Bee aware - Africanized bees now thriving in South Florida

Bee aware. Look, listen and run. That advise comes from the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services

If you see a nest or hear buzzing, get the heck out of there - and fast. There's no way for most of us to recognize a relatively harmless Euoropean Honey Bee's nest from an Africanized bee (killer bees.)

Africanized bees fiercely protect their nests and are easily antagonized by lawn mowers, weed whips or anyone or any thing unfortunate enough to get too close to them. Humans and animals, including pets, are at risk.

Professionals need to be called in to remove nests as they move in swarms and an attack can be fatal.

The following is a youtube video that will show you how to avoid this increasing hazard.

Some very cool freebies - from teeth whiterners to software totorials

Considering what's going on with the market and the economy, I imagine like myself, the rest of you are spending as little as possible. I'm always on the lookout for freebies or close to it and here are a few I like:

To save huge on your grocery - some say as much as half - visit couponmom.com It is a great site.

Youtube has free tutorials for software such as Photoshop So if you've been waiting for extra cash to take a class to learn some new skills - no more excuses.

Want some free flowering trees for your yard? Charylne V. Schaub, editor of the Sun-Sentinel's Home & Garden tells how to receive five free gorgeous Crape myrtle trees ($10 shipping and handling.) Send your check to Five Crape-myrtles, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE 68410

Overwhelmed by dental costs? Okay, it's not free but costs way less than a private practice. The Hialeah Dental Clinic in Hialeah is staffed by University of Florida dental students and residents who are carefully watched by instructor dentists. Phone number is 305.694.5400.

Have you tried Dining Deals on Sun-Sentinel.com?

Dining Deals on Sun-Sentinel.com is a great way to go out for lunch or dinner without breaking the bank. You save 50 percent.

The names of participating restaurants offering the promotion -usually four -are published every Friday morning at 9 a.m. The eateries are located in South Florida.

Coupons can be purchased for $12.50 and used for $25 at the participating restaurants. Some sell $50 coupons for $25.

The number of coupons is limited - usually about 100. The best deals sell out right away so go to the site first thing on Friday mornings to see if there are coupons available at one of our favorite restaurants.

These aren't second rate restaurants hanging on to business by their fingernails...so check it out.

If you didn't know your age, how old would you be?

A friend who is much younger than me scolded me recently after being subjected to my complaints about an upcoming birthday. "The only restraints we have are the ones we put on ourselves," he reminded me very firmly.

That made me stop and think.

Today, as I glanced at the magazines in the grocery store, I saw another reminder - if you didn't know your age, how old would you be?

One more compelling argument to not worry about the calendar and enjoy life.

One of the restraints many of us place on ourselves is always waiting for the right time to do things...how often have you said, I'm too young or I'm too old to do that? Even when I've not said it, I've often thought it.

What it boils down to is we have as much freedom we allow ourselves. So this year, I am going to follow my heart and forget my age. I hope you join me.
