Melrose Place: Shenanigans Abound As We Gear Up For The Season Finale

The residents of Melrose Place have never been particularly interested in shying away from a challenge, and this week was no different. Ella took control at WPK, David stepped it up at Coal, Doctor Drew made a shocking discovery and Jonah spoke his mind -- kind of.
Ella gets nerdy…and even
Ella decides that in order to save herself at work, she needs to break into the WPK computers to remove herself from the fabricated accounting reports—not that Amanda couldn't simply put them right back on—but it's worth a try. Dave Taylor is the numbers geek with the all of the codes to the computers at WPK—in fact, he keeps them on his keychain. In a highly convoluted and strange date, Ella meets the guy, attends a nerd flick, gets dumped by him and steals the keychain code.
Since Jonah wants nothing to do with the plan, Ella enlists David to help her. They break into WPK, under the cover of darkness, but don’t manage to get into the computers. However, they do hit paydirt when they discover a file on Sydney and her paintings in Amanda's office. Naturally, Ella takes photo evidence. Oh, I think we know who will have the upper hand now.
Chef Marcello gets his just deserts
When David tires of Chef Marcello's impersonation of Chef Ramsay in "Hell's Kitchen," he cans the man on the spot. Unfortunately, Marcello takes three chefs, a hostess and a bartender with him on his next venture.
David is crazed but it's Lauren to the rescue. She steps in and helps work anywhere that is needed in the horribly understaffed restaurant. But rather than thank her, David gives her grief, telling her he still can't believe a word she says.
Then, Bernadette Reese, a very important LA food critic (AND Abby from Eight is Enough!) arrives to sample the new Coal and luckily, Ella is on the scene to A) recognize her, and B) tell the staff exactly what the woman likes.
The next day, when Reese posts her review of Coal, David comes to see Lauren in the hospital. He wants to thank her and to read the review together. Naturally, it's a rave. The two decide they have a long way to go, trust wise, but they'll work on it.
Jonah gets fired from his own movie
When Simon asks Jonah to help with the casting he has no idea what he's getting into. They ask Jonah to read for Jacob (aka himself) and naturally, not one of the actresses who will be playing the Riley character is right—and she needs to be perfect. It also tweaks the guy that they are pretty much rewriting his script and he tells them as much. So they fire him from his own movie.
Later, Jonah goes to the top to tell Simon that he wants to buy back his movie rather than see it destroyed but Simon denies him, telling Jonah that he really is crazy. But Hollywood is a fickle beast and the next day Simon hires Jonah as the director of the movie. Go figure.
Riley gets childish
Riley hosts a fundraiser for her new school project and the theme is "The Child Inside Us" and it's coma-inducing. But her new beau, Doctor Drew, starts things off and it's all gravy for the school project from then on.
However, in a horrible, cringe-worthy moment, Doctor Drew offers his band for auction and no one bids. Instead, he auctions off a date with Riley—and Jonah gets into a bidding war but loses to his girlfriend, Ella, who walks in at the last minute and wins the date for $2,000. Awkward!
Doctor Drew gets evidence
It turns out that Doctor Drew's cadaver fascination has to do with the fact that Dr. Mancini's amazing heart valve is leaching toxins into the body and killing people. Drew has been conducting his own investigation, he's mad and wants to expose the truth. He asks Lauren to help him take down Mancini. Uh…after last week, we don't think that'll be much of a problem for her.
With the fate of Melrose Place twisting in the wind, what do you suggest the Powers That Be over there do in order to get more eyes on the show? Tell us in the comments!

CW has to be willing to give the show a chance to grow like they've done with Gossip Girl and 90210. Last year they moved 90210 to 9 PM during American Idol, because they knew it's a good show, but unfortunately nothing can seem to comepete with Idol. Same goes for Melrose Place, this show would have such off the charts ratings if it wasn't up against American Idol, DWTS and the last season of Lost, CW WAKE UP!!!!!!!
Interesting fact, not that long ago, the CW went as far as to stop posting episodes of Gossip Girl online in hopes of boosting it's TV ratings, they've literally bent over backwards for GG, despite it's limited appeal, that show is painfully boring now (has been for quite some time). That said, why is CW willing to do anything for that show, but a show that is actually so insanely awesome that they KNOW would do AMAZING on Mondays they aren't even trying....do they know the pot of gold they've landed on with Heather Locklear, and a dangerously sexy cast? Be smart CW. Shaun Sipos, Katie Cassidy, Stephanie Jacobsen....drop dead gorgeous, sexy and amazingly talented, a genuine delight to watch every week.

The first 13 episodes of the season were pretty awful. The most recent batch have been getting kinda awesome. If the CW tried hard enough - with a new approach to advertising the show and doing a total re-launch in the fall, it could be a success.
The show needs more excitement though. More 'Nip/Tuck' meets 'The O.C.'. A sleek trendy West Hollywood vibe that balances both light-hearted comedic drama and can occasionally push the envelope in network television.

Guest appearances by Jamie Luner, Lisa Rinna, Marcia Cross and Rob Estes. The new storyline of pitting Michael & Amanda against the youngsters are very cool.
