Melrose Place: Things Are Heating Up -- Trust Us On This

There are all kinds of trust issues going on in Melrose Place these days. Jonah and Riley are hiding things, David and Ella can't seem to get their act together enough to create a decent alibi for the night of Syd’s death... and that's just the beginning.

One good kiss deserves another
We'll file this one in the "what were you thinking?" file. After Jonah learns about the kiss between Riley and Auggie, he meets Kendra, the development executive, for cocktails. They kiss too, but Jonah tells her that he's engaged. The next day Riley offers to help Jonah work a wedding. And he keeps his secret buried until he decides to blow it out between the wedding and the reception. Nice. I'm sure the bride and groom appreciated that. Riley thinks that she solves the problem by breaking off her friendship with Auggie. When she asks Jonah to not see Kendra he refuses -- this is the only person in Hollywood who "gets his vision."

Sydney picked up David at his mom's grave
We've got to hand it to Syd, she sure knows how and where to pick 'em. She found David mourning his mom in the graveyard and picked him up then and there. We already know that their relationship was a messy one. But it turns out that David blacked out the night of Syd's death and thinks he could have been the one who killed her. In flashbacks we see that David woke up that night in Syd's bed with a bloody knife in his hand. He quickly buried it at a construction site but for some reason decides to go dig it up... and it's gone. A worker found it and turned it in to the police.

Melrose Place: Violet and Auggie Will Ride Into the Dreaded LA Sunset

It's being reported that there's been a massive shake-up in the cast at Melrose Place already and it's not even November sweeps yet!

According to The Insider Violet and Auggie will exit the storyline come January as several new characters, including one Amanda (AKA Heather Locklear) will be introduced...or, re-introduced, as the case may be.

The MP Powers That Be are claiming that the "Who Killed Sydney?" storyline will wrap in December and then the show will take on a lighter, more fun vibe. Producers say that Simpson-Wentz always knew that being written off the show was a possibility. Still...we love the crazy. We'll miss that for sure.

And speaking of missing...can we please have a moment of silence? We're absolutely shocked that the MP scribes can even consider writing off the hottest guy on the show! But apparently, Auggie is simply too dark.

Why do you think about Ashlee and Colin leaving the show? Do you think it's a mistake? Will you miss them? Tell us here!

Melrose Place: Jo Returns to MP and Breaks Up the Happy Couple

Jo Reynolds is back on Melrose Place and she's the photo journalist (aka fashion photographer) for Riley's big shoot. But Jo needs hot and sexy, not inhibited. So she tells Riley to keep the jeans and lose the top. Naturally, the school teacher isn't thrilled with the costume change.

What we loved
We got to see a softer side of Ella
When Riley freaks about taking off her shirt Ella convinces her that she can do it. In her own twisted sort of way Ella tells Riley that she thinks that she's beautiful and people can't help but fall madly in love with her. It's a rare tender moment for the junior publicist. When Riley finally comes out, sans the top, Jo taunts her model in an attempt to bring out some raw emotion. Jo even asks Riley if she isn't too young to get married. Ella sticks up for her neighbor but Riley still walks off set. We pegged Riley for a lot of things, but quitter wasn't one of them.

What we didn't love
David is a fast healer
David is completely healed from his beatdown and willing to loan Lauren $20,000, no interest, in order to pay her tuition. And how does she thank him? She shows up outside the house he's robbing in Beverly Hills (in broad daylight!) and spills his loot all over the driveway. Apparently sleeping with people who have money is okay but stealing from people who have money is not. Lauren tells David that she doesn't want his stolen money, but she won't turn him in as long as he never steals again.

There's more -- read on!

Melrose Place: Money, Success, Revenge -- Nothing Comes Easy in HelLA

For some reason when Auggie leaves Melrose Place to surf in Cabo for a few days, he asks Violet to watch his place. She rolls all over his bed, sniffs his clothes and does her creepy thing around his apartment. Then she goes through his stuff and finds a note from Sydney. In the note Syd tells Auggie how miserable her ex-husband is making her life. This, of course, gets the girl without a hobby a very big idea.

The happy couple is broke
Ella gets Jonah another gig, this time with Anton, a creative genius designer. But somehow, despite all of the work Ella is throwing his way, Jonah is broke. In a stroke of luck, Anton spots Riley and decides that he wants her as the face of his new campaign. Ella hates the idea, but a client has the last word. Riley hates the idea too as the only people she's comfortable standing up in front of are six-year-olds. Not only is it every girls' dream but it means 10 grand for five days of work. When Riley puts her foot down and says no means no, Ella tells her that she's just being selfish.

When Jonah's rent check bounces he tries to sell his ex3 camera (that the dummy still needs for work!) and then has to admit that he has no money. Next thing you know, Riley shows up at the WPK offices and takes Anton’s gig -- thereby saving Ella's ass. And let's face it -- Riley’s looked very good in Anton's jeans...and no one looks good in white jeans!

Melrose Place: Happy Freaking Birthday Ella Simms

It's Ella's birthday on Melrose Place and to celebrate we get a fabulous flashback eppy -- giving us insight into the Junior Publicist's past ... and her shoe collection. The shoes do rock but we have to wonder...does that girl ever wear anything comfy?

Syd makes Ella a superstar
Through Ella's flashbacks we learn that Syd befriended the poor, clueless girl from Denver, taught her a sense of style and gave her a "much needed" makeover. She's hardly Tyra Banks, because we think Ella looked pretty cute even before the transformation. But after Ella got tired of being Syd's indentured servant, she started blowing off her pal -- and no one blows off the Syd. So Sydney started making Ella's life hell. It's Operation Destroy a Life and nobody does it better than Sydney.

Lauren is one busy hooker
Wendi Madison, Lauren's new "Madame," promises to keep her safe...and send a lot of work her way. But if she misses one date she's out. When Lauren agrees to go shopping with her dearest friend Riley to pick out her bridal gown, she's quickly sidetracked by a "date."

Lauren is the luckiest hooker ever. We find it hard to believe that the guys she meets up with actually have to pay for sex. Where are the dorks and the freaks? These guys are stone foxes. So Lauren misses her shopping spree to get paid for sex and Riley is peeved (of course, the oh-so innocent bride-to-be has no idea that her pal thinks she's Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman"). She was going to ask her to be her maid of honor. Lauren promises to be a better BFF and the best maid of honor ever.

There's more after the break -- read on!

Melrose Place: What’s a Little Blackmail Amongst Friends?

Jane’s back at 4616 Melrose Place, and she may be fluffy and sweet on the outside but she's developed a cranky mean center we never really saw in the '90s. She gets right down to the blackmailing, telling Ella that Syd forwarded her all of those awful, threatening emails Syd had sent. Jane will do her best to keep them away from the police if Ella will get Abby Douglas to walk the red carpet in one of her dresses. Jane is ready for a comeback to the fashion world. And she'll use anyone she can to claw her way back in.

We've got a runner
When a couple of police detectives show up at MP to talk to Violet, she asks them to let her get dressed. While they wait she slips out the bathroom window. Oh, Crazy Violet -- apparently she's "afraid" of cops. She shows up at Jane's shop, announces that she is family and that she needs her help. Jane's kind to her face and then calls the authorities.

There's more after the jump!

Melrose Place: Ella vs. Riley!

We know there are all sorts of delicious conflicts brewing on Melrose Place -- and one of the ones we're waiting for with baited breath is Ella vs. Riley! It's obvious that Ella is pining for Riley's man, so we asked the two actresses behind those characters what we can expect.

First Katie Cassidy talks about why Ella is the way she is around Jonah, what it's like to play the big bad bitch, and why Ella might be guilty of Sydney's murder:

Then, Jessica Lucas tells us what we can expect from her relationship with Jonah (hint: it wouldn't be Melrose Place if things went smoothly!) and whether we can expect Riley to put the smackdown on Ella. Plus, she teases that Riley might not be a teacher for long! Take a look:

What's your take on the clips? Do you want to see an Ella/Riley cage match over Jonah? Which of these ladies do you think Jonah should end up with? Talk about it in the comments!

Melrose Place: These People Have Serious Issues

Things continue to heat week by week on Melrose Place. This week we were blissfully happy to see Michael Mancini get so much camera time. He's so deliciously evil, we could eat him with a spoon. And the dirt continues to come out on the rest of the tenants as well. Riley isn't the best fiancé we've ever seen, Auggie is a mystery wrapped in an enigma and dipped in crazy sauce, and Violet continues to get more and more psycho... um, "quirky."

Don't mess with the Doctor
As if stealing million-dollar art from the Mancini manor wasn't enough of an outlet for Daddy Issues, David vows to pin Sydney's murder on Michael...and he'll get him for helping Syd fake her death all those years ago while he's at it. This is all after he swiped his dad's keycard from the hospital and managed to tap into daddy's computer remotely, which reminds us -- who wants Michael Mancini to be their cardiac surgeon? Uh...not us.

But who, exactly, does David think he's dealing with here? Michael is the master manipulator and most talented, unabashed liar in the greater LA area (and that's saying something!). We have a feeling that guilty or not, Michael will eat David alive.

There's lots more after the break, so read on!

Melrose Place: Amanda Woodward Returns...From the Dead?

The Melrose Place news we've been hankerin' for finally came down officially today. Heather Locklear will reprise her MP role as the scheming, hottie Amanda Woodward on the new show. She'll join the newbies in her debut appearance on Tuesday, November 17.

Familiar faces on the Melrose Place Set
So far original cast members like Thomas Calabro, Laura Leighton, Josie Bissett and Daphne Zuniga have all announced their return. But according to Us Weekly it took seeing the pilot of MP2009 to get Locklear to sign on. The magazine is reporting that the star "...was surprised at how much she liked it." Well...yeah! Clearly, fans from the old show have joined new fans, making it one of the hottest new series on TV right now.

Dead Chick Walking
The only possible problem that we see with the return is that Amanda faked her death when the series ended in 1999. So it's going to take some crafty maneuvering by the MP scribes -- and we're not going to lie, we can't wait to see what they come up with! (Fortunately, they've had plenty of practice bringing stars back from the dead -- after all, Sydney rose from the grave, too!) We're bummed to hear that Locklear's real-life love Jack Wagner has no plans to return to the show as Peter, the very character who ran off with "dead" Amanda in the series finale. But we're hoping he will change his mind. Anything can happen -- when Locklear first joined the show back in the day she was credited as a guest star and that credit never changed.

The Powers That Be over at the C-Dub are keeping mum about exactly what Locklear's role will be, but if the first two eppies give us any indication, it's bound to be hot. What (and who?) do you think Amanda will be doing when she returns to MP? Tell us here!

Melrose Place Podcast: "Nightingale"

Listen Now

This week on Melrose Place, we discover that Ella is made of awesome, that Lauren knows how to get her bitch on, and that Sydney has a heart.. well, sometimes. We were impressed by the layers they gave Syd in this episode -- but even more impressed by Violet finally letting her crazy come out to play. The clothing? Not so impressed by that. What's the the Princess Leia hookerwear, Ella?

Melrose Place: Murder Thy Neighbor

We're just two weeks into the season so we're still trying to figure out the crazy cast of characters on Melrose Place. But as far as we can tell they're all (with the exception of Riley and Jonah, who gave us our biggest aw-shucks moment when Riley made breakfast in bed for Jonah with a bowl-full of all green clovers cereal AND the plan to play hooky all day) a bunch of lying, cheating, murdering freaks. And that's just the way we like it.

Biggest WTF? moment
They're just NOW deciding to install a camera in the courtyard? After what has happened there we would have figured there would have been a camera installed a decade ago! But, apparently all of the residents are concerned for their safety after Syd's murder so they have Jonah install a camera. Can't wait to see what shows up on that thing.

Our take on the crazy characters

Lauren is a big hooker
Deny it all you want but a fact is a fact. She owes 30,000 smackaroos and $5,000 is not gonna cut it. Toby was so satisfied with his "arrangement" with Lauren that he refers her to his buddy, Rick. Rick is a "great guy" who is interested in some of the same goodness that Toby got and while Lauren is repulsed at first, $5000
bucks is a lot of money to pass up. It’s all good until the couple runs into Ella and David at a party. Ouch! The jig is up! But she plays it off like a "pro." Which she is.

Read on after the jump!

Melrose Place Podcast: Series Premiere

Listen Now

Melrose Place returned to the small screen with a splash -- and a body in a pool. Mia, Lindsey and I take on the premiere -- and we pretty much like what we see. We speculate about who's got motive, why Sydney had to die, and why even the cops seem to be so darn attractive in this town. Check it out!

Melrose Place: RIP Sydney

How can anyone even think about swimming in the pool at 4616 Melrose Place? Our favorite night time soap from the '90s is back and we were treated to a bloody body floating in the pool before the first commercial even aired. Top that, eh? Unfortunately, it was Sydney's bod that was face down and then carted off in a body bag. Guess we'll have to enjoy our favorite character from the old-school show through flashbacks for the rest of this season.

The beauty is that just about everyone in the building (and even some ex-residents) had a reason to off Syd. She was blackmailing David, she was evicting Ella, Michael was taking a break from being a "happily married man" with Syd and she was threatening to tell his wife. Frankly, we're surprised she lived this long.

And though it will surely be awhile before we find out who killed her, it was fun to watch Syd's memorial service, which ended up being a celebration for Riley and Jonah who for some crazy reason think they can live at the art deco apartment building on Melrose Place and still get married and live happily ever after. Though we loved those two as a couple just about as much as we loved the liberal use of the word douchebag...quite a bit, actually.

We're still trying to figure out most of the MP residents. We thought new resident, Violet, who not only discovered Syd in the pool but snuck off with her photo after the memorial service, was more than a little creepy. Auggie, who appeared to be Sydney's biggest fan, was in an alley burning bloody clothing at the end of the ep. It's crazy that Lauren can't afford tuition for med school but manages to somehow find the funds for the painfully massive silicone lips. The seemingly evil Ella provided a solid, though untrue, alibi for David. According to Ella, it'll give the rest of the MP'ers something to tweet about. David is possibly the most intriguing. He's clearly picked up where his father, Michael Mancini, left off in the original series.

Entertainment Weekly recently gave Melrose Place 2009 a solid B grade but we think they were slightly off the mark. EW said that "…it remains to be seen whether the new Melrose Place will become as giddily addictive as its predecessor." What the…? We’re already hooked! Now if only we can convince the writers to have Sydney start haunting the pool. What? It worked for Brooke (aka Kristin Davis) back in the '90s!

We knew that Melrose Place would be an absolutely fab show but we had no idea it would be as smoking hot as eppy number one has proven it to be. There are so many delicious, naughty characters, we simply can’t decide which one is going to be our favorite. Which character stood out to you? Who will you love to love and who will you love to hate?

Killer Quotes:

"I love love! I just hate monogamy." Ella
"Karma sucks. Stab enough people in the back and eventually you’ll get a knife of your own." Ella
"If it wasn't for me you'd still be wearing Juicy sweat suits, French tips and a bad dye job." Sydney to Ella
"I admit that I kind of freaked out when I found out that Syd came after me to get back at you. But when she told me how much better I was, it made it all worth it." David to his father, Michael

Casting News: Melrose nabs Step Up girl, GG gets Gina

Lucky, lucky girl. First Jenna Dewan snags drool-worthy Channing Tatum (appearing in the recently-released summer blockbuster G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) for a walk down the aisle (the Step Up costars got hitched last month and honeymooned in Bali -- according to US Weekly, tattoos and all) and now the dancer-turned-actress has landed a multi-episode spot on Melrose Place, according to EW’s Michael Ausiello.

E! Online’s WWK crew got confirmation from executive producer Todd Slavkin that Dewan will appear in at least two episodes as Kendra Wilson, a young Paramount movie exec who has set her sites on aspiring filmmaker Jonah Miller (Michael Rady). Todd adds that her character is an "ivy league graduate, wickedly sexy and wickedly smart."

Catch the premiere of Melrose Place on Sept. 8 at 9/8c.

In other casting news, you may know her as Jasmine on “Angel”, Zoe on “Firefly”, Julia Milliken on “24”, Anna Espinosa on “Alias”, or, heck, even as Mrs. Laurence Fishburne… All in all, her face should be pretty familiar, and soon you’ll know and love Gina Torres as Vanessa’s mom on Gossip Girl, reports TV Guide.com. Currently scheduled for two episodes, Torres is expected to reprise her role as Gabriela Adams -- a warm, outgoing free spirit who has an opinion or two where Vanessa is concerned -- throughout the series.

Speaking of GG, People has spoilers galore on the new season: Blair’s a fish out of water in her new school, but she’ll have plenty of friends downtown to keep her company; Serena will heat things up with Carter; Dan will be romancing Olivia (guest star Hilary Duff); and Jenny begins to exercise her power as Queen Bee.

Gossip Girl kicks off its third season on Sept. 14 at 9/8c.

Melrose Place: "Still the most scandalous address in West Hollywood"

You say Melrose, we start salivating for scandal. The actors and producers of the show are happy to encourage this -- and gave us plenty of scoop when they met the press in Pasadena. Here's what we can expect when the reboot hits the air in September:

Murder, My Lovely

  • The show start off with a bang -- and a death. But mere mortality won't keep the dead character from the screen!
  • The murder story -- and the flashbacks that come from it -- was inspired by co-executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer's love for classic film noir, particularly the movie "Sunset Boulevard."
  • The Whodunnit aspect will last of several episodes, but the murder won't be milked out over an entire season.

Welcome back, Melrose

  • Expect original cast members to stop by -- if the story is right. Laura Leighton's Sydney and Thomas Calabro's Dr. Michael Mancini show up form episode one. They're both as scheming and backstabbing as we remember.
  • Other former cast members on the books -- Josie Bissett's Jane Mancini and Daphne Zuniga's Jo Reynolds. And the producers ran into Grant Show (Jake Hanson) at the CBS/CW/Showtime party the night before, so "stuff's brewing," Darren said.
  • What uber-vixen Amanda Woodward? "The door is always open for Heather Locklear," Darren says. "We're huge fans and we have a great way for her to come on the show."
  • Former castmembers who do return will feel right at home, Laura said. The set has been refinished, but "everyone stepping onto the courtyard set has feeling of stepping back in time," she said.

New blood

  • The original series won plaudits for having an openly gay character. This version has "trisexual" Ella -- "she'll try anything," jokes Darren -- and a gay character will be joining the show soon.
  • Katie Cassidy -- late of Supernatural -- plays Ella, and even though she plays the experienced vixen on the show, she admits she's never seen the original version. Her parents wouldn't let her when it was first on, and after she got the part, she decided she didn't want to influence her performance by watching other actresses' take on the show. But she says she's got hte DVD in her queue -- if only because reporters keep asking her whether she's seen the show!
  • Ashley Simpson-Wentz plays Violet, the new kid in town. "It's fun to play the innocent side -- but to know that the really innocent girl probably not so innocent!"
  • Stephanie Jacobsen is loved her previous role as a tough chick on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but she's looking forward to this role. This character "is not getting beaten up as much, is wearing more makeup and has slightly high heels."

What's your take on the show? Will you be watching? Which former cast member would you most like to see? Talk about it in the comments!

Jo Reynolds will re-visit her old digs, confirms E Online!’s Kristin Dos Santos. Original cast member Daphne Zuniga (most recently seen gracing The CW's screens as Brooke's bitchtastic mother, Victoria, on One Tree Hill)has agreed to appear on the new Melrose Place alongside fellow alums Laura Leighton (Sydney), Thomas Calabro (Michael) and Josie Bissett (Jane). We can already see the drama brewing!

Speaking of Sydney, teases that two of the twists in store center around her, including one we may have heard about and one we haven’t… hm… do tell!

As for guest stars, Ausiello also dishes that you can expect to see Taylor Cole in episode two, playing David’s ex-girlfriend. Taryn Manning (Sons of Anarchy) will show up in episode three as a singer -- no stretch for the real-life warbler, whose band’s name is BoomKAT.

Mark Your Calendars: The CW Premiere Dates Are Here!

So many cliffhangers rounded out this past season: What is Dan and Serena's half brother up to? What -- or who -- did Annie hit? How the heck are Sam and Dean going to defeat Lucifer? Why did the-man-who-will-be-Super say "Clark Kent is dead?" And that's just the start of it! Well, now we know when we can expect answers: The CW has announced its fall premiere dates. Start counting the days now!

It all starts on Tuesday, Sept. 8 with the season premiere of 90210 and the series premiere of Melrose Place. Wednesday, Sept. 9 brings the two-hour season premiere of America's Next Top Model: Shorty Edition. Oh, the drama! We can't wait.

Winchesterites, you can breath again on Sept. 10. That's when Supernatural returns to the small screen, and when we start to figure out how (or if!) the boys can avert Armageddon. But before we get to them, we get introduced to Damon, Stefan and Elena as The Vampire Diaries makes its debut. Should be a spooky and satisfying night!

The Monday-night lineup returns on Sept. 14, with one slight change: One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl are changing places. Now OTH gets the first spot, and GG rounds out the night. The Beautiful Life makes its debut on Wednesday, Sept. 16, after ANTM.

Finally, Smallville swoops back onto our screens on Friday, Sept. 25. Why the wait? Your guess is as good as ours.
