SYTYCD - It's hard to say goodbye

Alas, contemporary is just not our thing! It's just not! Sigh. All we could do was stare quizzically at our screen during the entire performance above on So You Think You Can Dance. Sure, they're supposed to be statues in a museum, but then... what? Weird. But the judges and audience seemed to love it, so yay.

And then it was two contemporary dancers vs. a hip hop guy for the male solos. Once again, we just didn't get it. We enjoyed Kevin's performance. It was impressive. (Though none of them were as impressive as in their auditions.) But apparently the two contemporary dancers impressed the judges more. Grrr.

On the other hand, everyone agreed the Bollywood exhibition dancers were fabulous. Photos and discussion after the jump.

Look at that! That we get. It's fabulous. We love the energy, enthusiasm and synchronicity. And then there are the beautiful costumes. Yaaay. There is nothing not to love about this style.

The other guest performance was a new song by Australian guitarist Orianthi.

orianthi091116_0944.jpgOur inner middle-schoolers liked it. Our grown-up selves were once again a bit quizzical about the whole thing. However, we refuse to admit that we're too old for this stuff, so yay Orianthi.

It's possible, however, that we're still cranky about losing Kevin tonight. We lost Kevin tonight! We loved watching him perform. He grew so much and gave us some truly magical performances. Plus, look at that smile!

eliminatedKevinChanningIMG_9780_1.jpgAnd then there was Channing. Oh Channing. We're just not sure what to think. We loved you in the auditions. We saw such star potential. But then after being named to the Top 20, she sort of went vanilla. On this one, we agree with the judges. She turned out to be a great technician, but her star power was just not shining through.

On the other hand, we thought Mollee did great when she danced for her life and the judges agreed with us. They said they saw her do things they had never seen before, and that's saying something.

These elimination nights are so tough. Here's to next week and the top 12. We can't wait. (And we bet Cat Deeley's feet can't wait to get out of those bunny slippers and into some real shoes.)
