Lie to Me Finale

112_sacrifice_192.jpg On the season finale of Lie To Me, there were explosions, tears, terrorists and twists. What more could we want? Oh yeah, a love triangle of course. Well, now we've got one of those, too. The Lightman group saves the DC area from a series of terrorist bombs, but mostly dismantles itself in the process. Gotta love these season ending episodes.

Vote in our poll now and read the full details after the jump.

So the Lightman Group tackles the nightmare monster hidden behind every invocation of the word "terrorist." Terrorist bombs blow up a bus and a shopping mall in the DC area. At first, they seem to be suicide bombs, carried by teenage Muslim men who attended the same mosque. And there are terrorist videos saying there will be more attacks and soon.

Dr. Lightman is brought in by the FBI (remember, they're on retainer now) to figure out what's going on and try to stop the string of bombings. He continues his crusade to stop the FBI from using harsh interrogation tactics, and plays good cop to the one man the FBI is questioning about the first bombing. The interogatee continues to say he just doesn't understand how their prime suspect in the bombing could be suicidal. There were absolutely no signs ahead of time.

Lightman's daughter also spends the day at the office, since her mother has to go in to work at the state department. Lightman seems to get cranky about his ex-wife dumping their daughter on him instead of just saying he's worried about his ex-wife's safety. We wonder what she sees in him. (We see a sexy accent and a rugged, geeky handsomeness, but we're not saying this is a good foundation for a long-term relationship.)

Apparently the sex we saw a few episodes ago wasn't just a one-night fling for them -- at least that's what the daughter implies at one point. She also says she likes her father better when he's "with Gillian" -- wha? Is there a history there we don't know about?

Well, funny she should mention that, as we're also seeing Gillian Foster doing a lot of crying in her office. Near the end of the episode, Lightman gets her to confess that she and her husband are separating, and she's moving out. He's very supportive, if you get our drift. In fact, we've seen more honest affection between him and Gillian than between him and his ex-wife. Oh, Cal, you poor, screwed up genius.

But let's not forget the bombings. The first was on a bus, the second was at a mall - and it just so happens that it's a mall Torres' boyfriend was assigned to scope out right after the first bomb. He was caught in the explosion and has a serious head wound. Lightman knew he was potentially missing, but didn't tell Torres until her significant other had been found (in a broken elevator) and transported to a hospital. Torres is sick of being lied to by her boss and yells at him about it. He seems unfazed by her pain and gives her a lecture on how her "gift" (for spotting liars) has been refined and improved by working with him and it "doesn't belong to just you anymore." Oh my. Appealing to a woman's sense of public duty while her boyfriend is on the brink of death. That Lightman, he's a charmer.

Fortunately, he also figures out that someone else (the cousin of the first suspect, in fact) is planting bombs on unsuspecting, innocent teenagers. There aren't any suicide bombers, just a killer controling the detonation on these hidden, walking bombs so they go off at just the right time. Yeah, he's fairly evil. Good thing Batman Lightman is here to save us. He identifies the real culprit by laying out the facts to the father of the first (dead) suspect and uncle of the real killer. This poor interogatee tries to hide his realization that his nephew is the terrorist, but Lightman sees right through it. Yay! Day saved!

But all is not well. Just look at this mess. Torres may not be showing up to work ever again, while TMI-Boy has been bumped back to intern and can't be trusted with big cases. Gillian's relationship with her addict husband is falling apart so she's an emotional wreck, and Lightman himself is embroiled in a romantic entanglement with his own ex-wife.

This lie-detecting business doesn't seem very profitable on the personal front, but at least we'll get another season to watch more shocking reveals, explosions, and, of course, interpersonal chaos.
