Bones -- "Harbingers in the Fountain"
Get our take on the 5th season premiere after the jump.
The good
- Sweets! For some reason, seeing the young doctor on screen just makes us smile.
- Booth's hesitant, scared, hopeful expressions every time he's about to tell Brennan how he really feels. After Angela gives him a kiss on the forehead in return for a nice compliment, Brennan asks if she should give him a kiss as well, he says, "yes!" and looks so hopefully and delighted, it's heartbreaking when she just smiles and walks away, thinking he's joking.
- Cyndi Lauper! You gotta love how Hollywood works. She sees Brennan sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" in an episode and wants to guest star on the show. Bam! Psychic Avalon Harmonia is born.
- The gang's all here (minus Zack, but we're trying not to be bitter). Favorite characters, relationships, work camaraderie, snappy lines and "King of the Lab!" made us happy the show was back all over again.
The not so good but we'll let it go this time
- Both Cam and Sweets cautioning Booth against telling Brennan he's in love with her. Traitors!
- Fine, we get the argument that if he's not 100% sure and changes his mind later, it'd do irreparable damage to Bones. And, ok, so maybe the coma is still having an effect on his feelings. But... but... let it happen already!
The bad
- Ok, now they're just messing with us. They've moved the will they/won't they conundrum up to "excruciating" on the tease scale. "I love you. ...you know, in a professional, 'atta girl' kind of way." The expressions on both of their faces say it all. Well done, Boreanaz and Deschanel. It's delicious enough to savor and painful enough to have us begging for a resolution.
Cyndi/Avalon tells it "all works out in the end". Ok, reassuring. In the meantime, we'll enjoy the gory and sometimes goofy crime solving and continue to pounce on any glimmer of romantic sparks.
And, since we can't resist a good line, we'll leave you with a quote from Brennan (after Avalon asks how she's feeling): "Well, they gave me pain medication, so I feel as I imagine people of average intelligence feel all the time."
Are you happy they're finally edging closer to a Booth/Brennan romantic relationship or was every fiber of your being screaming "noooo!"? Speak up in the comments!
Comments
After having been SO disappointed with last season's finale (a fantasy-style ep should NOT ever be a season finale), I was actually relieved and happy with this season's premiere.
And I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out.
In some ways I wish that the season premiere had been last season's finale (with the SF having been the one before that).
