my best movie of the year is transformers. the reason i picked it was it set a record at the box office. and SWEENEY TODD did a lot worse than it. and my worst is there were so many that were bad. like SWEENEY TODD,MICHAEL CLAYTON,HAIRSPRAY and many others.

Dean, I can't believe you put Sweeney Todd at the top of your best of 2007 movies list! Sure, it might have made it into the top 10, but, please, Hairspray was far and above better. Not only did it take a popular stage musical and make it better on screen, it put a complete unknown into the lead - and she was fabulous. On the contrary, putting someone like Johnny Depp in as Sweeney, Helena as Mrs. Lovett, and Sasha as Pirelli, was nigh unto the worst casting for a MUSICAL that could have been done. Their musical performances were passionless and uninspiring, two key characteristics necessary to pull off these high-powered Sondheim roles. Had a different director, or perhaps a musical director along with Burton, been on hand, I might have left the theater feeling differently. Yeah, the blood and guts and gore were on the mark, albeit a bit excessive, but its a musical. Think Rent would have been as good with others? God help us when Wicked gets made into a movie!

Dean:
Thanks for the great list. I'm right with you on Sweeney Todd. I've waited some 25 years for a film version, and it did not disappoint.
And thanks for the worst list. That's 10 movies that I will continue to avoid. Happy New Year!
