Apple's New iPhone

Speculations over the new iPhone have spread across the Internet. Kurt the Cyberguy is at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference where Steve Jobs is expected to unveil all the new features of the next generation iPhone.

One of the most anticipated changes for the new iPhone is 3G networking from AT&T, which means faster data speeds and Internet connections compared with the current AT&T setup.

Also expected is more "open" operating system--third-party developers will be able to create programs for the new model (and supposedly for current models as well).

Additional features likely to be included are GPS mapping capabilities, an increase in storage from to 32 GB, and a cheaper price tag--the iPhone is expected to start at $199.

Check back to wgntv.com for the latest information on the iPhone.

Mattress Recalls

About 20,000 Simmons Kids crib mattresses manufactured in the
U.S. by Simmons Kids have been recalled.

The mattresses are recalled because some of them are narrower
than the 27-1/4 inches required to prevent a gap between the
mattress and the crib's railings, which could trap infants. The
company has received one report of an infant getting wedged in this
gap.

The mattresses were sold at Pottery Barn Kids and other
nursery furniture shops between July 2006 and May 2008.

Online alert system for beach closures

Indiana has started an online system to let people know when Lake Michigan beaches are open or closed.

The new feature is called "BeachGuard" and can be found on the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Web site. It updates swimming conditions along Indiana's 43-mile-long lakeshore in Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties.

High levels of bacteria in lake waters sometimes lead to beach closures, including the popular stretches along Indiana Dunes State Park near Chesterton. This new feature will allow lake visitors to check conditions before heading out to the sandy shores.
