SYTYCD Recap: We're Down to The Top 10 - er, 12!

To make it into the circle of top 10 dancers on So You Think You Can Dance was once the most coveted position to be in (unless, of course, you were the ultimate champion of the show). Last night's elimination round should have whittled the competition down to the ten dancers from this season who would be taking their show on the road in the upcoming months. Instead, it was announced that the two excused dancers would still be joining the tour. How upset would you be if you were dancers 13 and 14?

Last night began with a great opening routine from NappyTabs to the tune of the White Stripes', "Seven Nation Army". It's always exciting to see what the choreographers can do with an entire group of people as opposed to one couple. Afterwards it was time to announce the dancers in the bottom three. Thankfully, Kayla and Kupono were safe. The dancers who had to dance for their lives were Caitlin & Jason, Melissa & Ade and Jeanine & Phillip. I was surprised to see Melissa and Ade in the bottom but was excited to see their solos for the first time.

Caitlin took to the floor first and didn't bring it very hard in her solo. I think she knew the end was near. Her partner Jason took to the floor sans shirt once again and seemed like he danced harder than we've seen him dance before.

Jeanine was up next and did a nice job, as per usual. She has that "quiet strength" the judges seem to talk about so often. Phillip did his usual brand of impressive flexible flowing movements. The thing is, he is great at what he does but once you've seen it a few times, you're ready for something more.

Finally, we got to see Melissa's solo, which I'm sure was impressive but I couldn't stop staring at her 8-pack abs. How does that even happen? Ade was the man of the night though. Wow, his solo was so incredible to watch, I almost want him to be in the bottom all the time just so I can see him dance alone. He is always great in the couple's routines, but the choreographers use his strength too often. I'd like to see some real dancing incorporated in his routines because he is much better than what they showcase.

While the judges deliberated, Kelly Rowland (former Destiny's Child member)  sang while her young Rod Stewart-looking DJ played behind her.

In the end, it would be (no surprise here) Caitlin and Phillip going home.

But, like I said, the two have been added to the touring lineup. What did you think of last night's episode? Did the right contestants go home? Now that they've been added to the tour, will you be more likely to try to see the show? Let us know in the comments!
