Running red lights is not a scoff law...

Last night we were behind a drunk driver, and it reminded me how much responsibility each of us takes on every time we get behind the wheel. On top of that we saw three cars without their headlights on well after dark (maybe the drivers were too busy texting to turn on their lights.)

Driving in South Florida is always a little scary. But in the past few years it has become worse so I was happy to hear that Boynton has installed cameras at their major intersections. I hope Delray and Boca do too. Diverting funds from projects that aren't life and death could pay for the cameras.

And yes, I agree it is more big brother brought on because of a few people who refuse to behave responsibly. But in my opinion, that's better than having innocent people injured or killed in a car accident.

Maybe huge fines - and I mean huge - would help too. A fine of $1,000 or more would be a serious reminder to most people not to run a lred light. And the City could have police focus on catching serious offenses rather than minor infractions because they bring in revenue.

Or we can do nothing. After all, what are the chances that one of the scoffers will involve you or your family in a serious accident?

By the way, we did call the police with the license number, make of the car and location of the drunk driver.
