Senate hopeful Foley drops Dahroug petition challenge
Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley has dropped his lawsuit to void the nominating petitions of opponent Jimmy Dahroug in their Democratic primary race for the right to take on State Sen. Caesar Trunzo (R-Brentwood) in November.
Doug Forand, a Senate Democratic campaign consultant working for Foley, said a decision was made to drop the suit “in the interest of party unity” because the court hearing was about to begin dealing with “criminal accusations” involving potentially fraudulent signatures.
Forand said Dahroug willl be on the primary ballot and made no concessions in settling the case. “It would have created a lot of negative divisions,” he said, “So we decided to pull it off the table and move forward.”
Dahroug could not be reached for immediate comment, but his lawyer Kevin Patrick Brosnahan said Foley’s camp’s objections had “no merit” and his rival was "looking for a graceful way" to drop the case. He added if if there was any substance to their claims they “should have gone through with the hearing.” The lawyer also said Dahroug “felt very strongly” he had “to meet head on any claim” that he did not collect enough signatures to get on the ballot.
He confirmed that Dahroug has scheduled a news conference next Wednesday, but could not disclose what the candidate planned to discuss.

Dahroug has officially dropped out of the State Senate Race! Time to get Caesar Trunzo (R-FL)
Jimmy officially had the BOE withdraw his name from the September Primary ballot this morning! Quid Pro Quo with the petition challenge allegations? Maybe yes, maybe no but it is more important to move on with a united party against Trunzo!
good old Kevin Patrick Brosnahan.....always there, always eratic
What is this guy's deal? He says it's nothing personal or he really likes Jimmy, but all I have ever seen from him were attacks against Jimmy and his character. Considering what issues will be prominent in the next 2 years like gay marriage, what would the point of a Dem majority in Senate matter when Brian Foley is against marriage equality and is going to vote with the Republicans.
Thank you Jimmy for your enthusiasm and dedication. I believe that this is not the last we will see of you.
Darryl needs to know that I have a daughter working with LIGALY in Bay Shore. That I attended the Gala fundraising ball that was widely supported by every LGBT organization in metro NY. Dahroug could not win period. I have read nothing about Brian Foley's opposition to Gender Equality. But please grow up politically Darryl and learn that we would have Gay Marriage today if it were not for the State Senate Republican majority blocking action on the Assembly passed bill. A Democratic Majority will lift that block and then the floor vote will be allowed and how Foley votes on that will mean nothing because the majority will vote yes because the Republicans representing progressive mid-hudson Valley districts as well as a couple from Nassay Suffolk cannot withstand the consequences of opposing it. The all important issue on this and many many other progressive bills is to put the Democratic Party in the majority.
All well and good to be rid of Dahroug's arrogance but in light of Foley's incompetence, Caesar is still going back to Albany.
