Smallville: Injustice for all

Smallville did it again! This week’s episode, "Injustice," managed to bring forth the best these actors have to offer, all while offering a massive amount of action. Are we the only ones dreading the end of the hour while the show is on? We want more! With only one episode left this season, we’re bracing ourselves for something spectacular, but also for the wait until Season 9.

But back to what happened in last night’s episode. Clark essentially gives up hiding his identity from Tess as she tells him she is making sure he’ll face the inevitable battle with Doomsday. Rushing out to save a screaming Chloe, Clark fails to realize they are being watched by a group of Tess’ meteor-mutated minions (anyone for alliteration?). He is surprised by Chloe’s change of heart in wanting him to destroy Davis Bloome now.

Tess’ gang consisting of Plastique, Live Wire, Neuron and Parasite is down by one after Doomsday makes quick work of Neuron. When Live Wire shows signs of dissension, Parasite saps her powers and Tess finishes her (oops, getting ahead of ourselves).

In one of several great scenes between Clark and Ollie, Clark asks Ollie to steal a piece of Black Kryptonite from Tess so that he can kill Doomsday.

Ollie: “Believe me, I know how difficult this is. We’re supposed to be the good guys, but sometimes we have to get our hands dirty; do what’s necessary. It’s the only option.”
Clark: “We need to kill Davis Bloome.”

Chloe finds Clark pulling out the Phantom Zone crystal and when he reveals his plan to separate Davis from Doomsday and lock the beast in PZ, Chloe tries to talk him out of it, but he goes on a tirade of saving people from themselves. Yes, it’s Superman’s constant adherence to his strict moral code that makes him the man the world depends on, but c’mon! Sometimes, Clark, you make us want to shake some sense into you.

It appears Chloe is part of Tess’ group as she meets up with Parasite and Plastique to discuss the deaths of Live Wire and Neuron. Meanwhile, Tess is visited by Ollie, who attempts to seduce her only to get a fingerprint, and Chloe dies in Clark’s arms. Heh, just kidding. Turns out Chloe was actually Ava the shapeshifter, another of Tess’ posse. After Dr. Emil helps Clark track down Plastique by means of the brain-blasting devices that killed Live Wire and Ava, Parasite saps Clark’s power.

While stealing the Black Kryptonite, Ollie almost gets caught by Tess, but (are you ready ladies?) winds up trying to seduce her again by laying naked in her bed. While Tess resists his efforts, Plastique blows open an entrance, knocking Ollie out and capturing Tess. As Tess is being tortured, Clark arrives to talk Beth (Plastique) down. Parasite slams Clark against a wall, but Green Arrow pins Plastique to a wall with an arrow and uses a green kryptonite ring to weaken Parasite. Clark gets his powers back as Green Arrow carries Tess off to safety.

In an incredibly well-acted scene between Clark and Ollie, the two heroes argue over what’s right and Ollie reveals that he killed Lex Luthor.

Ollie: “You know what? This is great. Really, really great. You don’t have the guts to take out that murdering bastard. I come in. I mop up your mess and what do you do? You get all self-righteous on me. We do what we have to do, Clark. Deep down in your heart, you that was my only choice because you’re going to do the exact same thing when you find Davis Bloom. And all I can do is hope that the guilt doesn’t weigh you down as much as it does me.

Clark, still shocked by the realization of Ollie’s actions, says they are no longer on the same side. To continue with the quotable scene, we have this:

Ollie: “How many more lives are you willing to sacrifice if your plan fails this time, Clark? Put your ego aside; you have a responsibility.”
Clark: “My responsibility is to do what’s right. Like it or not, we stand for something. We set an example for others to follow and if we don’t then we’re no better than the people we fight.”
Ollie: “I’m not your enemy, Clark.”
Clark: “Then who are you?”

Incredible, shiver-inducing scene. When Clark leaves, he returns to the farm to retrieve the PZ crystal but Tess confronts him and tells him the crystal has been destroyed so that he must kill Doomsday. Her reasoning is that an entire civilization is at stake. When she returns home, a glowing Omegahedron asks her about the crystal and the mentions something about the Savior of Kandor.

A truly powerful episode. With only one episode left, what are your thoughts? How will it end this season? The preview for next week shows Lois and Davis appearing. Epic super battle between the Traveler and the Beast? Any main character being killed off? Leave your thoughts below!
