Lie To Me, Won't You Please?
This week on Lie To Me, the ghosts of episodes past come back to haunt us. Perhaps that's why we liked it so much. The unifying theme was all about loyalty and the place of lies and trust in relationships. There were a couple of nice twists, some people got the serious smackdown for being jerks, and there were even terrorist -- or suspected terrorist. How could we not love it?
So let's see if we can count up all the references to previous episodes and see how they get wrapped up in this episode:
1) Lightman gets caught snooping around as he's trying to figure out if Foster's husband is cheating on her.
Oh, but there was a case this week. It involved a black kid being shot by two white police officers. The wackiness was that the two cops were telling the same story, but one of them was lying and the other one wasn't. It stumped Lightman until the FBI pulled him aside and revealed that one of the cops was an undercover FBI agent investigating his partner because they had credible information that he's a terrorist working with a sleeper cell to do some serious damage. So the FBI asks Lightman nicely to back the *bleep* off the case, and Foster tries to convince him to let the nice FBI men do their jobs.
But our hero Dr. Lightman can never just trust authority figures, no! So he goes on investigating and discovers that the undercover spy is actually a double-agent and the supposed sleeper terrorist is a nobody. It's all very spooky. (See what we did there? See? Huh?)
You know, we're glad they tied up some of the loose ends left dangling earlier this year. We hope they make a habit of it. We want to see more about the wacky relationship with his ex(?)-wife.
1) Lightman gets caught snooping around as he's trying to figure out if Foster's husband is cheating on her.
2) Torres (aka The New Girl) has a hunk of an FBI agent in her bed -- the one she met at the wedding. As it turns out? Um, nope. He's fallen off the wagon and the woman Lightman kept seeing him with is his sponsor.
3) Loker (aka TMI-Boy) is faced with giving depositions in regarding his Big Lie -- you know, the one where we lost all respect for him? Yeah, that one. Lightman announces that the group is being sued for damages because they bungled the deal that would have gotten all the investors their money back. So everyone has to give depositions to the group's lawyer so they can prepare a defense. The Fed turns out to be a really good guy who wants to protect her, though he gives her some not-so-great advice for how to be successful in The Lightman Group. Fortunately, she ignores his advice and covers for Loker.
Speaking of which, Lightman was trying to screw with the Dr. Foster when he was snooping around about her husband, and she gave him a serious smackdown at the end of the show. Serious. As in... back off, buddy, or I'll screw your life so much you won't know which way is Sunday.Loker teaches Torres how to lie to a lawyer and gives her a bottle of muscle-relaxants so she can continue to cover for his Big Lie. He also gives her a big speech about how she has to do it "For the company" and not just for him. But -- But! Lightman has, of course, known the real situation all along. There's no real lawsuit, he just wanted to test Torres to see if she could keep a secret under pressure. (Note to kids watching at home: don't lie to your own lawyer. That's a really dumb thing to do.)
So when Loker finally grows a conscience and confesses to Lightman, he gets a serious demotion -- kicked back to unpaid intern. Or he can find himself a new job. We tried to tell him he'd get fired! You don't screw with the Dr. Foster.
