New Scam: Hotel phone call to your room

This scam has been occurring to travelers recently and needs to be
brought to the attention of everyone who frequents hotels or motels.
Here is the scenario:
You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. When
checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for all the
charges for your room). You get to your room and unpack.
Someone calls the front desk and asks for (example) Room 312
(which happens to be your room). The phone rings in your room.
You answer and the person on the other end says the following:
'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came cross a problem
With your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit
Card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side
Of your charge card.'

Not thinking anything is strange, you might give this person your information,
since the call seems to come from the front desk. But actually, it
is a scam! You are actually receiving a call from outside the hotel/front desk.
They ask for a random room number. Then, ask you for credit card
information and address information. Sounding so professional that
you do think you are talking to the front desk.

If you ever encounter this problem on your vacation, tell the caller
that you will be down at the front desk to clear up any problems...
then, go to the front desk and ask if there was a problem. If there
was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone called
to scam you of your credit card information acting like a front desk
employee.

Don't be fooled by this new scam. Spread this information to your friends.

ICE your cellphone - in case of emergency

I. C. E. stands for In Case of Emergency. If you
own a cellphone, you should enter ICE numbers into its memory.
If you are ever incapacitated or if you have an accident, where you
cannot communicate, your cellphone can save your life.

Here's how it works:
Simply enter the word ICE 1 or ICE 2, ICE 3, etc. and list
the names and phone numbers of those you would like to be notified, as
separate listings.
The police are aware of ICE and have used it to find relatives of accident victims.
Take a moment and do it now. It may save your life!

National Do Not Call List - enter your phone #s, again!

I can't believe it has been 5 years since I blocked my cell phone # from
telemarketers. But, here it is, five years later, and my number seems to have
been discovered.
I have been receiving calls for products and services that I do NOT want!

Cell Phone Numbers are being called by computer generated lists and
telemarketing companies are pitching sales calls here, as well as our
home phones. Now, I am being called by political pollsters, too! They want
to know who I will be voting for in the next election. Why my cellphone,
because many Floridians have given up their land-lines and only have
cellphones as their sole telephone communication.

..... YOU CAN BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS, if you do not have unlimited
or roll-over banked calls.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:
888-382-1222..
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time..
It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone
number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON .. It takes about 20 seconds.

Computer "spam" and "hoaxes"- it's partically your fault!

Does your computer have a virus? Do you constantly delete spam? Is your
In-Box filled with e-mails from people or sites that are unknown to you?
Well, it could be YOUR fault! Here is some really good advice from SNOPES.

1) Any time you see an E-Mail that says forward this on to "10" of your friends, or sign this petition, or you'll get bad luck, good luck, or whatever, it almost always has an E-Mail tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and E-Mails of those folks you forward to. The host sender is getting a copy each time it gets forwarded and then is able to get lists of "active" E- Mails to use in SPAM E-Mails, or sell to other spammers.

2) Almost all E-Mails that ask you to add your name and forward on to others are similar to that mass letter years ago that asked people to send business cards to the little kid in Florida who wanted to break the Guinness Book of Records for the most cards.
This is a HOAX.

All it was, and all any of this type of E-Mail is, is a way to get names and "cookie" tracking information for telemarketers and spammers - - to validate active E-Mail accounts for their own profitable purposes.

You can do your friends and family members a GREAT favor (PLEASE) by sending this information to them; you will be providing a service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting thousands of spam E-Mails in the future!

If you have been sending out (FORWARDING) the above kinds of E-Mail, now you know why you get so much SPAM!

Do yourself a favor and STOP adding your name(s) to those types of listings regardless how inviting they might sound! You may think you are supporting a GREAT cause, but you are NOT in the long run. Instead, you w i ll be getting tons of junk mail later! Plus, we are helping the spammers get rich! Let's don't make it easy for them!

Also: E-Mail petitions are NOT acceptable to Congress or any other organization. To be acceptable, petitions must have a signed signature and full address of the person signing the petition.
For more information or to find out if someone has sent you a "Hoax" go to:

Roman shades and blinds - Huge recall by CPSC

Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall focuses on child safety:

The CPSC has issued updated recalls for several types of Roman shades and blinds.
The recall is for items sold at Wal-Mart, Pottery Barn, IKEA and Target.

Customers that have Roman or roll-up shades in their homes should contact the Window Covering Safety Council immediately at www.windowcoverings.org or by calling (800) 506-4636 anytime to receive a free repair kit to make the window coverings safe.

In the meantime, the CPSC is urging anyone with young children to remove any blinds or shades that have cords attached. They also advised parents not to place cribs, beds or other furniture close to windows because children can climb on the furniture and reach the cords.

Cordless window coverings are recommended for all homes where children live or visit.

In case of emergency - FHP wants your information

The Florida Highway Patrol is encouraging all drivers to use their computers to log in their emergency contact information. More than 700,000 Floridians have done this, so far.
However, there are over 18 million licensed drivers and ID card holders in our state who have not done this, yet.

So, if you hold a valid Florida driver's license or if you have a valid Florida ID card, PLEASE
go to your computer or go to a library and use a computer to enter your emergency contact information.

If you are ever involved in an automobile accident, or any other altercation, your information will be on file. Please understand that the information that you supply will be kept secure and is only used by law enforcement officials in case of emergency.
