This summer a group of local American heroes from world war two will be honored in the nation's capitol.
Honor Flight Chicago is making the trip possible, thanks to their "honor a vet" program.
They are the newest hub of the national honor flight network.

Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C., a Jamaica, N.Y., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The fresh meat and poultry salad products were produced between April 19 and April 24. The frozen products were produced between October 23, 2007, and April 23, 2008. Recalled products were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide.

Bottle warmers recalled

About 5,000 deluxe bottle and food warmers, manufactured in
China by Munchkin Inc., pulled back because they can overheat,
posing a risk of fire. The company has received nine reports of
warmers overheating, including several that caught fire. No
injuries were reported. The warmers were sold in the company's
catalog and by a variety of retailers around the country between
June 2007 and April 2008.

Cubs' players have some new pink accessories in honor of Mother's Day.
They wore wrist bands and ribbons as part of Major League Baseball's "Project Pink" that raises awareness about breast cancer.
Pink bats and bases we also used in play as a reminder that early detection is key in fighting the disease.

JSM Meat Holdings Company, Inc., a Chicago, Ill., firm, is voluntarily recalling an undetermined amount of beef products intended for use in ground products because they may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The following products are subject to recall:

30-, 60- pound boxes, combo boxes or 47-gallon barrels of "MORREALE MEAT" beef products labeled as "Boneless Chucks," "Boneless Clods," "Flat Rounds," "Gooseneck Rounds," "Knuckle," "Heel Meat," "Scotties," "Trimmings 50," "Trimmings 60," "Trimmings 65," "Trimmings 70," "Trimmings 75," "Trimmings 80," "Trimmings 85," or "Trimmings 90."

The beef products bear the establishment number "EST. 6872" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These beef products were distributed to establishments for further processing in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Indiana has started an online system to let people know when Lake Michigan beaches are open or closed.

The new feature is called "BeachGuard" and can be found on the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Web site. It updates swimming conditions along Indiana's 43-mile-long lakeshore in Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties.

High levels of bacteria in lake waters sometimes lead to beach closures, including the popular stretches along Indiana Dunes State Park near Chesterton. This new feature will allow lake visitors to check conditions before heading out to the sandy shores.
