Quinnipiac: Obama leads in swing states

A new poll today from Quinnipiac that will cheer Obama supporters.

He leads McCain in three key swing states: Ohio 48 - 42 percent, Pennsylvania 52 - 40 percent and (surprisingly) Florida 47-43 percent.

The dynamics are not surprising: He has a solid lead among women and is even among men, he trails slightly with whites but gets 90 percent of the black vote, he sweeps young voters.

The polls also tested support for Hillary as v-p, and found it a wash: Democrats love the idea, but Republicans and -- more importantly -- independents -- hate it. Poll assistant director Peter Brown:

"If Sen. Obama seriously is thinking about picking Sen. Clinton as his running mate, these numbers might cause him to reconsider. The people who really matter come November - independent voters - turn thumbs down on the idea. And, many say they are less likely to vote for him if he puts her on the ticket."
