SYTYCD: The Great And Powerful Public Has Spoken

Wednesday's So You Think You Can Dance was the first live results show of the season and it had some real surprises.  The opening cast-wide number was fun in a sort of Scorpion King meets Road Warrior way.  What's amazing to us was given how the costumes obscured most of the dancer's identities unless the viewer really concentrated, Russell (yes, he's still our fave) and Ryan really popped on camera.

We were lulled into a sense of security by the Judge's comments Tuesday night, two of whom thought that Nathan and Mollee were the couple who needed to be most worried.  So much pish posh!   Apparently Nathan's adoring fans kept the couple safe. He certainly garnered his share of squealing from the audience.

Find out who was cut after the jump!

In the first two groupings of three couples that Cat called on stage, we were not surprised at who was picked to dance for their lives.  We agreed with the voting results. What we were not prepared for was for Karen and Kevin to be the remaining couple to have to dance for their lives.  We thought their performance on Tuesday was fun and well executed.  We think they have fantastic chemistry, look great together, and like they had both been well-trained in the hustle for years.

The six dancers in danger were Ryan, Peter, Kevin, Ellenore, Pauline, and Karen and the judges were not impressed with the final offerings for the most part.  In the end, the judges chose Peter and Pauline to leave the competition.  The cut-away shot to Pauline's parents broke our hearts a little.  We hope they took her out for ice cream after the show and gave her lots of hugs.

So we've lost all three tap dancers between last week's and this week's eliminations, which is really a shame.  With no tap for the last five seasons and then three tap dancers this season, we really thought this was the year that tap would break through.  We need to work on our crystal ball skills, apparently.

The highlight of the evening was really the beautiful performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater dancers.  It was moving and spectacular.

What did you think of this week's eliminations?  Tell us in the comments!

I expected Peter to go home once they nominated the bottom 3 couples but after Pauline's solo I thought she was safe. It was miles better than Ellenore's solo, where she tried to be too quirky and too different and it just looked silly. I have not agreed with the judges one bit this season at all. And I think if the viewers had voted from the beginning then there would be a different top 14 right now. They keep talking about how amazing season 6 is and how its the best yet but honestly all of last nights performances were nothing that was too amazing. there was a couple good ones but nothing that made me say wow...I am not impressed with this season which is sad because i have been impressed with every other season and it is one of my favorite shows.
