Entertainment Weekly Party: Jason Chats with Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Jeffrey Dean Morgan may not get a whole lotta camera time on Supernatural these days but his voice is back and we caught up with him on the red carpet of Entertainment Weekly's Upfronts party.

Happy Birthday, Jeffrey Dean Morgan!

Happy birthday, Jeffrey Dean Morgan! One of our favorite CW men celebrates his birthday on April 22 -- we're talking about Jeffrey Dean Morgan, best known to CW fans at the delectable patriarch of the demon-hunting Winchester clan on Supernatural. Happy 42nd birthday, Jeffrey!

JDM has been having one heck of a run lately. Not only did he embody John Winchester, a character you either love or love to hate, but he's been showing up in all sorts of TV guest spots and movie roles. He seems to specialize in playing dead or soon-to-be-dead guys -- in addition to dear departed Papa Winchester, he was the doomed Denny on Grey's Anatomy and the dead husband on Weeds. That last show is where he met Mary Louise Parker, and the two dated -- and were engaged -- for a while. Alas, that relationship has ended. We're sorry for JDM's broken heart, but we're glad he's back on the market!

Our beloved Mr. Morgan is really making a splash on the big screen. He's starring opposite Academy Award and Golden Globe winners in romantic comedies like "P.S. I Love You" and "The Accidental Husband"; playing gritty, morally ambiguous men of action in dramas like "Days of Wrath" and "All Good Things;" and taking part in one of the most hotly anticipated geek-bait movies of next year, the sure-to-be-stunning "Watchmen." Finally, all of Hollywood seems to be recognizing JDM's talent!

But what we find most impressive about the man is how he remains so genuine and affable even with all the attention. He loves talking about his dog, grilling up a good steak, hanging out with his friends and yes, bonding with his TV sons. Every interview we've ever seen with Jeffrey just makes us love him more.

So happy birthday, Jeffrey. We hope you have a great day, and we would love it if there was ever time in your crowded schedule to stop by Supernatural again!

Leave your birthday wishes for JDM here in the comments!

New Movie for Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Jeffrey Dean MorganNow we can complete the Supernatural casting trifecta -- Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who will always be Papa Winchester to us here at the CW Source, has just been cast to star opposite Kirsten Dunst and Ryan Gosling in "All Good Things."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, JDM will play a down-on-his-luck detective who gets hired by Gosling's character, the heir to a real estate fortune, to find out what happened to his lost love from the wrong side of the tracks (Dunst). We can totally see Jeffrey as a gritty, hard-boiled detective type, and we're glad he's taking a break form the romantic comedies he's been in lately!

Of course, it's interesting that JDM is getting such a range of roles while his TV sons seem stuck in horror-flick mode. (Yes, we know Jensen's got an indy movie and Jared is in a feel-good Christmas flick, but neither of those have seen wide release yet.) It could be just a function of age -- there tend to be a gazillion horror flicks that need hot young bodies, while JDM looks a little too seasoned to go creeping around the woods looking for chainsaw killers. Or it could be because JDM paid his horror-movie dues with Dead and Breakfast. (Seriously).

We're hoping this new casting news will distract Jeffrey from his latest breakup with on-again, off-again fiancee Mary Louise Parker. Jeffrey, give us a call if you need a shoulder to cry on!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan: A Man And His Dog

John Winchester may be a divisive figure, but everyone loves Jeffrey Dean Morgan. That’s why we were thrilled to see the actor who portrays Papa Winchester in this New York Post article. As a bonus, he’s talking about his dog, a rescued Rottweiler mix named Bisou who JDM raised from a two-day-old puppy. He even bottle-fed her!

“Bisou's become quite accustomed to being on sets," Morgan tells the NYP pets reporter. “The first thing she figures out is the location of the food truck. If she ever goes missing, she turns up there, doing her ‘I haven't eaten in 100 years' thing."

You can see JDM in the current chick-flick P.S. I Love You, and you can catch both the man and his pup in the upcoming film “The Accidental Husband," co-starring Uma Thurman. “We were shooting here in New York, and I had Bisou off-leash," Morgan says. “She came running up behind me like a crazy dog." Director Griffin Dunne was charmed by the doggy drama and kept it in!

Our only complaint: Whenever JDM gets some press, they mention his stint on Grey’s Anatomy and maybe his time on Weeds (if they’re talking about his on-again relationship with Mary Louise Parker), but they never give his Supernatural credit. Come on, journalists – throw our show a bone!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Cast in Legendary Comic Project

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Our favorite demon-hunting dad, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, has joined the cast of Watchmen, causing comics geeks everywhere to do a little happy dance. The movie is based on the seminal comic by Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, among many, many other ground-breaking projects) and Dave Gibbons. This isn’t your standard men-in-tights comic. Check out this list of creds spotlighted in E!Online: “[Watchmen was] the only graphic novel to ever win the Hugo Award, a top honor in the world of science fiction and fantasy, and the only work of its kind to appear on Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels since 1923.” Yes, folks, it’s that good.

Jeffrey is taking a part that has some similarities with John Winchester: He’ll play The Comedian, a tough-talking (check), ass-kicking (check), cigar-chomping (never saw John do that, but we can imagine it) Vietnam Vet (check) who fights crime (substitute demons) and cracks wise.

We love the comic, we love Jeffrey, and we loved the last movie director Zack Snyder tackled, The 300, which was also based on a fantastic comic. Basically, we can’t wait!

And the even better news: Watchmen is filming in Vancouver. Maybe, just maybe, if we wish really hard, Jeffrey will be able to take a day off from filming the big-screen pic to show up on the small screen to say hi to his boys. Oh please, oh please!

The CW at Comic Con

We reported earlier that the folks form Supernatural would be appearing at Comic Con, the geek nirvana that descends on San Diego at the end of July. Now that the full schedule is out, we've learned that some more CW favorites will be showing up.

Supernatural: Catch Jared, Jensen, Eric Kripke, co-executive producer Ben Edlund and co-executive producer Peter Johnson on Saturday. The boys of Supernatural will present a highlight reel, answer questions, and discuss the upcoming third season. Sounds awesome!

Smallville: Also on Saturday, you can talk to Smallville masterminds Al Gough and Miles Millar and check out an all-new screening.

Reaper: On Friday, catch the pilot episode of the new series, introduced by new cast member Missy Peregrym (Heroes). Kevin Smith will also be hanging out at Comic Con (of course), but there's no word on whether he'll be in this screening.

The Spectacular Spider-Man: Not all of the CW's superheroes come on in primetime. Spidey will be appearing on Kids' WB! on the CW in early 2008. On Friday, get an early look at the art direction and exciting within the webslinger's newest animated adventures.

All the dates and times are subject to change, so check the schedule carefully closer to the date. We're seriously bummed we won't be in San Diego this year, but we'd love to hear form any of you who go!

Newsflash: Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Single

Jeffrey Dean Morgan
While we here at The CW Source try to never take joy from other people's sorrows, we couldn't help ourselves when we heard this bit of news this morning. From imdb.com:

"Weeds stars Mary-Louise Parker and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have split up after a brief romance. Parker and Morgan, who play husband and wife on the hit show, started dating late last year. However, Morgan admits his relationship with his co-star is over. He says, 'I am a single guy. I look for somebody with a sense of humor, someone that laughs at my bad jokes, and wants to have fun in life. That's kind of the key.' "

How nice of Jeffrey to share with us what he's looking for in a leading lady. The line starts behind us!

Jeffrey Dean Morgan: A Dad On- and Offscreen

Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Do you need another reason to love Supernatural's Jeffrey Dean Morgan? We don't, but we have one anyway. JDM tells People mag that he loves being a dad to gal pal Mary-Louise Parker's son, William.

"He's wonderful," replied Morgan. "He's great. We spend a lot of time reading, actually. And I just got back from the park [with him] before we came here." (Source)

Hey Grey's: Hands Off Our Men!

What is it with the folks at Grey’s Anatomy? They can’t seem to keep their hands off the men of The CW. First, they get Supernatural’s John Winchester to check into Seattle Grace, forcing a Jeffrey Dean Morgan face-off in the time slot. Then, they kill John -- sorry, we meant “Denny” -- off in a ridiculous fashion. (The way he was killed off on Supernatural, on the other hand, made perfect sense.)

Now, they’re trolling Neptune for fresh meat.

Yep, it seems the potential Grey’s Anatomy spin-off has tempted Piz away from the potential embrace of Veronica Mars. Chris Lowell is joining Kate Walsh, Taye Diggs, Tim Daly and Paul Adelstein in the potential spinoff.

We can’t fault the folks behind that medical soap for their taste in men – we love Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Chris Lowell to bits. But seriously, do they have to go shopping for actors in our favorite CW shows? Let us keep our men!

Supernatural Star Watch: JDM

Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Supernatural fans everywhere have declared their allegiances to either Jared or Jensen - or both. But what about Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays beloved father John Winchester? There aren't enough fans in the world to cool down the flames in our hearts for this fiiiine man. Sigh.

We want to see more of him, even though it seems like he's already everywhere these days! We ached when his Denny died in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy. He's also been featured in the critically acclaimed series Weeds, The O.C., CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and JAG. To read about how he's handling his new hot commodity status, check out this item on Zap2it.com.

Do you love JDM as much as we do? Do you hope John survives the car crash? Or is it J&J all the way?
