Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah - turn up the volume

Just for fun - dinner in the sky

When a neighbor told me, she was having dinner in the sky, I didn't think she meant literally. Turns out, she did.

Watch the YouTube video taken at Coconut Creek to experience Dining in the Sky

On Dec. 5 and 6 at the Seminole Coconut Creek Casino in Coconut Creek, you could dine sumptuously while seated on a platform that is suspended 10-stories high in the air. My neighbor was able to go thanks to a friend who had won a sky dinner for two on a radio contest.

Before the crane lifted everyone into the air, patrons were strapped into cushy, leather chairs. Once everyone was settled and accustomed to their new surroundings, waiters served them a gourmet meal.

According to my neighbor, it was a hoot and something she would definitely do again - for free that is.

You may ask with all of the economic turmoil why I'm writing about a $500 per person extravaganza . Sometimes it's just kind of fun to be as unrealistic as pie in the sky - or in this case, dinner in the sky.

March 10, 2009 municipal elections - change or more of the same

Just when you thought all the elections were over - wrong.

On Tuesday, March 10, 2009 Delray Beach will hold municipal elections.

Delray Beach mayor, Rita Ellis, announced she will not seek re-election and 4 of the 5 City Commission seats have to be filled. Only Commissioner Fred Fetzer retains his seat this year.

The question is will the City get real change or more of the same?

I'm hoping for change.

I've not been impressed with a City government that is more concerned about keeping dogs off the beach and eliminating treehouses than our real problems.

To name a few:

Crime, businesses leaving Delray Beach (two of the bigger ones, Office Depot and Levenger moving next door to Boca instead of staying here - why - talk about loosing tax dollars,) too much development and cutting costs by cutting non-essentials City services, not the police and fire departments.

It's pretty much a thankless job, the hours are long and for sure the new City leaders will tick off at least part of the residents with their decisions.

I have confidence that are some sharp people out there who are up to the challenge. We'll soon find out.
