Redone Dome

Today, I was walking around the Louisiana Superdome, preparing a story on the phase two renovations. To my eyes, the dome has never looked better. From the new electronic score boards, to the upgraded and tricked out luxury suites and club lounges, the 32 year old stadium has its swagger back. Like many homes across the Katrina damaged Gulf Coast, the dome sparkles with new life in a region of rebirth.

What are some are your thoughts on the redone dome. Do you think this expands the life of the building? Should Saints owner Tom Benson drop his demand for a new stadium at least for the next 10 to 15 years?

Construction Material and Home Improvement Thefts

Metro area law enforcers just busted an alleged theft ring they say is responsible for stealing about $300,000 worth of construction materials, copper wire, tools and other items from Home Depot, Lowes and other retailers from LaPlace to New Orleans. Many people still fixing up their homes from Katrina tell me they can't leave anything in their yard or in their gutted out home for fear someone will steal it. Recently some contractors in Lakeview told me armed men shaked them down at a job site. I remember robbers even stole the brass bannister from in front of St. Patrick's in the Warehouse District. What's going on here? We have all seen countless examples of how Katrina brought out the best in people. Are we still seeing how it can also bring out the worst in people?

Terrible Traffic

This week, New Orleans area communters got some good news. It seems the never ending, road widening project on I-10 may be ahead of schedule. U.S. Transporation Secretary Mary Peters visited the construction zone on Friday. Louisiana transportation officials told her the job is 55% complete and it should be done by next September.

What are some of your traffic nightmare stories? Do you think the work will lessen the frustration and backups on the highway at the New Orleans-Jefferson Parish line?
