Pressure on Mondello mounts within Nassau GOP

Post-election pressure is mounting from within on state and county GOP chairman Joseph Mondello as he acknowledges the need to rebuild. The Schwartz Report has this posting, of which excerpts are included below:

Dear Friend:

... We have all heard the empty excuses that have come out of Post Avenue regarding the reasons for the failures of the organization to be competitive in recent years....

....The same old excuses, reported in the local newspapers after this year’s utter failure, should compel you to action, on behalf of your Party.

.....Mr. Mondello is responsible for carrying out many important matters on behalf of the Republican Party. However, his inability to lead our party invariably has resulted in failure.

For example, Mr. Mondello’s failure to employ new strategies, develop an attractive message or counter Democrat voter registration efforts....His failure to support and grow the Young Republican organization, once a farm system for future Republican leaders and candidates, has caused the Party difficulty in attracting this important segment of our County. The failure to reach out to Latino voters, and other minority groups and their voters, has caused our Party to surrender the support of those voters to the opposition.

...Despite his long-held public stance against judicial cross-endorsement, he has been forced to give Party endorsement to Democrat and minor party judicial candidates in exchange for endorsement of a few Republican judicial candidates.... The Party should never be in a position of endorsing candidates who do not adhere to important elements of our Party’s philosophy.

The Republican Committee has failed to expend sufficient resources to wage aggressive and successful campaigns in many races....

Mr. Mondello’s complete lack of responsiveness to the executive committee, his failure to adjust our Party’s message and approach to changing times and demographics, and his general failure of leadership, have made it clear that he can no longer effectively function as the Chairman of the Nassau County Republican Committee.

I hope you agree that the future of the Nassau County Republican Party depends upon the selection of a new, dynamic and energetic leader. ....

Sincerely,

COMMITTEE FOR
NASSAU COUNTY
REPUBLICAN PARTY REFORM

See even the Nassau guys now know what motivates the 21st Century Republicans to go up against with the Trunzo/Messian/McGowan Team here in Islip. While I understand and appreciate our GOP brethern to the west, we could share with you a long story about Leaders being out of touch with reality and wheelin' and dealin'. We are locked in a long battle that will not stop until the REAL COMMITTEE PEOPLE vote in a fair election for much needed change. Unfortunately it takes all we have to move the ball upfield here locally but the goal line is very near. You must play a flawless game and keep up your "A" game. If it was easy everybody would be doing it!

Wish we could help you, but it takes all we have just to complete the party cleansing/purge here in our town.

You are right, stay strong and maybe your guy may join our Chairman and his gang in the former leaders catergory.

Good Luck!

was this letter actually sent to real people or just posted on the schwartzreport? If it was sent out there's possibly something trying to get started. If not, it means absolutely nothing. Is there any real news out there?

The Trunzo/Messina crew has got to go ASAP. That's a given. I just hope real Republicans take over and that the group in waiting isn't akin to the Main Street Republicans in Huntington who are shills for Petrone and his cronies.

We need Republican grassroots organizing and strategic planning. This is no need for despair. The Democrats will go too far. They didn't run as the extreme liberals that they really are. The public will rebel in two years at the midterm elections. It's certain. It always happens and will happen this time.

Back to Islip: The town GOP cries out for new leadership. It should happen quickly. Trunzo should be given a big party for carrying the banner for three decades. No need to humiliate the guy like the Soviets always did to their ex-rulers. Throw him a festive party, honor him and then turn the page. The longer it drags out the more it hurts the GOP.

Modello should have been ousted from his Nassau post years ago. He has steadily brought about the complete demise of the most vaunted GOP organization in the USA. It is sad this was allowed to happen and very disappointing he was ever installed at NYS GOP chair. The guy has to go. If he had any shame, he would resign from both positions this week. He is full of excuses. Give someone else a chance to turn things around.

Someone please airlift this old hack out of GOP HQ on State Street and replace him with Pete King, the only Republican in the state capable of rebuilding this party. We need an honest, capable, energetic state party leader who is a BELIEVER. Please, no Meier's, Faso's, Cox's, Quinn's...... KING!!!! He's only got another term left in Congress anyway, and he's spinning his wheels there in the minority. Makes sense.

Pete King isn't the answer. We need a hands on leader who shows up to work every day, who travels the state to learns the issues and personalities, who has the ability to develop ideas and answers, and who can build from a grassroots level. I like Pete King, but he will never be around. Why does King only have one term left in Congress?

I'm not sure who should take over as state GOP leader, but I am certain Mondello should be forced out this week. The new chair should not have political ambitions of his own. He should have a combination political/business background.

Just who is the "I" referred to in this "Dear Friend" letter?

Jim:

Not to worry, as every Committee Person in Islip knows are the Democrats worst nightmare about to happen; The 21st Cenhtury Republican Movement is about to have the torch of GOP Leadership passed. All the political world has laid lots of goodies at their feet and to a man and woman, they were all sent this riff-raff on their way. There were many personal sacrifices made to date (see District Court races '08) and frankly Islip will loose some really fine future caqndidates due them making the things you listed happen. Every item of your post is part of the 21st CR Mission Statement (ggogle us, no websites on Newsday) and again as every GOP loyalist knows, the movement started from within. Sleep well Jim in knowing that discssions about an honorable exit strategy for a GREAT Senator (supported by the 21st CRs) is in the works (with an appropraite recognition) and the future of the Islip GOP is bright because dedicated, talented and HONORABLE peolple have guided the 21st CR Movement.

If you do not believe me ask any fair-minded Committee Person,

,

21st Century Republicans....John Schettino....Mr. Tantone ....where are your candidates ?????????????? 3rd Avenue is not a presence for public office. Your support for a selfish old man who has used his office to employ his family is bizarre. How do you expect to present a new face to the public when you are castrated by straddling the fence ????? Show the talent you profess to have. The truth is, there is no honorable exit strategy for Trunzo and you know it.

Since you mentioned me by name, I would like to respond. First, the support for Trunzo as Senator was actually support for the Republican Senate majority, and thus in the best interests of Long Islanders. Take note of this fact when your school taxes go up at least 25% in the next 2 years. Our own agenda needed to be temporarily put aside for the betterment of all of us. So, please understand the politics involved before making statements.
Next, I find it amusing that someone posting on a blog under a fake name is making comments about straddling the fence. Just so you understand, blowing up the entire Islip Republican Committee, as you seem to think is a good idea, in order to assume leadership is a last resort; you seem to advocate brain surgery with a chain saw. You will certainly get the tumor out, but will certainly kill the patient.
Lastly, because I don't think we know each other, I will let you know that I am only interested in positive change, not revenge, or humiliation. Thus, rather than you and I oppose each other, I invite you to become part of the 21st Century Movement, and help us progress. We are all about open exchange of ideas, and participation. You will be heard and listened to. Maybe your help will be the ingredient that gets the change to happen.

Hello. The pain of making the necessary sacrifices always hurts more than you think it's going to. I know. It sucks. That being said, doing something seriously creative is one of the most amazing experiences one can have, in this or any other lifetime. If you can pull it off, it's worth it. Even if you don't end up pulling it off, you'll learn many incredible, magical, valuable things. It's NOT doing it when you know you full well you HAD the opportunity- that hurts FAR more than any failure. Help me! Please help find sites for: Dish network satellite receiver. I found only this - dish Network descrambler. Best satellite tv offer directv or dish network? Direct tv vs dish network pros and cons. Thank you very much ;-). Chaya from Pakistan.
