COWBRA - first night meeting Nov. 30th 7:00 PM

COBWRA TO HOLD FIRST NIGHT MEETING FOR YOUNG FAMILIES
TOPIC: OUR SCHOOLS

For the first time in its almost 30-year history, the Coalition of Boynton
West Residential Associations (COBWRA) will hold a meeting at night to attract
the younger demographic who work during the day. The meeting, featuring
Palm Beach County School Board member Frank Barbieri,
will be Monday, November 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the West Boynton
Beach library, 9451 Jog Rd.

Forty of COBWRA’s 88 member communities are ones where most people work
and many of these families have school-age children.

“While 200 people attend our regular Wednesday morning meetings, most
working people can’t make it,” said COBWRA President Ken Lassiter. “This is
the first in a series of meetings planned to serve them by addressing subjects
of special interest and to be held in the evening to accommodate work
schedules,” he added. The library will hold 80 attendees.

This meeting is free and open to the public, as well as COBWRA delegates
of all ages. For more information, call: 740-9835 or email
familymeeting@cobwra.org.

Directions: West Boynton Beach Library, 9451 Jog Road, between Boynton
Beach Blvd. and Gateway Blvd. on the west side of the street. Please bring
non-perishable food for a local soup kitchen.

COBWRA is a civic organization serving 88 neighborhoods, representing
100,000 people in unincorporated Palm Beach County west of the city of
Boynton Beach and north to Lantana Rd. The not for profit group was
established in 1981.

1952 to August 1953. SidFluss2.jpg
While on the front lines, his battalion lost half of their men, trekking the

the Brooklyn Navy Yard for guard duty and was discharged from there.

Today, Sid and his wife, Alice, live in the Coral Lakes Community of Boynton

Florida lifestyle.

Arnie Sarrow served as a fighter pilot in WWII. He enlisted as a private in 1942 and was accepted for flight training. He received his Silver Wings to fly single-seaters, as a fighter pilot. Flying a P 47 Thunderbolt, he completed 101 combat missions and sorties in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. arnieplane.jpg
Near the end of the war, when Germany had jets in the air, he encountered an
ME 262 jet in a dog fight. With missing parts, and smoke streaming, the German jet lost the battle to Sarrow. During the war, he was awarded the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Belgian Croix de Guere, and several ribbons

Flu shots - don't wait to get yours

Have you made an appointment for your flu shot, yet? I've already gotten
mine and I hope that it protects me from getting sick this winter. As a
substitute teacher, I am exposed to many students who often come to school
when they should be staying at home.
Playing cards in the Clubhouse card rooms or sitting in a packed
theater during a movie or show, it is hard to escape the coughing and
sneezing that exists in a closed environment. Imagine the germs deposited
on a deck of cards or Mah Jongg tiles, when someone sneezes into their
hand and continues playing!
It amazes me how many seniors do not get the flu shot. I understand
that some people have allergies or bad reactions to the injection, but my
doctor insists that is not the norm. According to Health Smart Magazine, fewer than 25% of immunized patients have some redness and/or slight swelling
at the site. Curtis Allen, of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
in Atlanta, says that shots are recommended for adults 50 and older. In
addition, if you have any chronic illness or if you are a caregiver, it is important
that you get the flu vaccine.
This year, there is an abundant supply of flu vaccine. I hope that if you're
reading this, you remember to get yours tomorrow. H1N1 virus immunization
is another topic for another day.
