Fringe - so many revelations!

204_momdef_0192.jpg
Woah, there's just so much woah in this episode of Fringe. We mean.... woah. There was one major revelation after another. It may take us all week to untangle everything they had to say. How special are Olivia's powers? Is Dr. Bell a good guy or a bad guy? And then there are the things they only hinted at -- what was that about Peter as a baby? How many shapeshifters are already here? What does it take to move between universes? Our minds are just reeling.

Where do we even begin with this episode? Someone is stealing cryogenicly frozen heads. Yikes. And yuck. So Olivia's team discovers these bad guys are the same ones who tried to kill Olivia a few weeks ago (okay, six weeks ago in the Fringe universe) the soldiers from another universe who can change shape to look like other people.

Walter and Peter hunted down the woman from Walter's old video -- the one Walter experimented on with a bunch of drugs -- who could identify those who are not from around here. Her name is Rebecca, and there are hints of something romantic between them, but it's vaguely weird, and never talked about directly. She tries to help out by taking the drugs again, says some vague weird things about Peter, but isn't much help otherwise -- partly because in the course of the experiment Olivia starts remembering her time with William Bell in the other universe.

Her memory is all very strange -- and unfolds as she's having a seizure -- so we're not sure how much of it we should take literally. He warns about the frozen head plot and hints at dangerous things in the future. More questions, as usual.

Another one of the plots at the heart of this episode was the bodysnatching of Charlie. We learned a lot about the "conversion device" the soldiers from the other universe use to change shape. Apparently they hold (and broadcast) the image of the last person it stole. So if you happen to find one, you can figure out who it was that was most recently snatched. This is how the team finds out Charlie is now a bad guy.

But before they realized, he saw his photo on the computer in Walter's lab -- Astrid was the only other one in the lab at the time. Is she okay? Did he do something to her to make sure she didn't tip off Olivia too soon? We love Astrid! We're going to worry for her safety all week! Stupid bodysnatching bad guys.

Oh, we also learned (from Dr. Bell) that these guys are apparently part-machine. Walter also figured this out. He called them hybrids and explained they use mercury to maintain their shape. So yeah it looks like we're looking at a mashup of a robot appocalypse and a zombie take-over. Awesome. Just throw in some ninjas and pirates -- geek heaven!

We suspect this whole thing was just a setup so someone (Olivia's boss) could deliver this line with a straight face: "Why are shapeshifting soldiers from another universe stealing frozen heads?" Awesome.

204_momdef_0437.jpgNot awesome is that Olivia has to be the one to shoot zombie/bodysnatched Charlie in the head. She's completely traumatized by it (and the beating he was dishing out before she got her gun back -- thanks random stranger, for giving your life to distract the bad guy for a minute so the girl being beat up could fight back).

204_momdef_0359.jpgInterestingly enough, our batch of photos from this episode that the promo folks sent over included this totally awesome image of traumatized Olivia sitting on the pavement with Peter showing up to help her with the body of Charlie in the background. We did not see this in the episode. Did we just miss it? We think we've stumbled on a great moment from a deleted scene. Are we wrong? Comments, people! Help us out here! Did you see this scene in the show this week? Or was from an episode only shown in an alternate universe?

Wendy, I don't specifically recall that scene but now I'm going to have to watch it online to make sure!

As for the mention of Peter as a baby, let's not forget that this Peter actually came from the other universe, provided to Walter by Baldy when Peter died of a disease (I forget what and when, maybe around age 10?).
