Carolina's Coal Fired Pizza & Pasta - it's a 10

I just couldn't wait to write about this great restaurant. Owner and chef Enrico Espositio opened Carolina's in April. The 100-year old historic cottage oozes with charm and the authentic, Italian food is very good.
Patrons can dine inside or outside in the front - or in the romantic backyard - my favorite. Portions are generous so they're large enough to split.
Maria Riccardi, Boynton Beach resident and owner of Salon Amici in Delray Beach and Gina Seebauer of North Palm Beach were having lunch the day I was there. Riccardi said, "I think it's the best food on the Avenue and it's authentic."
*Entrees $12.95 - $15.95 - fish, veal and chicken a little higher.
*Wine and beer.
*Ambiance galore.
*Casual and family friendly.
*Great place to take guests.
*Limited free parking in the back.
*Reservations suggested.
*Hours: Tues - Thurs., 11:30 - 10 p.m. Fri., Sat, & Sun., 11:30 - 11 p.m. Closed Mondays out of season.

How the City can save money...
On Saturday night I was downtown Delray.
We were walking back to our car and stopped to look at the parking garage in Pineapple Grove. It's huge so it's not like you can miss it.
We could not help but notice a very expensive looking plaque, black marble I think - similar to something you'd see in cemetery.
On the plaque were names of the mayor, city counsel members and county commissioners.
We couldn't help but notice they had forgotten a name...the taxpayers.
I've never seen anyone dedicate a parking garage to themselves before. Most people don't like them. They're expensive and notoriously unsafe.
The mayor says she wants suggestions on how to save money. My suggestion is don't build any more parking garages. Most of us prefer to park at meters or in parking lots.
And just think of all the money the City could save on plaques.

A fun new restaurant in Delray...opened in April of this year
For a fun evening, especially on a Wed. or a Sat. night when they have a kereokee DJ, try J.D. MaCaulays. There you'll find comfort food served Irish style - Shepard's Pie or Corned Beef & Cabbage. They also have the usual assortment of burgers, appetizers, salads and of course Guiness.
Since MaCaulay's opened, news of the fun place has been spreading by word-of-mouth. The kereokee DJ is Dan Kenken and he shows up about 7:30 p.m. He knows how to get the placed livened up and is a surprisingly good singer. Come with friends or kids and have a blast.

Powerball coming to South Florida
This January Florida will join the ranks of 29 other states plus Washington, D.C. and the Virgin Islands and sell Powerball tickets. All I can say is, it's about time.
For those of you unfamiliar with Powerball, it is very similar to Florida's lotto. Tickets cost $1 but because so many people play, the jackpots quickly become huge.
Players choose 5 numbers and one number for the powerball. This year alone mega jackpots have been $97 million, $180 million and $276 million. Just like lotto, all 6-numbers must match the computer's picks including the red powerball. Drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday evening.
Each time a winner is declared, the game is reset at $15 million.
Yes, I do know someone who won. A couple who dock their boat next my brother's in Illinois won $11 million about 10-years ago. They named their boat the Lucky 6.
For those of you who are so inclined - and I am and I buy 1 or 2 tickets a game - it'll be fun.
