Hornets aim for "player development"

Hornets president Hugh Webber and executive of the board Chad Shinn met with local broadcast and print media on Thursday.

Webber spoke for the organization:

1) He said the Hornets must be better at "player development". Don't rule out additional assistant coaches that will be added to the Hornets staff to accomplish this goal. Said Webber, "some of our players were better at the beginning of the season than they were at the end." Clearly this is an offseason sticking point in the Hornets inner circle, especially after an anemic bench was a big part of why the Hornets were embarrassed in their five game playoff series with Denver.

2) He said Chris Paul and David West were "our core players". West, because of his play and his "friendly" contract, could be a prime target for teams looking to deal with New Orleans in the offseason.

3) Webber said the Hornets aren't officially over the luxury tax number until next February's trade deadline. So, if the Hornets wanted to start the season with the current roster, they could and not be penalized monetarily.

4) Webber said the Hornets have sold 9.000 season tickets for next year, about 1,700 fewer than last season. He said that number still puts the Hornets in the top five in the league in renewals. He said the Hornets still hope to exceed the 10,700 season tickets sold mark of 2008-2009.

Raymond Williams:

I know you might not think this will work, but I think it will.
Now please tell me what you think about this trade senerio.
New Orleans will trade James Posey to Detroit, Mo Peterson to Memphis and Peja Stojakovic & Julian Wright to the Toronto Raptors and get in return Tayshun Prince from Detroit, Marc Gasol From Memphis & Chris Bosh From Toronto.
Please tell me what you think about this.
I don’t think we’ll be able to get rid of Tyson this year because of his injuries this year and the fact that the trade fell through with Oklahoma City. So I’m thinking that we might have a better chance of trading Peja with someone else to at least get him off the payroll. And maybe if Tyson have a good first half of the season then in February we might be able to send him off.

OR

Here’s another off season trade that might work, the Hornets will send Julian Wright, Mo Peterson, & Hilton Armstrong to Detroit, Tyson Chandler to Cleveland, and in return the Hornets will get Ben Wallace From Cleveland and Tayshun Prince from Detroit.

Is this a workable deal?

Which do you think will work for us.

Raymond, I appreciate your attempts at being an NBA general manager. It is obvious that you know you're salary cap stuff. However, I think the Hornets have only two real tradeable pieces. Most teams will want David West. Tyson will indeed be hard to move because of his salary and his tenuous injury situation.

Please let me know what you think? Thanks, Ed
