Have you been down to the French Quarter lately? I had the good fortune to spend much of Friday in Jackson Square, preparing a story about the rebounding tourism industry. Visitors are flocking back to the city and it's great to see. October is a picture postcard month in New Orleans and there is no better way to enjoy the great weather than being a tourist in your own town.
What are some of your impressions of the French Quarter, post-Katrina? Where are some of your favorite spots to hang out or have a meal?

The French Quarter appears to be the cleanest it has been in years. It is great to see the number of conventions steadily increasing. Locals appear to be out and about giving business to merchants. New festivals are popping up. Hopefully, the city is on the rebound.
It would be nice if the hotels and other businesses re-implement the discounts offered to local residents a few years ago. Discounts may encourage locals to stay in town for a weekend getaway and spend their money locally.

I had the blessing of experiencing one of those "postcard" days in the Quarter this past Saturday...it couldn't have been more perfect. A huge wedding was just starting to second-line out of St. Louis Cathedral...not a cloud in the sky...breezy...lots of people just ENJOYING themselves...I can't tell you how refreshing and wonderful it was to see all that. The city IS back...it never left. New Orleans' charm will never die...that's why folks keep coming back. It's a wonderful, wonderful thing.
