Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Today Is The Day (Part 2)
We're all a mess about who to side with and what the future holds after this week's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Sure enough, the writers spun the show around on us, leaving us sympathetic to Jesse despite her plan that ended in Riley's death, mistakeningly by her own hands rather than Cameron's.
Jeese's flashforwards reveal that her future is grim and frail. After the box delivery for John is picked up, Dietz -- another shipmate aboard the USS Jimmy Carter -- questions John's motives. A scuffle ensues, disagreements peak, and the box is opened. Liquid shimmer moves in the box. Another member of the crew approaches the box, but the liquid takes shape and stabs the woman before taking her form -- it's a T-1000! Dietz incites a riot, Jesse on the defensive, and she is beaten by several crewmembers. Queeg, the reprogrammed Terminator, kills Dietz and halts the riot. But is it really for Jesse or for the mission?
In reality, Queeg's actions were for the mission, one that's being hidden from Jesse. She questions Queeg and tries to get him to give up control, but his mission overrides regular procedural commands. Jesse turns on him and shoots him through the head. But what has she done? Shortly afterwards, the T-1000 reappears. She tells Jesse to inform John that the answer is "no." Is this because of Jesse's actions, or had the T-1000 already decided?

The question to that answer, Jesse learns when she is questioned by Cameron after an emergency rendezvous, is "Will you join us?" "I'm sorry for your loss," Cameron adds eerily. Jesse had been pregnant, but lost the baby at some point during the turmoil of the mission.
All the while, we find out that John has indeed pieced together the lies Jesse created. He had been following Riley ever since the trip in Mexico where he realized she knew him as John Connor. He confronts Jesse but lets her go... Only for her to meet Derek, where her future is not so clear. There is a disconnect between them, as if she is from a different thread of future reality than him. Derek seems ready to kill her and she runs, but we are left wondering if Derek shot her from a distance. Even John doesn't know.
Is the T-1000 in Jesse's future actually Catherine Weaver? It seems uncertain, but back in the past, Weaver is preparing a backup plan to cover up murdering Ellison in case Ellison turns on her. John Henry discovers this by his usual casual but overly informative searches of the company. He feels that Ellison is his friend and he questions Weaver's actions. Human life is sacred, he reminds her.
Indeed, every life is sacred. We see that as Sarah destroys the remaining endoskeletons, Cameron succeeds at holding a bird delicately without killing it, and John breaks down in tears over Riley's death -- and the death of any remaining hope at being anything but the hardened John Connor of the future.
This week's insight from Terminators: Eyes are the windows to our souls.
This week's lesson for Terminators: It's okay to explain the mission to angry confused humans with weapons.
