Sad News from Supernatural: Kim Manners Dead After Battle with Cancer

Kim Manners directs Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki
We were saddened to hear the news that Supernatural executive producer and frequent director Kim Manners died last night after a battle with cancer. Creator and executive producer Eric Kripke had this to say:
Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to Supernatural, and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him.

Kim was a fantastic talent -- he directed some of our favorite episodes of Supernatural, such as Lazarus Rising, No Rest for the Wicked, Mystery Spot, and the list goes on. His career stretched back to 1970, and over the years he's worked on shows from Charlie's Angels to the X-Files, from 21 Jump Street to Star Trek: The Next Generation, and more. I had an opportunity to interview him last summer, and he was incredibly kind and giving with his time -- as well as ferociously smart and ridiculously funny. He will be greatly missed, not just by the cast and crew of the shows he helped mold, but also by the fans who were entranced by his work.

We also want to share our on-set interview with Kim, to share our memories of the man:

Our sympathies go out to Kim's family and friends. Rest in peace, Kim -- you won't be forgotten.

Kim's friends and neighbors in Missori are deeply saddened by the news of Kim's passing and we will miss him. We will miss his cheery hellos in the spring and seeing him and his family on the Lake. Our days are brighter by having known him. Condolences to Marlene and his extended family.
His Lake freinds

Thank you CW Source for both posting this up, but also for including the video interview with Kim.

I'll be following Saber's lead and at the end of the episode I will be lighting a candle ...

On Thursday, at the end of the new episode I am going to light a candle and take a moment of silence to remember all the wonderful things he's done.

Saber .. I really liked your idea so much that I am not only going to be doing it myself .. but I posted the idea over at the IMDB Boards (Supernatural, Jared and Jensen's).

I gave credit for the idea to you and your post here, and stated that if others liked the idea they could feel free to post the idea on other boards as well (recommending that they credit you/here).

Kim, we'll never forget you.

i'm still in shock. i'll miss you kim manners. you brought so much life and energy into supernatural. it's only as great as it is because of everyone working on it together.

you will be missed very deeply from the bottom of my heart.

This makes me so sad. There is a huge loss in the world now and I send my sympathies to the Supernatural family and his family. He will be missed by the fans for his contributions to our favourite show.

Kim, you will be missed.

I still cannot believe that this has happened. Even three days later, I feel like this can't be real. Kim brought so much art and beauty to Supernatural. He will never be forgotten. On Thursday, I will light a candle in his memory.

RIP Kim. You will never be forgotten.

I'm shocked and saddened. True talent and a very kind person.

"On Thursday, at the end of the new episode I am going to light a candle and take a moment of silence to remember all the wonderful things he's done." Saber, I think this is a good idea.

I couldn't believe Kim Manners is gone when I heard of it. I always looked forward to the episodes he had directed. Kim Manners was a talented man.

To the Supernatural cast&crew and Kim's other friends&family, I can only offer my compassion and deepest condolences. Cherish your memories and feel honored that you knew the true Kim Manners behind the brilliant director that he was as well.

I never had the honor of meeting Kim Manners but I was shocked and devastated when the I heard the news of his passing. He was a great director and overall, seemed like a great person. The Supernatural and artistic community overall lost a great person and he will surely be missed. RIP Kim!! Kick it in the ass!!

High crane, deep contrast:
Tracking shot, long walk and talk --
Just one tear. Cut! Print.

Kim was a brilliant director, a grounded and creative producer, and an all-around wonderful man. I can't imagine how devastated his natural and "Supernatural" families must be, given how bereft I feel when I never even had the chance to meet him.

I will never forget him.

We latinamerican fans are very hurt by the news ... it was a great man, talented ... I miss him ... to support his family and the team of supernatural ... Thanks for all KIM

As a fan of both 'The X-Files' and 'Supernatural' I know that Kim has touched on my life and view of the world in ways I will never know. It's a shocking loss, one I know I share with other fans around the world.

But it's nothing compared to the loss and grief being experienced by those who knew him. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family and friends.

This is very sad and heartbreaking news.

My heart goes out to the family of Kim Manners, his friends and everyone from the set of Supernatural.

On Thursday, at the end of the new episode I am going to light a candle and take a moment of silence to remember all the wonderful things he's done. I'll pray for him and his family.

I invite everyone to join me in this endeavor.

The whole Supernatural community is mourning the great loss of a director, executive producer, but also a great mentor and friend. My heart broke the second I heard about the news. So sad :(
Kim brought us the greatest episodes and he will be missed a lot. To the cast and crew, the family and close friends of Kim I hope you know that all of the fans are right here in support. That's what this fandom community is all about: we share one big passion that is Supernatural and we're just one big family.

We love you Kim!

Kim and marline manners were my neighbors down in Mo. he was an extrodinary guy, who came here each year when he was done shooting his show. they loved the lake and we had some very, very good times boating and fishing, and camp fires and cook outs with the neighbors. we all respected kim and marlines privacy and not very many people, if any, knew where he hid out and we aren't talking.

I'm still in shock by this. Kim will be missed deeply. Condolences and prayers for his family and friends.

~R.I.P Kim, you'll never be forgotten~
