Happy 30th Birthday, Jensen Ackles!

A CW Source favorite is reaching a milestone. Jensen Ackles, who plays the inimitable Dean Winchester on Supernatural, is turning the big 3-0 on Saturday, March 1. Happy birthday, Jensen!

Jensen Ackles

We know that birthdays that end in 0 can seem a little intimidating -- and we're sure prank-loving whippersnapper Jared Padalecki will have fun rubbing in Jensen's supposedly aged status. But take heart, Jensen: The old-timers here at CW Source Central say that 30 was their favorite birthday so far, and we'll love you no matter how old you get.

In fact, we're going to count the ways we love Jensen, and we want you, the CW Source faithful, to help! We're putting together a list of the top 30 reasons Jensen rocks. We'll start it off with our reasons, and we want you to add your own. Then we'll pick the top reasons and put together a video for the site.

So check out the beginnings of our list, and then add your own reason in the comments! Plus, feel free to wish our boy a happy 30th birthday!

30 reasons Jensen rocks

1. The Acting
Sure, Jensen has plenty of surface charms to recommend him (and trust us, we'll get to those...) but what really makes him exceptional is his blazing talent. We'd watch him in anything (and yes, we've seen Devour). He can convey more with a change of expression, a dimming of the eyes, a shift in the tone of his voice, than other actors his age can get across with pages and pages of script. We have no idea why Jensen isn't a major movie star -- he's got more talent than half the guys his age on the big screen today.

CW Source Exclusive: Jensen Ackles, Part One

This is turning out to be quite a Thursday at the Source. We got the day off to a great start with Allison Mack, and now it's time for part one of our interview with Jensen Ackles! We've had lots of Jared over the past week, but now it's Jensen's turn. In this chat with Jason C. from Vancouver, Jensen talks Dean's to-do list, what attracted him to the role, and more. Without further ado... here's Jensen!

The Reviews Are In: Bravo, Jensen!

Jensen's a hit!We told you earlier about how Jensen Ackles was making his professional stage debut in “A Few Good Men” in Dallas. Well, the first reviews are in, and it sounds like the play – and Jensen himself – is a hit!

Here’s what the Dallas Morning News raves about Jensen’s performance: “[I]t's Mr. Ackles who really sets off the fireworks in this A Few Good Men. He's slick and funny, but human underneath. His stage technique is nigh onto perfect – and this is a guy who's been working steadily on large and small screens for a decade."

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is less effusive, but they still praise Jensen’s performance: “Ackles started off nervously but quickly settled in and handled the military and law jargon (and a few comic lines) like a pro, with minor bobbles."

Alas, we’re far, far from Texas, so we’re not going to be able to see the play. (Curses!) But we’d love to hear from anyone who is lucky enough to get a ticket. If you’ve seen the show, tell us what you think in the comments!

Alterna-Jensen Coming to a Theater Near You

Jensen in his natural ghost-hunting habitatWe've been talking so much about Jared Padalecki's casting news -- you know, how he's going to play artist Thomas Kinkade in three pictures -- that we almost forgot about Jensen Ackles' upcoming indie flick, 10 Inch Hero. But we were reminded of it today, and boy, are we looking forward to it.

In case you don't know, 10 Inch Hero is about the lives and loves of a bunch of snarky characters who work in a Santa Cruz sandwich shop. The sign on the door says "Help Wanted: Normal People Need Not Apply."
Sounds promising.

The 10 Inch Hero blog posted its first picture of Jensen in full makeup as Priestly, an irreverent, horny joker with a very specific style. And if you're having trouble envisioning Jared as a sensitive painter, how does Jensen as a blue-mohawked punk with eyeliner and black-painted fingernails strike you? That's something we can't imagine Dean ever putting on, but damn, Jensen pulls it off. Suddenly, we're pondering breaking out the Manic Panic and going for a hair color that does not occur in nature.

What do you think of the picture, the movie description, and Jensen's role? Is this something you're likely to see?

Jensen on Kimmel: Consider Us Ackleytes

Big thanks to Heather, who clued us in on Jensen Ackles’ appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. We have no idea how we missed that. Jimmy asks if there’s a collective name for Jensen fans, and Jensen denied all knowledge. We’ve got one – you can consider us Ackleytes to the joy of Jensen.

Check out the video to see Jensen’s reaction to his screaming fans and get answers to burning questions like does he, in fact, curl his eyelashes. Bliss!

Happy Birthday, Jensen!

Break out the birthday cake: Jensen Ackles turns 29 today. Happy birthday, Jensen! We hope you get the day off from filming Supernatural so you can do something fun. In fact, come on by the office – we've got some Cowboys season tickets, a new Stratocaster, and some chocolate cake for you right here. They're just over there, under the large box trap… awning! We meant awning. Hey, where are you going? We just wanted to talk!

Dammit, he must have talked to Jared. We had a similar setup at Chicago's Fangoria convention (except with San Antonio Spurs tickets, Guitar Hero, and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream), but he cancelled at the last minute, ostensibly because he was stuck in Vancouver filming. Sorry about that, Chicago-based fans – we suspect his security detail uncovered our plans.

Feel free to send Jensen your birthday wishes in the comments!

Jensen Dissed!

The Dark Horizons Web site reports that Supernatural's Jensen Ackles may star in the fourth Resident Evil movie. Good news indeed, unless you take offense to the article's claim that he's the "not as good looking but still smoking hot" brother on the show. Come on! Do we really need to have another debate on who's better looking again? From what we've seen, Jensen fans and Jared fans have co-existed quite peacefully. No need to stir things up, right?

We're excited about the possibility of seeing Jensen on the big screen!

Supernatural, We Still Love You!

Recently, we noticed some unrest on the comments section of our site. Namely, some of you have been wondering why we're giving Supernatural the shaft. One of our more creative posters even sent us a pic to show just how lacking our Supernatural coverage has been.

Hey, we love Supernatural, too. But unlike OTH, whose stars seem to grace the tabloids every other week, and Gilmore Girls, which has a slew of spoilers in constant circulation, Supernatural and its stars are laying low this summer.

Yes, the droolworthy Jensen Ackles is starring in Ten Inch Hero with OTH's Danneel Harris (they'll play sandwich artists looking for love).

Yes, Jensen is still gorgeous (need proof? Here's another pic).

But beyond that, we just haven't heard much on the Supernatural front. Do you have Supernatural scoop we don't know about? Or just want to gush about the stars and speculate about next season? Post away, commenters... and rest assured that as soon as we DO hear more Supernatural news, we'll post it ASAP.
