BRING POSTERS TO PUT UP IN THE AREA -- anywhere she is seen, we need to make sure there are posters up, so we keep getting sightings of her.

Lois I have found a few fax numbers online but not as many as I hoped. I sent you an email, or shall I post them here? I feel like I am starting to waste time trying to do it this way and I am at work too. If anyone else has any ideas where to get fax numbers in Auburndale for businesses likely to cross paths with Vivi let me know.

I just have one question, why didn't the woman know which way she went, what was she looking at. Also who ever saw a stray Whippet, I can't understand when they say it fit Vivi's description, white with brown blotches, is it a WHIPPET or not? Why didn't she at least call her name, she had a phone number to contact someone you would think she would have stayed with the dog until someone came. I'm sorry but all these looks like Vivi, just call her name. I guess I am very dog savvy and expect people, all people, to be. I will keep the faith for all of you out there today. The key is to stay on foot and someone should really have a dog with them, it works 99% of the time. It does not have to be a tracking dog.

I haven't heard, regarding Tina and Rosa, but I'm hoping that's a good sign. That it's a verified sighting and they're staying and searching. Wasn't someone just out at Peck Park looking the other night? Darlene maybe? Terrie

I just talked to Darlene on her cell. She's out there with others driving around looking for Vivi. She said Bonnie called Newsday and Newsday is going to send people out there.

Because people don't know what a whippet is. They know the difference between a dog and a cat. Once my friend's very friendly 90 lb pit bull followed some hikers on a part of the Appalachian trail than ran near her house to the visitors center where they locked him up. She called and they said no we don't have a tan and white pit bull only a brown and white beagle. And you have guessed the rest of the story. Of course it was im. a beagle! (Of course this kept them from being afraid of him)

Iva, I've been suggesting that for a few days now and nobody has paid attention. I'm at work right now but I can take a Whippet and a Greyhound out over the weekend - hopefully she'll be home by then.

Terrie, I agree with you. I've gotten my hopes up so many times. This may sound silly to some of you, but I just now kneeled down and prayed to God that this is IT. Brian says he never get his hopes up because then when it's not her, he'd just be depressed. Just like all of us.

Maybe she simply lost sight of her and after she did, there was no way to tell what direction she was headed after she lost sight.

Also, I seem to remember, the instructions were not to try to catch or chase her. How far was the lady from who we hope is Vivi? Maybe she ws not close enough to grab her.

I am happy she called. There must have been a poster near her where she could immediately find the phone number.

Irene, I understand I'm in CT so I can't help in the search. It's tough for the family when they live across country and have other animals and jobs to tend to. New York, it's a hellava place to be lost in, animal or human. She's in my prayers and fingers are crossed. Lets just hope she happens upon a dog savvy person, someone she will gravitate to. I know I attract them all.

I don't normally have vivid dreams, but last night I had a lucid dream where the volunteers found Vivi. I gave her a pat on the head, started crying and hugged the volunteer. At that moment, I said that I wanted to make sure I wasn't dreaming and tested everything to make sure I wasn't dreaming. When I later woke up, I was SO depressed that I was, in fact, a dream. So maybe today is the day and this was a sign. Could the volunteers surround the park or is it too large. How bout the Mounted Auxiliary Unit as I mentioned last night? Good Luck. You guys are the best.

Shes still in Auburndale!. I posted flyers all around that park on Sunday afternoon. Its a satellite park adjacent to Kissena.Anybody know what time she was sited?

I contacted Beau at Animal Haven in Flushing. His Co-worker Joanne works with Bonnie and they had received word of the sighting. He is going out soon to look. He was searching this area a couple of days ago. Please stay put, VIVI!!

May I suggest that somebody ask the owner of the garage where Vivi had been to put some flour on the floor of the garage - she's still in the area and may go back to the place she found food and if she does she would leave footprints in the flour.

Please, I beg you, ask him to do this for Vivi's sake.

Irene, I so agree! That woman is great! I really hope Darlene, Tina, Bonnie, and Rosa do it. They really deserve a victory. And US SANITY!!!!

The strangest thing happen to me also last night. I turned around to my foster dog, who, coincidently, happens to be white with brindle patches, and called her Vivi. With that I said to myself, well I guess tomorrow is the day.
Bless you Vivi its time to walk up to the right person and make her day. Dear St. Francis keep her safe until that moment arrives.

Irene, I can't type either. Wish this site had spell check. Dyslexics need all the help they can get. But like you and many others, I can sure pray a lot and have hope. By profession I am an artist and have many conversations with the man up there while I am working.

You and all the others who have kept on top of this and keep us informed and thinking are wonderful humans.

I have to smile, here we are sending Vivi emails. When she is found, her family will have to sit her down and read them to her.

Someone should save the nice encouraging post for the family. They need to have our words which often are very poetic.

I have my browser open to this site and keep on checking it every half hour or more. Mostly more.

Way back I said she will be captured on a Wednesday. Gut feeling.

My fingers are crossed and my Italian Greyhound, Little Phyllis is right by me sitting with her long legs crossed. If anyone has an IG, they know what I am talking about. Those long elegant legs are crossed when they lie down. Like Whippets, they are elegant and beautiful creatures.

Thanks, Irene, you have just said out loud what all of us have been thinking. We are not cutting Jil down, we know she's upset, but geez, so are we. Look at all who have given time and money and effort. The least she could do is get on this sight and thank all of you.

This is Brian from Virginia - I got sick and haven't yet been able to go to NY ):
But Look at the map. The last sighting was right next to Kissena Golf Course and Flushing Cemetary. There is a direct path to both of these areas from the locaction of the last sighting. Those were my first two stops if I ever get up there. People need to WALK through these areas. The cemetary is more secluded for a dog, but the golf course has fresh water which she must be getting. If you wait by the water, she'll come eventually - especially with all the walking she is going.
Has anyone posted flyers at the Golf Course?
(I hate being stuck down here.)

Only one problem with Animal Control - they will not return the dog to it's owner until they NEUTER it. I know that finding Vivi is priority but I don't think the owners would want her NEUTERED.

Well I hope when the owners get her back they don't plan to breed her. She has been through alot. I hope the owners know that by neutering her is a small price to pay to have her back,

Just a thougt. Does this park area that she was sighted in have buildings? Smitty, my whippet, likes to go outside when it's sunny, even if it's cold and sit. But I've noticed he always head for the south facing wall of the shed if it's cold. They are not stupid - he knows where the warmer spots are. Also I noticed the other day while we were walking and it was much windier than I thought the walk would be. He began pulling on his leash - wish he doesn't usually do, especially towards the end of his walk, which this was. I began jogging to see what he was up to. He slowed down once we hit an area that was wooded at the side of the road - not as much wind. They aren't stupid. We need to be looking in the wooded areas if there are any - out of the way of the wind. Or if it's sunny, on the warm side of buildings. OK there's my two cents worth. Greetings from Smitty. Terrie

Diane, that was another fear of mine. Let's hope she's not pregnant by now. If it were my dog I wouldn't give a damn one way or the other, spayed or not, I'd just want her back.

I have been following the blogs for two weeks and truly admire the commitment and perseverance of all the volunteers who are looking for Vivi. Like Irene, I can't understand why none of her owners have acknowledged all the hard work and dedication. However, I do understand that people react differently to trauma and they probably have their reasons for maintaning their silence.

I have been hoping and praying that Vivi is found soon. Good luck to everyone looking for her. Just a suggestion,please bring binoculars so she could be spotted from afar and, if sighted, a strategy could be formed to capture her. Thanks again and God Bless all of you.

HELLO, Come back to reality. I don't think that they will neuter Vivi - the most famous dog in the world at the moment. That is a general rule for strays, not for lost Show Dogs with 50 people searching for her daily. Besides anyone who finds Vivi will be under the microscope of the American Media when Vivi is found.

Brian fron Va. I drove around the cemetery and the park on Sun nite and Mon nite. The cemetery is completely surronded by wrought iron fencing with spaces too small for her to slip thru. Its also flat and has very few trees and underbrush where she could hide.
I think she's taken up residence in Kissena Park, comes out for a stroll at night and returns to Kissena to hide. Animals need underbrush for insulation and bedding.
One of Brians posts on the day of the fundraiser(?) said he and Paul went to a siting in a park but came back thinking it was nothing.Peck park is the closest park to that garage. I think our girl is holed up in Kissena, hunts by night (how she found the food in the garage) and heads back to Kissena via Peck in the morning. Just my theory.

Someone wrote that Vivi was in heat right before the show so she is safe now.

I looked at the Google Earth map. When you look at it, you find the parks are not really that far apart and from the aerial view, there are lots of trees.

Good thing she is white. Easier to spot.

Brian- I have to agree with you. Plus, that is the last thing I would be worried about at this time. YOU GO LADIES AND FIND HER... Backing you up in spirit here in California.

I've been watching this unfold now on Blogs, and on web-sites for a month from Indianapolis, Indiana. I hope every day that Vivi has been found as I log on to check in the morning. Vivi has touch many hearts that love all animals. Her owners and Bo, have I think been pretty good considering the windfall of e-mail, calls, and letters they must be getting to deal with. They have posted updates regular and kept saying things like this over and over:
We are extremely grateful to Honi Reisman, Bonnie Folz and all the other volunteers in New York who we hope will continue to keep their eyes open and put up as many posters and flyers as possible.

You and I, might do things differently, I probably wouldn't leave NY until I had Vivi, but then what about her other dogs that need her? They are at least a comfort to her I'm sure. I believe that Bo writes on her behalf and has probably told her to just let him handle that, as it would add so much pressure to her already difficult emotional situation. I understand Irene your perspective. I read how Bo and Paul are trying to handle those things for her at this point it appears. I am so sure that she appreciates everything that is being done by every working or non-working person out here, the prayers, the gas spent the time off used up.....it would be very overwhelming to feel an emotional loss AND feel obligated to all these folks too for their generosity and love – SPEECHLESS - maybe describes it best?
Don't be frustrated just keep faith and pray, Vivi will be home again soon with the fine efforts that are being made daily on her behalf. I for one have been impressed with all of you. If I lived near my 2 teens and I and my Miniature Schnauzer would have been out daily looking for Vivi. Hang in there.

Hell, she should be spayed when she's strong enough. No more shows, no more litters, just come home and be a couch potato.I don't think the owners would object. THEY JUST WANT HER HOME.

No I really dont think she is pregnant, my greyhounds only goes in every 10-11 months and if they are "freaked out" they dont even come in. These guys are very sensitive to moods etc and I think its good Jill is not there, but I do wish Paul would come back. But, reality is that we have to work and none of us knows if Pauls boss is a dog person or not. Lets stay VERY positive and reward the ladies(and men) who are putting their lives on hold in NY. Hats off. Yes , If any whippet looking dog, greyhound mix breed could be available do bring them while in search, whippets are pack animals. make sure your dog is calm and maybe even older.

I know everyone is busy checking for Vivi sighting and apprehension but thought that it would be nice to inform everyone of a simple way that we could help shelter animals daily and it only takes a secone. There is a website www.theanimalrescuesite.com which gives .6 bowls of food & care to rescued animals in shelters or sanctuarys just for clicking on their site. I put it in my favorites and make it a point to click on it daily. It isn't much but every little bit helps. Maybe you can do it daily also. Look at all the animals that would be fed.

Vivi is a regular dog, just like yours or mine when she's not in the show ring. I'm sure she rolls in horse poo or whatever poo is out there, the swims in swimming holes or mud puddles, she sleeps in bed with her human - just like our dogs do. Put that show lead on her and she changes.

Yes, if I had my choice of a spayed dog or one I would never see again - I'd go for the spay. Those outside of NYC don't know animal control - I could tell you horror stories but this is not the place for that. Right now all attention must be devoted to finding poor Vivi and returning her safe and sound to her home.

I still thing that the garage owner should be asked to put flour on the floor of his garage - she just might be returning there for a meal. She got food there before and is apparently still in the area.

There is a large wooded area on 164th Street and Booth Memorial Avenue that is part of Kissena Park - that's an excellent place for her to hide during the day and there are nice fat, juicy water rats in there for her to dine on.

I think having people from animal control will only help. Beau has had 1 whippet and a IG so they know what type of dog they're dealing with. Thank you , Irene for saying what has been on our minds. I know that I would have been there searching high and low and my life would be on hold. She isn't my dog and I have had trouble sleeping and concentrating on things for the past month. Should the mounted park police be notified? I don't have a phone number. They could be helpful since they patrol the parks from a horse's view.

I think we need to get this guy. Can we take a poll of who can commit how much, to see if we can raise the money -- then give him a go-ahead?

Irene, I know, it's cold there. I felt better when it was getting warmer. I check weather.com all the time. It's always about 10 to 15 degrees colder here than there. Even with that, Smit was sitting out in it this am. in 20 degrees. What can I say, he likes the sun. I'm just trying to stay positive. I remember what the veterinarian I work with said after the first weekend she was out - and that was even colder. That as long as she could find some type of shelter - even in the woods - her odds were very good. If anyone out there is as close to a stroke right now as I am, and I think you all are, I want you to do something for me. Take two minutes and breathe. Breathe in on 4 counts and out for 9. Irene, if that is the case then the horses are a comfort to her and need her and care as well...and if Vivi is her only dog then like I said with Paul and Bo up front taking care of the press and update statements it limits even more emotional pressure. Too she is there to receive calls directly from Delta or tips and help Paul handle his personal responsibilities dogs, etc. if that is becoming necessary.

I dunno about what's going on with Jil, but I can understand the frustration some of you feel with the lack of communication. Let's face it. All of you are doing EVERYTHING financially and physically, so what does she need to do herself?

I am hoping that this dog posse can help round up another dog, Sniffles, who went missing when Vivi did. Here is his story:

The above is the only press Sniffles has gotten.

Ashley had requested help on craigslist.com, but has received more trash talk (such as accusations that there is no Sniffles and Ashley is just using the story to get money out of people) than help there. Ashley has gone out every single day/night looking since Sniffles has disappeared. She has encountered kind people and some dangerous characters too. The area Sniffles was last seen in is known for pitbull fighting and it is possible Sniffle could be used as "training bait" if he is caught by pitbull fighters. (Ashley has received taunting phone calls and comments in person to this effect.) Although Sniffles is not a glamorous show dog and just a mutt Ashley rescued from a city kill shelter in Brooklyn, he is priceless to her for the emotional support he provided after her experience comforting a murder victim. Ashley is not a young woman wealthy enough to travel the country with show dogs, she works as a domestic (nanny and dogwalker). I feel Ashley has post-traumatic stress disorder, but as we know too well, in the USA many people who work jobs as domestics don't have health insurance. She can't afford therapy or medication. Sniffles was her therapy dog. He needs to come home.

So far there have been great people out there who have sent flyers, funds, and their good wishes. But we need more people to post flyers and to search. (An added annoyance is that in the neighborhood Sniffles disappeared in some spiteful people have a habit of tearing down the posters.)

On Saturday, March 11, 7 people went out to post flyers and search for Sniffles. We need more people to help cover the area with flyers, to search, and to help stop in at food establishments and see if the workers have been feeding leftovers to or have seen Sniffles digging in their trash.

I think Sniffles is still alive. There were at least 3 reports of dogs hit by cars that could be Sniffles, but only one might be credible and is still being investigated. People are working to get information out of NYC Sanitation, but it is like pulling teeth.

However, a police officer said he saw Sniffles after that dead dog was seen. Police officers are trained in the police academy to have excellent visual memories, plus the flyer is posted at the precinct house. I trust the police officer's story. He saw Sniffles at Bedford and DeKalb Avenues, which is around 10 blocks from the last Sniffles sightings (the Von King Cultural Arts Center at Tompkins and Lafayette). Five blocks from Bedford and DeKalb Avenues is the Pratt Art Institute. I'd love to get a crew together to post flyers there and talk to students.

I am sure they are doing all they can. I do not know Paul other than seeing him at shows this past summer. If it were one of my whippets I would o.k it. Sight hounds are amazing creatures. It is hard to tell what they will do. I am praying she will come up to someone at some point.

The expense would be considerable, flying in with the dogs, and arrangements would need to be made for someone to help them in NY, a place to stay, transportation, etc. but if that all could be worked out it might help a great deal.

I just talked to Honi Reisman who has Vivi bedding etc. which is being preserved in an unopened plastic bag. She also says there’s another team from Washington, DC that’s apparently willing to come.

Vivi has been sighted today running loose in the park/greenbelt area close to the apartment building she was last seen. Tracking dogs would indeed probably be useful right now.

If you could get back to me with further details ASAP I would be grateful.

guys - her sighting was not that close to the apts. look on a map - 73rd at union tunpike. then look at peck at underhill. it's not that close by foot, believe me. she is not far from the house that her bed was put in. when i hwas at that house on saunday, a guy toldd me to go to that park that strays run there cuz people feed them. that's how we all knew exqactly where she was when bonnie called. also, tina and rosa did speak with the girl. she said vivi was in front of her, saw her, and took off running toward the right. we went round and round and round those blocks and nothng. there is a huge cemetary over there, a walking park, and other places she could easily duck into.

Once we get the go-ahead, we can clear up where Vivi was seen. Bo was answering me in haste. I've asked Bo to contact Carl directly. I've also asked Bo to give us the go-ahead. However, Darlene, I'd tell Carl that he should prepare to leave tonight. I can't imagine that the owners aren't going to take us up on this. But, in the abundance of caution, I have asked Bo to let us all know.

Both of these sightings are on opposite sides of the Long Island Expressway with only major roads to get from one side to the other. I find it difficult for her to travel without people seeing her, especially at this time of the day.

I think she is still returning to that garage since she knows there are bags of food there. If you want to confirm my theory put white flour on the floor and check the next day for footprints. WHY WON'T ANYBODY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IDEA - it's worked for lost cats before.

I'm reading everything you guys are talking about and I really don't know what to think ! You guys are raising this money for what ??? Someone seen Vivi this morning so are any of you able to be looking for her NOW ? thats what she needs , we can't just wait until your checks get to one person and hope she's still alive by the time your able to take action. She needs all of us to find her now. I have been helping find Vivi on my own since she has been gone, looking everywhere not only at the airport in the beginning but lots of places. Karin detected a scent in the same area she was seen in today , atleast not too far . She IS STILL IN THAT AREA PLEASE KEEP LOOKING maybe behind buildings and in little spaces since it's windy out.. Brian form Virgina said their was WATER over in that area near the parks , I know what he's talking about and when I go to look again in 1 hour I will study that area,if she knows thats where the water is she'll be back ... I'm not judging anyone or trying to be negative but why when the trails started getting warm why did Paul leave?? And where is Jil ? she hasn't come on this blog and even said thanks everyone once!!! We hear from Paul and Bo but Jil is Vivi's mom and I'm just surprised she hasn't really said too much, thats her dog all week long and nothing... ! Freaken dog is out on the streets and cold, tired, sad, and not one of them can be here ? I know it may be hard for them to get here but HELLO VIVI HAS BEEN SPOTTED AND WE ARE ALL LOOKING FOR YOUR DOG! YOU SHOULD BE HERE IF SHE MEANS SO MUCH TO YOU , ATLEAST ONE OF YOU . WE ALL WANT YOUR DOG FOUND BUT IS IT WHAT YOU WANT? Vivi is in a nice Heated Cargo?! ... she never was and now the truth is yes she's been out there on her own for a month in the streets probably eating out of garbage cans , must not be Show Dog material anymore? Can you please come back and look for your dog with us instead of leaving and giving up again . You have to have will power. Shes close and your so far away. Hopefully one of us will catch her . Sorry don't mean to sound angry but I'm cold and tired and really feel lie I'm busting my behind to find Vivi and the owners aren't even here :( , what a story... One last thing for you guys who are searching bless your hearts I know you must be cold but keep it up , she's worth it . One trick you CAN use is bring some treats with you and if you happen to see her in a distance throw a treat in her direction but don't make noise or try to call her , just throw it, she will smell it and because she's probably hungry she will come in your direction then if she walk towards you bend down and let her see that you got the treats hopefully you can get her like that. Another thing bring some food or treats if you see her in the park areas especially near the WATER or anywhere around there make a little trail of food maybe starting from the pond or where you seen her and end at a point were you can catch her maybe in a corner or something try and do this for a few days if it's her she depends on that food and maybe she'll start off a little pattern of going in that are but just make sure you and another person can hide out there for a while to see what happens . One more thing if you go to these parks even if you see her don't make it look like your walking up to her walk around her on purpose so she doesn't think she's your target. The food things work really well . I have had to fo it a few times. My mission contines...

In reference to mounted police comments earlier - Early last evening, I drove by Bell and 73rd avenue vicinity, and there actually were two mounted police going east along on 73rd. avenue on either side in the vicinity of the winsdor apt complex.

I think this is the owners call to make- we DO need a tracker ASAP- that is the only way Vivi is going to be found- but I think the owner has to decide ASAP who to use (there's Carl who's ready to go, I think Bo mentioned a person in DC).

I will donate money too- at least $50 you can put me down for. The funds seem not to be a problem as we are already over Carl's fee.

The owners NEED to be involved and MAKE a really quick decision NOW!!!

Please STOP with the notes to/about the owners. Paul has been in NY often, but needs his job I'm sure to keep paying expenses, Jil has enough to handle too I'm sure. Don't judge her, you don't have any idea how she feels or how she is doing. Don't cast stones until you can say you've walked a mile in their shoes. She was the ONLY person Delta in the beginning would speak to so at that point she did play a large role or so she thought. I don't know them personally but any person that lives with show dogs or breeds dogs knows it is not easy to make big $$s doing so and it is not 'normally' about that for those that show them. If you can not be nice, and leave notes about the owners out of this, don't write at all. They have been appreciative in all their update notes and that should be enough. There is not a reason in the world to be harsh with them here.

What is going on with Biggie the Pug? The last posting I see is March 13 and he's still missing. Are the owners forming search parties?

Darlene, you are one incredible lady to risk your credit like this. To put this on your charge card and trust everyone to send in the money - WHOA. By the same token, everyone that is sending in money trusts that this is really happening. I have learned so much from all of you - TRUST BEING NUMBER ONE.

By the way, not to digress -- but rather than expressing anger at the owners, how about Delta? They have clearly washed their hands of this matter. They gave up the minute Vivi bolted. They were responsible for her at the time of the escape - they took her out on the tarmac in an unsecured carrier. As far as I am concerned, they have full liability for this situation (yes, that's a lawyer talking).

Well...unfortunately I came back empty-handed :(
I took that early lunch, left Melville @ 10:25am - hopped on the LIE to find out it was closed and had to exit onto Northern State so I did not arrive at the site until 11:00am. I scouted the Peck/Underhill/Utopia area on foot and by car. I scouted near the gold course. I stopped mailmen, I stopped a landscaper at the park, I stopped ppl walking dogs and ppl w/o dogs. I found "team Honi" as I was walking out of the woody marshy area next to the golf course (she said "you shouldn't be out by yourself - but I had to come)and I found "team Tina" as well as a shelter worker from Animal Haven, but no ViVi :(
At 12:45pm I had to head back to work...arg!
Funny how the searchers can find each other but we can't find ViVi.
They were still there when I left.
I just sent several checks (for ViVi, Sniffles and Bobu & the strays) but you can count me in for $50 towards Carl the pet detective.

I just got a call from Paul, Vivi's co-owner. He definitely gave us the go-ahead. Isn't it amazing what we can do in the course of a morning!!! He is very excited and will call Carl right now to let Carl know they are behind this, and to give Carl information on how to get the scent materials from Vivi's bedding.

Way to go -- you all really rock!!

If this effort you are all making with Carl is successful (even if it isn't) the expenses for this should be presented to Delta by the attorney representing the owners. Keep good receipts and track of what he does for the attorney and maybe the $$ donated today can be donated to the same organization as the fundraiser that Brian held if Delta will kick back the money eventually.

My opinion is we need someone on the ground and that you guys are so experienced now you could be the ones giving phone advice. We need expert surveillance and tracking.

Darlene,....if that wasn't part of the original deal with Carl, I'd be careful that he is who/what and as skilled as he claims. Earlier someone asked if you had references for him, did anyone check with the Chamber of commerce or Better business Bureau or ask him for references straight out? Change in the plan to be here like tomorrow would indicate a possible problem to me.

Just take the $3000 and hire the other pet detective back "Karin" I think it was for 3 days. She is $1000 per day, that buys you three days and she did have dogs to track Vivi.

This pet detective offered his services within the first 24 hours .. and was not considered needed with the assistance of the psychics, Pet Hunters International and the other search dogs brought in by AKC.

Then Karin was to be the answer with her communicator skills and her dogs and she basically cost all the money raised at $1,000 plus expenses per day and still no Vivi.

If Karin has a 87% recovery of pets and is so sought after, why couldn't she have done a communication with Vivi from her home as she has done for others much cheaper. If she guaranteed her results and only charged for results she would be rolling in the dough ; just working 48 weeks a year x 5 days a week x $1,000 per day x 87%=$208,800 income. I figured it at a guarantee of 87% and she would not charge without results for the other 13%.

WOW, it makes me want to sign up for the 3 day training class and become an independent pet detective, communicator, and be rolling in the bucks.

Now, it has come full circle back to Carl who seemed more reputable then Karin and even does it at a discount price for the needy. Is he guaranteeing he will find Vivi for this fee? Who is saying any of these sightings are valid and how is Carl going to cover all this area? Then I wonder, why he would not have come on his own and just collected the $5,000 reward being offered and found her initially.

I think if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. I find it surprising with the amount of work which has been done, the search parties, the posters, etc. there has not been one valid positive sighting? And who is going to let a dog out of their sight, knowing she is worth $5,000.

A clear message from the owner is there is a $5,000 reward and if Vivi is being held for ransom, it is not going up. Maybe, start reducing it by $500 a day and see what happens.

If Carl is guaranteeing his work, then yes this would be a good investment to make with almost a $2,000 return.

What happened to him packing and jumping in the car?
I thought (unfortunately) that it sounded too good to be true.
Fax, phone- hell he was on his way here. What prompted his change of mind - and you know what- it doesn't matter what prompted it. Anyone who agrees to do something a hour ago and then changes the agreed to plan sounds unreliable to me.
As Ko said - I know this all happened quickly but we should check this guys references as well as the next person we DO hire to do the job they promise to do.

Yes he should probably not be paid until he gets here, then part of it up front and part upon leaving after the specified time. Also ask for a references from previous customers. This is probably the most improtant thing and can be checked with a couple of calls. "Would you hire him again?" We don't want to get so excited that we don't do the things one should do whenever contracting with anyone about anything involving real money.

Keep in mind that when paying by credit card, if we do not receive the services agreed upon, then the charge can be disputed with the credit card company and reversed back. Before giving this gentleman any money, I would require a written contract outlining exactly what services he is going to provide for what amount of month and for what period of time. This is only good business

Karin was able to do several things while she was here -- she confirmed where Vivi was most recently. Without that, we'd still be at the airport. It's the ability to track Vivi's scent that we really need right now. We need to confirm the neighborhoods that she is in. No pet detective can do that over the phone. In my opinion, Karin was very helpful -- I think she just needed to be here longer.

Oh gals, and guys...calm...breath. We had a close sighting this morning, closer than any other one before, right. With that, lets do some research. Yesterday there was someone who posted a TON of these rescue type services on the blog. Lets keep it local if possible, NY, NJ..theres GOT to be someone whos credible from the area. Even CT. I'm at work and getting fired if I don't get off this blog so I love you guys and stay calm. It's been 30 days and we're closer than ever. Other than that...I fully commit to forming a DEFINITE TEAM for FRIDAY if people are willing to take the day out of work and I will pick up some "GOOD PEOPLE" :) on my way.

You can google Carl Washington Pet Detective and find many news stories posted on his successful rescues. His website explains that he needs maps of the area first and as much input as he can get. If he is saying he will come in a few days it is probably because he feels you all are so close to her already and may rescue her without his help. Also, it will give you time to more closely zero in on her location. Give him a chance.

However, PLEASE, PLEASE be sure whoever you hire is REPUTABLE -- get references and be CERTAIN. ANYONE CAN CALL THEMSELVES A PET DETECTIVE, and they can sound good on the phone and say all the right things. Then you pay them, and you're stuck. Don't think it's a good idea to pay the ENTIRE fee upfront.

I've tried to catch up with everything, still reading but wanted to just be sure you are very, very CAREFUL who you hire.

Also karin told when I talk to her she was in Ilinois and would be going home to Oklahoma. remember her sister passed away. So it would not be good timing for her. Maybe we should check into those greyhound hunters.

Suggestion: Where I live in Indiana, there is a dog training school that holds classes for all dogs but he specializes in German Shepards, and I'm guessing but probably tracking as well as obedience. Check with some of the obedience schools in your area for 'assistance' that might result in a training exercise and not in expense?

I think I suggested yesterday, who knows where as I'm losing my mind that Karin be consulted for a recommendation ... we need someone with TRACKING ability and SURVEILLANCE like Karin had. I certainly got the impression that she is unable to return in the near future due to other commitments.

I'm truly believe time is of the essence ... we need to find our little girl NOW!! Not much time for phone consultations; maybe Carl thinks we have a huge group of people available for looking. We don't ... we have an enormously dedicated SMALL group who are probably going to need long vacations to recuperate pretty soon. With as few people as we have, it's impossible to keep up with Vivi. She's SO CLOSE -- NOW IS THE TIME!

I just contacted academy of canine education at QUEENS http://dogtrainingny.com/in-the-news.htm to see if they can help find Vivi. These people TRAIN K-9 DOGS BESIDES OTHER DOGS.

He sounds legit to me, you can give him my little bit...or to anyone you say. I think alot of fair questions have been raised but I don't think they are irritated. Take a breath, the websites are posted, let everyone investigate for themselves and come back here. That is what I did and I am comfortable with him. I do think there needs to be someone expert on the ground and not just on the phone and I'll bet if you tell him that he'll agree to come. We can go through the same voting process we did to raise the money. I vote for Karin OR Carl.

Should I let Bo know about these latest developments? Perhaps we could let him (and the owners) know that we've raised $3,000 toward an on-the-ground pet detective, and see if they are able to either get Karin or someone else. This, combined with fundraiser money should be able to get Karin back for at least 3-4 days, if she is available. I still think the key is someone on the ground who can confirm where Vivi has most recently been.

Just a thought. I think one of Carl's search dogs is a toy poodle. Now what the poodle could do I don't know. I've owned a poodle and I know what what poodles are like. someone needs to ask him about his dogs. At lease with Karin's two dogs they had hound blood in them. Just something to think about.

i told him to hold up. he is not coming until he receives 1/3 of the total, and the detailed sighting map, the vivi profile form filled out ccompletely, and a signed contract. he does not want to come until sat. at 5: a.m. he feels we should try it on our own with his guidance for 1/3 total. i told him over and over, and over - we don;t have the people, especially weekdays - that's the problem. not being capable and smart enough isn't but to have 3-6 people chasing all over queens in traffic is not helping at all. i told him i was in need of an on-hand professional - not phone guidance. that's the poop. we will get one irregardless. but we need one NOW.

I really think Karin is out of the question. She had a death in the family AND at another post from the owners saying she was really busy/other commitments. Someone can contact the PD and ask for the K9 unit and then ask where they got their dog trained etc. www.akc.org lists all clubs in the area, a local all breed club could be contacted for foot search and post flyers. also contact www.searchdogfoundation.org and www.nasar.org

Ask for help and advice on locating a search dog for vivi. maybe they have a newbie who wants to practice and would do it free???

I was thinking that about the poodle as well and the Jack Russell? Never thought of them as tracker dogs. I've seen his web-site. Guys I'm a programmer and anyone can type and put out anything they want on a web-site. Also, it can't be just any tracker dogs. For example, it's my understanding that most tracker dogs are trained to ignore other animal scents -- they are looking for people. We would need dogs that are trained specifically to track animals. Well, it seems like we are back to square one again.

It was me that spoke to Karin. She was on her way back to Oklahoma. By the way it sounded she had already made future commitments. I hate to call her because of her sister-in-law passing away, It also sounded like she would only work through the family. I guess we are back to hoping Vivi allows herself to be caught. I am not sure search trips will do much good without tracking dogs. If we don't have a detective, the best thing is going back to putting up fliers and just trying to educate people that she is out there, that there is a reward, and that she is still missing. I'm afraid she is getting weaker and will be hiding more frequently and therefore will be much less visible.

regarding what breeds to use for tracking. Well all dogs can track, we do it with greyhounds. BUT here comes the thing about who will "stay on it" the longest. Sighthounds have a very short attention span, thats why its so few doing obedience etc. Other dogs loves pleasing their owners and can focus for longer times= better tracking dogs.

Marty - can you help Darlene? Can you call Karin and ask her if she is available NOW or can she refers us to someone she knows and trusts? A five minute phone call and who knows, we'll be on our way.

Karin told me that Jack Russel's are just as hard to catch as the whippet. that would be our luck that the damn Jack would start running with ViVi. I know, I have two jacks and they are hell of wheels.

Go after the PD K-9 units to help you guys. Has anyone asked (this entire time)? Inside the airport didn't make since I'm sure but now that you think she is outside - time to ask ! If about a dozen of you call that live locally they can't ignore you right? Well okay maybe they can, but you never know what you can get just for asking. Like the training schools in the area I mentioned, call it can't hurt and all they can do is say 'no we can't help'.

May I suggest someone contact Kat Albrecht (not sure of spelling) the CEO of Pet Hunters? I believe she was interested early on, and if she can't do it herself (she has an awesome record and the right kind of tracking dogs and surveillance equipment, she can tell us who SHE would recommend.

I honestly don't see a poodle as a tracking dog. There has to be a scent hound in there.

I did find articles - I did a search on google, I was reading them from the various publications websites and not his. One was written by Gene Weingarten who writes a column every week in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine, my closest major hometown paper. There were alot. I looked it up because I was skeptical and it convinced me. I only looked at websites belonging to newspapers and not to any individual's site. But there were quite a few of those too. It doesn't matter to me who is used I just think it needs to be experts on the ground. Jack Russell's are great hunters and are trainable in tracking. My training facility (I do agility with BC's) does tracking seminars. Many types of dogs are good at it. It is more a matter of training and the individual dog than breed. The tracking expert in our area uses Rottweilers and we have a very prominent SAR group who has been around the world in disasters who uses German Shepherds.

Hello people, disappointed in how the pet detective has worked out I went online to find any help from Whippet search and rescue organizations. I just spoke with a rescue person four hours from NYC in upstate NY. She has Whippets, a truck and willing to take time to come to NY with her dogs and even sleep in her truck if necessary BUT she needs to know if there is a definitive sighting of Vivi. I, of course, could not give it to her, told her what I have been reading and we both agreed that she should speak directly to Bonnie who is more attuned. Apparently she has used her Whippets before for rescue. She was most sincere, knowledgeable and serious and whether she comes to NY depends upon the sighting info which only Bonnie can provide. We left it that she would call Bonnie. I mention this not to get everyone overly excited but to note that there may be other avenues, closer to NY, that we can explore.

Darlene, Bonnie might know the number for them.

If anyone wants me to call anyone, let me know! I've got an hour before I have to leave and (sob) I'll be away from my computer until LATE!

- no reply as of yet. The Search Dog Foundation is based in Calif but say they have regional teams. I don't know where the 2nd one is based out of and there is no phone number to contact them.

I commend Darlene, Irene, Bonnie and everyone else who is tirelessly looking for Vivi as well as Sniffles and Biggie. You are the best. Better than the best. At this point unless she (or any of the dogs) are near JFK all I can do is give money and support - I apologize. Thank you for your tireless efforts - they WILL bear fruit I hope soon!

I do think, as I've said before, we need a tracker- NY is just way too big for a few people, more or less and army of people, to try to find moving dogs. Perhaps, rather than a bunch of us trying to find a tracker, one person- and maybe Bo or Paul since they are the ones to make the decision - should be the ones. We have at this point a couple of trackers names. I do wish Karin was still here- don't understand why only 2 days were given to the chase (I know someone died in her family- my condolences) -was it the lack of funds? If she can not come back immediately then can she please recommend someone that can. Time is of the essence.

And again if Denise/Newsday or maybe Brian can post a post box or address for donations that would be great- it should be in a central place that we all can easily see. And the tracker should also try to find Sniffles and Biggie since they will already be here.

The rescue person from upstate NY sounds good. Seems to be the closest geographically as well. Since time is of the essence, this may be a practical solution. But then I am not sure if a rescue person has the same skill set as a pet detective.

REMEMBER THIS...Lt. Alan B. Borgal, a Massachusetts State Humane Officer, has offered the use of a remote controlled drop-net (30’x30’) that when activated drops in 1/3 of a second. The net is designed to be used on dogs. You can activate the net from a 1/4 mile away. They are in the process of purchasing a $1200 dollar infrared camera, so a person can check the net at night. If we have a sighting of Vivi they can come and set up the net, provided that it is possible for someone to monitor the net. Lt. Borgal is a Special State Police Officer and has thirty years experience of Animal Rescue. They also have several other humane trap designs that may be helpful besides cage dog traps. We appreciate the offer and will take advantage of it if possible.
