Subject: animals vs children

Once again, the state of Florida has proven that the lives of animals
are more important than the lives of young children.
A father "forgets" his young child, who is strapped in a car seat, and
the child dies of exposure to the heat. The State's Attorney's Office
declares it a "tragic accident" and declines to prosecute.

Rewind to a few years ago. A young female was in an abusive
relationship. She feared for her life and safety. She escaped the
situation; she forgot her cats. They died. She was arrested, charged,
jailed, and placed on trial. She faced 20 years in prison. She lost her
teaching certificate.
What is wrong with this picture?
