24: Nuclear Shower
Renee's desperate speech to Vladimir while at gunpoint has Jack thinking Renee is unstable, prompting him to tell Hastings she needs to be taken off the case. This makes sense because as we know after seven days, Jack is the one who should be determining when someone is unstable or not. While Renee does seem a little off, we don't think she's unstable. However, we do think she has another motive. Remember what we learned a couple of hours ago, Vladimir supposedly tried to rape her before, and as we see this hour he would try again and appear to succeed.
Now we're definitely not a fan of Vladimir, but we do appreciate his cajones for thinking he was going to get five million dollars from a guy, kill him and then make off with the cash. Like Meier (Jack cleverly disguised in glasses -- no really, just glasses) wasn't going to have any back up and that nobody would come looking for the guy who made off with their five mil! Vlad would find out he was in a little deeper than he thought when most of his crew was picked off, leaving just Lugo.
So, we officially hate the Dana/Jenny and Kevin Wade story arc. At this point Dana has stolen info, created a key card and has set up a plan to rob a police evidence lockup. She does all this while at CTU and then meets Wade outside CTU's back door, in front of cameras, with security and creepy co-worker Arlo looking on. We tried to move past the fact that she's working for a counter-terrorism unit under a new identity and they so far have no idea. And that she did time in prison from a murder case. And that she is acting weird, keeps coming and going, is slipping at her job and hasn't punched Arlo. Who knew we'd be looking for more from Freddie, Prinze, Jr.!
Back at the U.N., support for the peace agreement brokered by Presidents Taylor and Hassan is slipping as Hassan cracks down on opposition members in his country. We're also seeing a less stable Hassan who is losing the ability to trust anyone. He has just ordered the arrest of a close member of his administration despite a plea from his top aid not to. It seems it is very difficult to change the mind of a man once he's been double-crossed by his own brother. If a peace deal is to come, it is going to take a lot of convincing from Taylor.
The storyline that has kept us guessing involves main Russian bad guy Sergei and his two sons. Hour Six showed us just how far Sergei is willing to go. After eldest son Josef -- he of the and his amazing disappearing-reappearing accent -- disobeyed him by seeking treatment for younger brother Oleg, Sergei sends some goons to bring his sons back. Sergei then says so long to nuke-infected son Oleg with two bullets to the chest and then delivers a beat-down to eldest son Josef. We'd say at this point Josef won't be disobeying daddy any more.
Will Arlo finally step up and alert somebody to Dana/Jenny's strange behavior? How will Josef handle the death of his brother at the hands of his father? Has the plan for peace come to an end? Tick...tick...tick...
Some of this week's notable quotes:
Jack telling Hastings he can make Laitanan talk if given the chance:
Jack: We can arrest Laitanan, if he knows how to find the rods, I will make him talk.
Hastings: If you're saying what I think you are, we don't do that anymore.
Renee to Vladimir after he starts making advances on her:
Renee: Look, I didn't come here for this.
Vladimir: Really, all the people you could've gone to, you knocked on my door.
Renee: Because you're connected.
Vladimir: That's the only reason?
Renee: Yes.
Vladimir: I don't believe you.
Renee: That's your problem.
Vladimir: You should watch your tongue, you might lose it someday.
Chloe to Arlo - Chloe's very small part in Hour Six provides one of the best lines ever:
Arlo: You notice anything weird about Dana?
Chloe: Ms. Perfect?
Arlo: Seems distracted, always making excuses to leave.
Chloe: Maybe she's avoiding you.
Arlo: What?
Chloe: Well that's what I would do if someone were drooling over me all day. You're lucky she hasn't reported you to Human Resources.
Arlo: If you weren't so jealous you'd hear I was asking you a serious question.
Chloe: Oh yeah, I'm jealous. Please won't you stare at my ass as I walk away? (He does)
Sergei to son Josef after killing youngest son Oleg:
There are rules, Joseph. They are simple rules. They must never be broken. Never endanger the family, never. And never disobey an order from your father.
