It's Part II of our recurring series about unique features at Long Island parks.
This time, it's the skate park at Nickerson Beach Park in Lido Beach. We're fairly certain it's the only such place at a county owned park.

Earlier this summer, I got to thinking. Every park, be it state, county or town, has pretty much the same stuff: open fields to run around and an area to do something sporty. The bigger parks have more stuff, and the smaller parks have less stuff.
But there are quite a few parks on Long Island that feature very unique things, things that you can only do at a particular park.
First up in this recurring video series is the aerodrome at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford. Sure, you can fly a model airplane in your backyard if you want, but only Cedar Creek has a dedicated field with runways and field controllers.

Host Mark La Monica had so much fun competing against the kids at Hither Hills State Park in the Sand Castle Contest, he was actually upset when he didn't even come close to winning the coveted championship T-shirt.
On Saturday night, a Southampton teen received second-degree burns while competing in the the demolition derby at Riverhead Raceway.

Season 2, Episode 2: ExploreTV host Anne Machalinski wanted to learn how to surf. So, we sent her to Surf2Live and master surf instructor Elliot Zuckerman in Long Beach.
Annie Mac is a great sport, so she didn't mind getting beat up by the waves for our amusement. I recommend the front face plant (filmed from the side). It's rich.
