Meet Katrina Campins of Miami Social

It is with great pleasure that I have agreed to write a weekly blog for the Sun Sentinel particularly since I am extremely proud of being a native Miamian.

My choice of words for this introductory piece is a bit serious, lacking the entertainment factor audiences expect from a cast member of Miami Social, recently described as “a sort of Barbary Coast of free enterprise gone berserk.”

The questions I was asked to address were simple: things I love about being a celebrity, the sunrise, the coffee, the mid-afternoon meeting, my attire, etc…

In essence a day in the life of Katrina Campins. Do not get me wrong, I am honored by the request and will be more than glad to oblige, yet prior to doing so I feel a dire need to set the record straight since I am humbled by the multitude of positive feedback.

First and foremost I do not consider myself of “Celebrity Status.” I see myself as a hard-working woman who has been empowered to do the right thing, which is what I hope to do.

My life seems glamorous but much hard work goes into my day to day.

I was brought up in a traditional Cuban-American environment where education, hard work, morals and standards were of the utmost importance. I was also brought up to believe that absolutely everything was attainable.

It was that foundation that afforded me the mind-set I grew to believe and sustain today. Contrary to common belief, opportunities were not handed to me on a silver platter -- my career is my own and my achievements I share with those that entered the make-up of my character and my thoughts, as well as my success.

Nothing gratifies me more that to see others succeed as it is so very palpable to me. Having said that, I truly hope that people will be able to get past the glamour and glitz Miami Social depicts and at the same time relate to the many diverse and unique characteristics the cast has to share.

Since Donald Trump’s The Apprentice, I have matured to a great extent.

My priorities have changed, humility is my true wisdom and it has prepared me for the inevitable changes in life.

I have learned that humility is intelligent self respect and that the whole celebrity culture is misconstrued. People ask me why I decided to embark on this “frivolous” Miami Social venture, yet for me, the motivating factor had everything to do with my long-term goal to utilize the media to empower women and to encourage them to honor themselves -– a subject I am most passionate about.

I yearn to instill a sense of self in others and encourage them to make the most of themselves by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of confidence and possibility into flames of optimism, drive and ultimate achievement.

On a lighter note, YES, I am what I am, a compendium of convictions, I do not conform, I enjoy straight talk about the soul, I love being all woman and what comes along with it -- the grace, the style, the smile, the charm, the clothes, the shoes, the jewelry, the poise and using it all to my advantage.

Stay tuned as I will touch base next week – in the meantime, have a GREATER WEEK!

The Herald said it best, "Sifting through all the imbecilic, self-obsessed trash littering Ocean Drive to come up with the seven most pathetically vacuous, narcissistic excuses for human beings on all of South Beach was truly a Herculean task."
The NY Times was equally as kind: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/14/arts/television/14miami.html?_r=1
Personally, after watching this trash for five minutes, I was driven to google "Miami Social disgusting" just to see how many people agreed with me.
At least the google results left me with a little more faith in humanity.

I just happened to look at this since I'm on the Advertising side of the biz and been hearing some buzz about this show. Though I could only stomach 5 minutes, it depicts the ultimate "poserish" lifestyle that has come to portray Miami. This is entertainment?... and by this your helping empower women? How?... You said your a straight talker so lets hear it straight..why do you really do this show? Real estate is in the gutter and you need the money? or whatever.. that would be a refreshing and honest approach since this show just glorifies an oppulent lifestyle that many have lost in these economic times... why not a "real" story... good luck..

How did Bravo go from an artsy channel to a constant source of vapid, narcissitic dreck? This show is evidence of all of the worst of Miami: shiny, Botoxed, financially overextended (LOL at the fact that a couple of these posers are in the RE and mortgage industry, no wonder they need to appear on a realty show for $$$$ ), backstabbing and self-absorbed.

A few of these comments are absolutely unnecessary and rude. Keep your opions about her to yourself. No need to bring her marriage into it. Geez, be a little classier people.

Instead of judging her as a person judge her professional choices or something. I dont think any of us have the right to act like our sh*t doesn't stink. Kat you are a role model and keep your head and good work up. :)

This shows ranks up there with the most ponderence, boring waste of time that come out in a long time. Rather watch a Magic Bullet infomercial instead of this dog.

Whether she likes it or not she is a celebrity and that means her whole life will now be an open book for people and tabloids to scrutinize and comment on, inlcuding her marriage. Nothing will be sacred as it comes with the territory so get used to it...

Katrina and Ben are the only ones on the show that I can stand! They make a great couple, gorgeous and normal compared to the others. They should cling to each other--their show buddies are the posers that are out there.

Has there ever been a more fake female. How on earth could anybody with that type of personality actually expect to keep a husband for any length of time. She's worth about as much as those condos she's trying to peddle

Ummmmm, Katrina is the one who put her marriage and sex issues out there for the whole world to view. Now, any grief she may get comes with the territory, period. She's also a bit of a fraud. Anyone who has to constantly tell everyone how hard they work more times then not actually does very little. "Running around" and "hanging out"is not considered work by most people outside of Sobe.
Katrina does have pontential if she would ever stop chasing being a "star" and focus on something real.
FWIW, the show and most of the cast is beyond awful!

I've never watched the show, I figured it was gonna suck without wasting my time. Reading these posted messages is hysterical though...

POSERS!!!! Mna, All of these wannabes are in the mortgage industry, it figures.

Typical South Beach types. Vapid, stupid, insipid, and self-absorbed, and those are their good points. This is their 15 minutes of fame. 10 years from now when they're living in Kendall they can brag they were on this show.

If you want a real laugh, look at their bios on www.bravotv.com. Every other word is chic and hot. It's like it's written by a 7th grader.

South Beach was hot 15 years ago. Now it's full of the homeless, cheap tourists, and pretenders. What is Katrina insiring women to do? Drink champagne all day? Sorry, hun. They guys are silly and looking for someone to take care of them. HAHAHA!

Katrina and her fellow imibeciles are so desperate for fame but they forgot to look up the word infamy---good luck to them as they make asses of themselves on this, possibly the worst reality show in the short history of the genre.

Guys, it's the "Miami Social" dream and lifestyle that will sell our houses and condos to people all over the world. So what if it's silly and not really "reality" Katrina is doing what all great Miami realtors do, she's selling the Miami dream, and we should be thanking her for it!

I don't think she drinks champagne ALL DAY, I think she's working hard and earned a well deserved (if staged) break!

Miami dream??? How about the Miami nightmare! Nobody who is a native speaker of English even wants to go visit there. Great for the Cubans but not the Americans. And the show could not portray Miami worse if they tried. Reality?? Yeah, right! Katrina, you were somewhat tolerable on the Apprentice but on this show you're just another loser like the others.

As someone also in real estate, just look up her public information on http://gisims2.miamidade.gov/myhome/propmap.asp
She claims to be so successful in real estate but her house is something any middle class family could buy. Bunch of posers!
