Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Adam Raised a Cain

Welcome to the episode where the soul of artificial intelligence is questioned, Sarah's decisions are tested, and John Connor must become a man, just as much as John Henry must consider his role in this world. This week's episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles had us on edge and gasping in shock as the twists unfolded. We'll lay it all out for you, but we'd really recommend you watch this episode and tell us how you reacted.

scc_24-group-silver_1719_djrV3.jpgWe already know something is going to happen to Savannah, but the first surprise is what. While at school, John Henry is talking to Savannah over chat. Her teacher calls her out for not paying enough attention. After hearing about John Henry, she has a little talk with Catherine Weaver. Weaver isn't so concerned about Savannah, she's more worried about Savannah telling anyone else about John Henry. "A predator," the teacher warns. But John Henry is far from that. In fact, when Savannah is back at home doing homework, John Henry notices a breach of security -- a Terminator! John Henry guides Savannah to safety on her headset in a calm, emotionless yet still concerned way... But eventually, she's out of range and John Henry looks on... John Connor swoops her up just as the Terminator appears!

In the gunfire on the way out of Weaver's home, Derek is shot by the Terminator. Just like that, Derek is dead with one bullet to the head. No dramatic goodbyes, no heavy breathing, no long "nooooooo!" from John. Just a sudden realization in passing, and we're off again as the situation gets tenser and tenser.

What follows is a bit of back and forth between Ellis, John Henry and Catherine Weaver, all of whom have their own particular motives behind trying to get Savannah back. Weaver's only real concern is John Henry's security. After Ellis betrays Weaver (in a way) by having John Henry keep information about Savannah's whereabouts with Sarah Connor a secret (he's hoping to negotiate the situation quietly on the sidelines), Weaver sets up her own measure of security that the Connor conflict will be resolved...

Now our heroes know what's been going on at ZeiraCorp, by way of Savannah's innocent but revealing conversations with John Connor. They know where the Terminator body went, they know that Ellis took it, and yet they hold out for negotiation. Cameron, of course, is out for Ellis, but none of this matters when Sarah makes the decision to exchange Savannah for a promise of a private meeting with Weaver. Although it's easy to blame Ellis for what happens next, the truth of it is that Weaver was having him watched because of his untrustworthiness.

After making a covert exchange at a movie theater, Ellis walks away with Savannah while John, Cameron and Sarah head in different directions. Sarah becomes nervous as a man glances at her from the concession stand she passes by. A Terminator? No! Cops! Sarah walks out surrounded, and although she puts up a good fight, her efforts are futile against so many.

Ellis feels for Sarah, but there's not much he can do in public. John Connor is alone, in the truest sense, angry and embittered. We end on unmarked graves -- Derek being buried among them. And Savannah is back safe, teaching John Henry how to sing, in a delicate balance where John Henry sees her life as sacred and Weaver sees her as a possible sacrifice in the name of protecting who (or rather what) she feels is God.
