The Sourcies wind up the season with Best Cliffhanger
Yet another Sourcies season comes to an end... but we've saved the best for last! Our top shows hit us with loads of delicious cliffhangers this year, but which one rises above the others? Take a look and see what you think:
The poll closes on July 21 at 11:59pm central. Feel free to share the poll, but send folks back to us to comment. We'll wrap up all of the Sourcies on July 22 -- and then we dive straight into Comic Con!
The Sourcies jerk some tears with Most Heartbreaking Moment
You'll excuse us if we're a little fragile at the moment -- we've been sobbing quietly into our hankies as we went through the roster of your nominations for most heartbreaking moments on the CW this season. It was a bad year for moms, love and brothers on The CW, and we're still recovering. See what we mean below:
OK, because our poll provider is being wonky, and the poll is supposed to be closed, I'm taking a snapshot of the results and taking it down. And the winner is:
Oh, and congrats to Damon and Alaric of The Vampire Diaries, who defeated the tomb vamps and won the title of Best Fight. Actually, those tomb vamps were less of a challenge than Castiel and Dean from Supernatural -- the vampire/teacher duo fended off the angel/Hunter smackdown by only 4 percent. Well done winning that tough fight, boys!
The CW sure knows how to heat thing up ... so much that we couldn't limit ourselves to just five super-hot moments in this Sourcie category! Check out the video to see which moments made our temperatures rise this years:
Who's the hottest of them all? Your votes decide. The poll closes at 11:59 pm Central on June 28. One vote per person -- and yes, we've got our tech as secure as possible, so we mean that. (If we tightened it any more, we'd have to ask you to come in and cast paper ballots!) Feel free to promote and share the poll -- heck, we encourage you to get as many of your fellow fans across the globe to vote -- but please send people here to comment.
Oh, and speaking of hot: Congratulations to Damon and Katherine (although he thought it was Elena) of the Vampire Diaries, who took the Sourcie for Best Kiss with 43 percent of the vote. Well done! (Oh, and Damon -- if you need to practice your pucker over the summer, we're available...)
NOTE: NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED! Check back later today for the first Sourcie!
Hello out there in Sourceland! We've got big plans afoot for the summer, and we need your help! We're compiling nominations for the 2010 Sourcies, which will run from June 14 through July 16. Why the short run? Because after that, we'll be sending you news from Comic Con, the TCAs, the Teen Choice Awards, and still more events until the new season starts. So let's got to it!
Our Sourcies categories this year are:
Best Kiss
Hottest Scene (as in, sparks flying between two people, usually with some bom-chicka-wow thrown in)
Best Fight
Most Heartbreaking Moment
Most Surprising Moment
Best Villain
Funniest Moment
Favorite Bad Boy
Favorite Recurring Character
Best Cliffhanger
We're expecting big things this year with the addition of The Vampire Diaries -- will the Salvatore brothers be able to give the Winchester boys from Supernatural a run for their money? And how will One Tree Hill fans vote now that Leyton is out of the picture? Do the scrappy underdogs from Life Unexpected have a chance at glory? Will Gossip Girlreap in votes what it gets in buzz? Will Melrose Place get some love from the fans even though the network canceled it? Will Smallville fans come out in force after the move to Friday night? Will 90210's crazy plot twists make the grade? And will America's Next Top Model bask in rewards or wallow in dreckitude?
It's all up to you: Let us know what scenes, characters and moments should appear in each category. We'll present our slate of Sourcies starting June 14 -- get ready, and may the best show win!
The CW: Hellcats and ass-kickers join the schedule
The CW is sticking with what works, adding just two new shows to its schedule. But those two shows allow the net wot stretch out its original programing over five nights -- a first for the relative newcomer.
In keeping with The CW's emphasis on TV for chicks who spend, the net's two new shows feature women -- one concentrating on women who do high kicks, while the other follows a woman who kicks ass.
New shows:
Hellcats - Wednesday 9pm
So, remember "Bring It On?" Remember the part where a rebel-type chick who used to be a gymnast joined the cheerleading team, and hilarity ensued? Take that plotline, move it to a university in the South where football is life, then stir in Ashley Tisdale as the leader of the cheerocracy and Tom Welling as an executive producer. Go, Hellcats!
Nikita - Thursday 9pm
Maggie Q is the titular character, a woman who was taken out of prison and trained to kill for the CIA. Now she's escaped the agency, and she wants to make sure the ones she left behind have an opportunity to flee as well. Plus, Maggie Q had the best quote of the Upfronts: "I don't think any of you understand how good looking it is backstage. It's very intimidating. I had to push the A cups up a little. We exist!" How can we not want to love the show after that?
We've got the full fall schedule -- and our comments -- after the jump. Read on!
Since we follow a whole lot more entertainment than just The CW, we've put together Snark Syndicate; a Facebook page that runs tabs on the industry and directs readers to the best news and time-wastingest content. Like this re-edited video about George Costanza. Why did we post it? Because it's hilarious. We love it. You'll love it too.
We also cover items with a little more heft, like the Conan O'Brien vs. NBC saga, what's going on with your favorite Glee actors and what TV pilots to expect this fall. Basically, it's a one-stop-shop for some entertainment news, our Source content and some extra giggles.
As a special side-package we've also started a Twitter feed, Pop Connoisseur, as a speedier way to get the news out there.
Best of all, this is another chance us to interact with you and you to interact with each other. Comment on our posts, let us know what you like and don't like in entertainment, and start some conversations. We'd love to hear from you.
It's tweet time! From May 3 to May 7, you get a chance to tweet with the stars and producers of all the shows. Head on over to tweet.cwtv.com and read the 140-characters-or-less thoughts of the folks who make TV worth watching.
Folks in the Eastern and Central time zones can tweet live with the bigwigs during the shows. Mountain and Pacific zoners? Sorry, guys -- with one exception, you'll have to tweet before the shows air there.
Here's who's tweeting:
Monday, May 3 One Tree Hill: Robert Buckley. Gossip Girl: Executive Producer Josh Schwartz and Zuzanna Szadkowski (Dorota).
Tuesday, May 4 90210: Shenae Grimes (Annie), Michael Steger (Navid), Tristan Wilds (Dixon) and Trevor Donovan (Teddy). Life Unexpected: Kristoffer Polaha (Nate), Shiri Appleby (Kate), Austin Basis (Math) and executive producer Liz Tigelaar.
Wednesday, May 5 America's Next Top Model: Jay Manuel and Nigel Barker, plus a "surprise guest" joins them from 8:45 - 9pm Eastern. We'll only be surprised if the guest isn't Tyra.
Thursday, May 6 The Vampire Diaries: Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) and executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. Plus, SPECIAL WEST COAST BONUS TWEETS! Kevin and Julie will tweet during the Pacific/Mountain airing as well! Supernatural: Misha Collins (Castiel).
Friday, May 7 Smallville: Erica Durance (Lois Lane).
Well what do you know -- Life Unexpected handed us a truly unexpected ending to the season. The show had been building up to a big Baze/Cate love match, and yeah, we were sort of yawning as we anticipated the Graduate-like scene where Baze interrupted Cate and Ryan's wedding, and Cate ran off with him. So when the moment came, and it wasn't what we expected...well, bravo, show.
Other things we loved:
The adoption: It was a long time coming, and we;re thrilled that Lux finally has the parents she's so desperately wanted. Yay!
Everything Ryan (almost): My god, after Ryan was so open and understanding and sweet with Lux, we would have rioted if Cate had run off with Baze. We adored him taking the time to reassure her, to let her know that he understood how she felt about getting her family back together, and that he'd postpone the wedding if she wasn't ready for this to happen. Ryan - we heart you.
Life Unexpected: Shiri Appleby on the Big Wedding, Liz Tigelaar & Mary Beth Basile on What Comes Next
We've made it to the season finale of Life Unexpected... and we're not sure what to expect!
Shiri Appleby isn't helping us out much -- she won't even confirm or deny if the wedding goes through! She does, however, tell us a little about Cate's arc, and talks about what made Cate change:
Producers Liz Tigelaar and Mary Beth Basile have a few hints -- not just about tonight, but about what we could expect next season as well! We're hoping we get a chance to see them tell those stories...
What do you think? Did Liz's dad make you get all sniffly, too? Talk about it in the comments!
Lux totally knows what's going on, even if Baze and Cate don't.
Well, well, well, if it isn't another week of Cate issues. We're going to give her a pass because she's getting married in a few days, and she's spent considerably less time than the average woman being a bridezilla. But seriously, can anyone else have problems on this show and actually express discontent? In any case, it was nothing an 80s sing-a-long and some pinot grigio couldn't fix.
Besides, it's only natural that someone might feel a twinge uncomfortable seeing their father for the first time in over two decades...
Life Unexpected: Kristoffer Polaha on Baze's Evolution
We're winding down the season of Life Unexpected, and boy, have we seen some changes in our favorite characters! Cautious Cate has opened her heart, damaged Lux is letting people in, and good-time-guy Baze is starting -- or at least trying to start -- to grow up.
Kristoffer Polaha tells us what it's like to play a character who goes from Peter Pan to to semi-responsible dad, theorizes on what damage Baze was dealing with, and tells us why you'd usually see this kind of show on HBO. Check it out!
It's funny how sometimes Life Unexpected is a little... expected. Most of us knew that the Baze-Abby relationship was doomed, that Cate would freak out about something and that Ryan would be the voice of reason. But that doesn't make the drama juice any less entertaining to take in. So let's whip out our curly straws and start drinking, shall we?
Cate and Ryan
The on-again-off-again fiancees are back to their old comfort levels, which means the wedding is back on. Cate asks Lux to be her maid of honor, but then -- with perfectly awkward timing -- Cate gets a call from Abby asking about the wedding. Abby takes up residence as maid of honor without invitation, much like she's been doing elsewhere in Portland, but more on that later.
It’s about time that Lux started showing her age. After all, she can’t be the representative adult on Life Unexpected forever. After Cate couldn’t come through for her again, the two were back where they started before the winter formal.
This only led to more drama with Lux’s social worker, which threatened the Little Family That Could with becoming the Little Family That Definitely Can’t, but more on that later.
Meanwhile, things are getting more complicated with Baze and Abby, while it seems that Bug will be back in the picture for quite a while.
Plus, it seems Ryan isn’t done with the Cassidy family…
Clear your schedules: Season finale dates released
"Wait, we haven't gotten picked up for another season yet?"
Want to know just how long the drama will be rocking Melrose Place? How many more episodes until Navid's big confession? How much more dreckitude will ensue before we have a new top model? We've got all the dates here.
Last night's episode of Life Unexpected made us relive yet another painful high school experience. At least someone admitted that quasi-obligatory rites of passage usually aren't all they're cracked up to be - even if you do get a new dress and quarterback arm candy.
The adults are starting to get it a little bit more, though Baze's foul-ups with Lux were mortifying.
For a little added twist, Bug is back, once again creating drama and more heartbreak for Lux. We tend to agree with Baze, who posited "how much can you miss a guy with a web on his neck?" But no judgment yet; we'll have to wait and see if Bug is back with a new perspective or is up to his old shenanigans.
Read more about sex talks, sexual rejection and all sorts of other reasons why high school sucks after the jump.
Well, this week on Life Unexpected was more of Cate paying dearly for her past mistakes and making us feel sorry. Not for her, just sorry for having to listen to her moan about it.
At least one adult on the show is growing up; Ryan greatly redeemed himself this week for the machismo-fest that dominated the last episode. How Cate could screw things up with such a bang-up guy is beyond us (By the way, Ryan, our commenting lines are open if you ever want to reach out for a friendly drink).
And poor Lux is left with only clueless Baze to comfort her after Tasha's move. And Baze's idiot mistakes know no bounds this episode...
On Life Unexpected this week everything comes crashing down on Cate's head. We really just wanted to give her a hug by the end - while at the same time feeling like she only got what she deserved.
No hugs for her in the show, though. Just ice cream and wine by herself while Lux and Baze have another father-daughter heart-to-heart chat. Sorry Cate. That's what you get for lying. More after the jump.
Did Cate get what she deserved?
Yes - Her lies were that big of a deal.
No - Ryan was being unreasonable. They were broken up!
Maybe - It's hard to tell. Everyone was being overly emotional this week.
Other - Tell us in the comments!
The folks on Life Unexpected got an object lesson in truth-telling this week -- and it didn't work out so well for Lux. Of course, NOT telling the truth will inevitably come back to bite you in the butt, so we're guessing Cate and Baze's problems are far from over...
But what's the real truth? Take our true-or-false quiz and tell us what YOU think:
True or False: Cate and Baze still have a thing for each other
On the true side:Cate seems to talk a LOT about Baze on air, and Baze hasn't been bed-hopping as much since he bedded Cate. There's a certain protest-too-much vibe we get from them, and, this being television, we can't imagine two gorgeous people will keep their hands off each other for too long.
On the false side: Cate really is smitten with Ryan, and Baze really is a bit self-involved for Cate. Actually, Cate really is a bit self-involved for both Base AND Ryan, but Ryan, at least, knows how to handle her.
Our verdict: We buy Cate's explanation: Seeing Baze puts her back in high school emotionally, and so having the quarterback fall for her is flattering. When she's being rational, she knows they're no good for each other. We're calling this one false -- as long as they stay away from each other in moments of weakness (or drunkenness.)
We've quickly become smitten with Life Unexpected, so we were thrilled to catch up with creator Liz Tigelaar and ask her about the genesis of the show. Find out what inspired the pilot, what Liz herself wanted from a parent (hint: red power suits were involved...), and what we can expect from the rest of the season.
What's your take on Liz's teasers? Talk about it in the comments!
Dad's fun! An overgrown manchild! Mom is an overbearing boring neurotic former party beast. Apparently churros don't compete with window shopping for handbags. And Lux is called foster freak at school. Hey wait I know! Let's have a party! Dad can host, Mom can prove she's not boring, and the kids at school will think I'm awesome.
John Huuuuuuuuuuuughes, we miss you.
Now, we did totally love that Lux called out Miss I Feel Objectified by pointing out that she has the word JUICY spread across her backside.
