Keeping good on his word, independent TWU executive board member Marty Goodman filed charges against Roger Toussaint.
“I am bringing charges against Local 100 President Roger Toussaint for violating Article VIII, section (b) of the Local 100 By-laws during our historic 2005 strike, the first in 25 years. The provision states, in part, “The Executive Board shall be the supreme body in the local union…” In doing so, Toussaint also violated Article XIX of the TWU Constitution, Section 5 (o) in regard to, ”conduct unbecoming a member of the union.”
Goodman wrote TWU recording secretary Darlyne Lawson on Nov. 17. Goodman believes Toussaint’s “secret deal” violated the union’s charter.
Now, The Tracker predicts this charge like some 200 brought against Toussaint since 2001 will go nowhere. Anyone can file charges.
The union spokesman was unavailable on Thanksgiving. But, in the past he said all these kind of charges are without merit and simple harrassment. Two weeks ago, for example, a lawsuit againt Toussaint that cost the union tens of thousands of dollars to defend was suddenly dropped.
