Elderhostel - a great way to travel
Elderhostel is the world's largest educational travel organization for
senior adults. It was founded in 1975 and, today, boasts over 4 million
participants in its programs. Elderhostel offers the opportunity to travel
to countries all over the world to learn about its people, culture, food,
architecture and just about anything the country has to offer.
Participants may log on to their web site or receive huge catalogs by
mail with offers of lectures, trips, excursions and transportation.
Over the past several years, my husband and I have enjoyed learning
about the cities of New Orleans and San Franscisco, through the
Elderhostel Signature City series. We have also traveled to New Mexico,
where we enjoyed bus excursions (with excellent motel accomodations)
to Taos, Sante Fe, and Alburquerque. Our meals were included and we
had excellent tour guides and instructors.
Each program falls under one of six activity levels, from limited physical ability
to being able to climb stairs and to walk long distances. Travel is often by bus,
train and sometimes boat.
