Skelos first campaign ad goes federal

New Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos will be making his first appearance Wednesday in a campaign ad since taking over the Senate's top post. He won’t be touting one of his senate majority, but GOP local congressional contender Jack Martins.

The Rockville Centre Republican is the highest ranking of eight local officials appearing with Mineola Mayor Martins who is challenging his hometown Rep. Carolyn McCarthy.

The 30-second spots, which will run for several weeks, were put together by Martins' campaign consultant Rory Whelan, who has also worked for Skelos for more than a decade. Whelan declined to disclose the size of the buy or how many stations are involved. Martins’ raised $211,000 in his first campaign filing.

The ad’s common theme is “change” with Martins saying “You can’t change Washington until you change who you send to Washington.” Martins adds that, after 12 years, McCarthy “hasn’t changed the system, she’s become the system.”

A Skelos spokesman said that the majority leader lives in the congressional district and is showing support for the good job Martins has done by appearing in the ad.

It's called party building: working to get like-minded people elected to offices besides the State Senate. Bruno failed to do it, and now the party as a whole is in peril. Dean knows better. He's the man!!!

That music is out of control!

I have lived in Mineola for the past 7 years and have seen first hand the change that Jak Martins has brought to Mineola as its mayor. There is no doubt that a man with Mr. Martin's vision, integrity and intellect can bring a positve change to the people of New York's 4th congressional district, and address the real issues that concern the residents and businesses of the district.
Mr. Martins not only will bring change that is necessary in Congress, as a man of insight and action he will bring leadership that is so desperately needed in Washington.
