and Lily making horrible decisions and still? It's bad enough we have to waste screen time watching him. I'd much rather watch a spin-off on Doreta, even give me Eric and Jenny taking over. Besides, we already know what Lily and Rufus were like when they were younger: Dan and Serena.(i think Eric is adopted) We don't need a spin-off focused on their clones who will bore America to death and take away precious budget money from deserving shows.

Please CW, spare us this shame. No wonder the Emmy's ignore you. All you need is GG and 90210.

Haha you're not the only one Linda. This is the worst possible idea that The CW has come up with yet! And yes I am including "Farmer Wants a Wife" in this calculation. First off, how could they make an entire show about someone as unimportant and boring as Lily Van Der Woodson? Secondly, they would have no where interesting to go, since we already know how the story resolves, for the most part. I mean Rufus would inevitably pop up in the series, and we would already know the direction their relationship takes. And last but not least, why can't anybody write/create a decent, original pilot. PLEASE CW make good shows! ... I miss the WB so much sometimes. :(

I'm just sitting here LAUGHING at this news!
