Gossip Girl: Sweet 16

It isn’t a party until the somebody calls the cops. This week’s episode of Gossip Girl found Jenny celebrating her Sweet 16 in Serena style, much to her chagrin. When approached by Lilly and Serena about throwing a big bash, Jenny declined the offer, hoping to eat her dad’s chili and geek out on board games with the fam. Oooooh because that sounds like fun. After running into the jet-setting Poppy, Serena starts to feel like she’s become trapped by living a normal high school existence. In an effort to spice up her once wild and crazy life, she takes it upon herself to throw Jenny the kind of party that she used to be famous for -- big crowd, catered food, fancy dresses and photographers. Aghast that Serena would go against her wishes and invite every single snotty girl from school to the party, Jenny tells all of New York through the power of Gossip Girl to head over to the van der Woodsen pad for a righteous time. If you build it, they will come and boy did the kiddies flock to the Upper East Side. The cops and Rufus and Lilly arrive at the same time to survey the damage.
Serena gets reamed for the party while Jenny innocently stands by. In retaliation Serena hits the town with Poppy and laments about dealing with annoying siblings and getting yelled at by her mother. She actually believes that this should not be her life. Well, we’ve a newsflash for you Serena. That sums up every teenager’s life. Heck, it even sums up the lives of many folks approaching 30. Poppy convinces her to run off to Spain for the week. Serena agrees and then texts her mother the news.
In the midst of all this Serena reverting back to her socialite ways, Blair and Nate get cozy while Chuck and Vanessa look on. Nate breaks up with Vanessa and swears it has nothing to do with another woman, despite taking breakfast with Blair every morning. Even we didn’t know which direction Nate’s heart would take. He seemed interested in Blair and then would annoyingly flip-flop and kiss her on her forehead upon parting -- just like a brother. Chuck, ever the schemer, enlists Vanessa to make both their exes jealous. Somehow, it works, but not in a predictable way. By the end of the episode two couples are kissing and one couple is doing more than just locking lips. Sadly or shockingly (whichever way you feel about it) the pairings end up like this -- Chuck and Vanessa and Blair and Nate. We’re a bit too befuddled by the sight of Chuck and Vanessa in post-coital bliss to comment further.
Dan receives a fan letter for his writing from his half-brother. Of course, neither boys realize they happen to share strands of DNA, but when Dan calls his cell phone and his adoptive parents answer we know that they’ll do anything to stop the truth from coming out. This seems like too much of a coincidence. Hmmm?
Lots happened this week. What did you think? Are you bitter about this Chuck and Vanessa pairing? Will Serena ever stop playing the spoiled brat? Will Jenny ever come out of this funk?

i cannot believe the writers took the cheap/bizzare/stupid option out of keeping CB "alive" by creating a CVNB quadriangle - and let me guess, there'd be a BCV love triangle next season because we know how much the writers enjoy recycling storylines!
IMO gossip girl has gone to the dumps - creating OMFG moments for the sake of creating OMFG moments is just plain bad writing. you may want to create "talk" about the show - but right now the only talk you're creating is bad talk. promote the show all you want GG producers, but your money is going down the drain if your writers are too scared to write an enjoyable CB relationship that so many fanfiction writers out there can write beautifully!
i am completely disappointed with the way you have taken something so enjoyable and turned it into something so sickening that i no longer tune in to watch it.

dan and sreana's half brother who wrote the fan letter to dan probably wrote it not because he was a fan of dan but because he found out who his real family was and then saw dan's story in the new yorker and wanted to contact him so then he could probably meet them

Well I liked Chuck and Vanessa too and I'm sick of CB so if the writers do decide to go in that direction I'll be fine. At least it will spice things up!

lol..all these posts made me laugh. I have to admit that CV takes a lot of getting used to..it's ..wierd. Vaness is somewhat out of her league and all the morals and values she bragged about early in the season seems to be all forgotten now because she has turned into teh schemer that she hates. I really don't have anything against Vanessa, her character may grow on me. I just wish they would fix her hair! What's with the wierd perm and the half up-do every week??? Let her hair down straight. She's very pretty with her hair down straight. Being different doesn't HAVE to mean a scary harido...sheesh. I personally don't think she and NAte have any chemistry. Nate only has chemistry with Serena or Jenny. Even with Blair it seems old and stale. Write Jenny into this love triangle....fun fun fun!

bren are you seriously comparing CV to brucas ¿? u gotta be kidding me! vanessa wishes she would be like brooke. and even leytons know that brucas did have quemistry (not saying leyton doesnt have it too). Hate Vanessa, Hate CV. Ok with NB but rather watch CB. Why is jenny so not important when she was kind of the new queen not so long ago? and more important, what does she want to be a true humpfrey for?? humpfreys are boring and obnoxious. I miss Jenny trying to be a fashion designer and being a total rebel, and the hooking up with Nate too. :D

"The Chuck and Blair show" is what had me going gaga over Gossip Girl in the first place so it's no wonder this new turn of events is turning my stomach...what were those writers thinking?
You know Chuck and Vanessa have no chemistry when they actually have the characters professing that they do. They had to TELL us they had chemistry together (how laughable), because they knew we wouldn't see it on our own!
I think I lost a good 5 lbs after Monday's episode because of the number of times NB and CV made me puke. Ugh, just thinking about it is making me sick.
Gossip Girl, please end the madness and stop fixing what wasn't broken. Chuck and Blair!!!

I just don't know what to say about where this show is going.. I am saddened that my favorite show is not so much my favorite show anymore.. and it is not becuse CB aren't together.. they haven't been together all season!! its just matching nate with every chick on the show and then matching him with blair when they have barely talked all season??? well I guess that is what happens when you get 5 more eppies added and have nothing planned out!! so we get a bunch of crap! If I was a fan of Nate and Blair I wouldn't be sooo excited about them being back.. how rushed and weird can you have a reunion... obviously very.. and chuck and vanessa!!!! WTF! don't get me started talk about pushing your actor couples... just pathetic.. gg come back to us!! we need you back!

I personally vomit whenever Chuck and Blair come on screen, because their chemistry is zero and their personalities don't fit at all. But whenever Chuck and Vanessa come on screen, even last year in the middle of the first season when they clash over the video, it's magic.

Let me guess. You liked Brucas too? Don’t answer it – I already know.
I think this episode was horrific. I wasn't going to watch it but I made myself watch it and it officially killed my love for the show. I will NOT tune in until the mess created by these brain dead writers STOPS. And they BETTER fix this and good in Season 3 or I will stop watching completely.
Character inconsistencies were running like wild horses, from Nate leaving Vanessa for acting like Blair and turning around and HOOKING up with Blair, the owner of said faults to Chuck going from fighting for Blair to bedding Brooklyn trash whose purpose on the show is STILL undefined and is used for one thing only and that is to be a catalyst of other things.
And let’s not forget Serena who SUPPORTED Chuck just the previous episode, even encouraged him to fight for Blair to stating she was never on his team. She must be in the writer's team who dont know what character they're writing as they type up their script.
I'm SO over the mess created by the addition of these episodes that I can only blink in wonderment at the craptastic words coming from people's mouth as they praise this ‘episode’.

Your poll was very accurate- why because more like CB. Yeah, that's why the poll is favoring vomit. Anyway, this show has gone downhill like the ratings. They are giving us everything we don't want to see. SB are the OTP of this show- I'm just sad these writers made these characters- especially Blair look so sad and pathetic. I don't like Blair with Nate- it doesn't work.

The episode left me totally annoyed! It was Jenny's birthday, yet no one cared. Nate who spent her birthday with her last year, couldn't even be bothered to say happy birthday...but that's cause he was too self-involved.
I never hated Nate/Blair until this past episode. Their characters were both heavily assassinated. Blair was acting like she was 5 years old and Nate magically transformed into a self-absorbed jackass. AND I was forced to break my cardinal rule of GG watching: I actually felt bad for Vanessa!!!!! I couldn't even enjoy N/V's breakup because I was too busy going huh?! This is just not right.
I really hope this show can fix themselves and bring back Nate/Jenny and Chuck/Blair. The rest of this ridiculousness needs to cease and desist for good.

I find it really annoying that there is no option in the poll about being happy for Chuck and Vanessa.
I personally vomit whenever Chuck and Blair come on screen, because their chemistry is zero and their personalities don't fit at all. But whenever Chuck and Vanessa come on screen, even last year in the middle of the first season when they clash over the video, it's magic.
I hope the writers see this and at least give them a chance. I'm sick of it being "The Chuck & Blair Show".
So, thanks, your poll is narrow-minded and fit only for CB fans. Not everyone likes CB. Believe me.

This episode was horrible! From NB to CV- what the hell happened to this show?! Seriously, I get they want to keep CB apart but come on this was disgusting. I really don't know if I'll watch this crapfest next week because, yes, it was that bad.
