Florida and Offshore Drilling

Somebody wrote in when I did a cartoon last week about Gov. Charlie Crist's flip-flop on offshore drilling. Normally, I dismiss the comments of people who use the combination "you liberals" as just name-calling in order to avoid presenting a reasoned argument for their premise.
This gave me pause, though, because I have never thought of the environment or climate change as a liberal/conservative issue. I did watch "The Exterminator" (former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, so named because of his previous profession as a bug man) on TV one night espousing the official stance of the Republican Party, which is that there is no scientific proof that climate change is caused by human activity. I guess it's just one of the holy mysteries.
Anyway, last I heard, even conservatives have children and grandchildren whose future well-being they worry about, which is why we should reconsider this not as a political issue, but a moral one. Then we could work on it together.

Mr. Lowe, you are absolutely correct when you say environment or climate change is not a "liberal" or "conservative" or party issue.
I'm moderate/conservative, yet I have always been very Pro-environment,
Pro-conservation, Pro-wildlife,(Anti-drilling in Florida & in the Arctic Wildlife refuge!!!!)Pro-Everglades Restoration etcetera.
Anyone who doesn't believe in global warming is deluding themselves.
Unfortunately, I feel that a lot of conservatives don't want to protect our Natural Resources. I want to know, WHY?

It's not that they don't believe in it; they just don't care about it because they know the Rapture is coming and the Earth will be destroyed soon anyway. Don't you know anything? What kind of heathen are you? Don't tell me you don't know about the seven seals and the white horses, either ...

I'm of the firm belief that most of those who oppose dealing with global warming, destruction of the environment and the like do so because the realize that even if they are wrong, they won't have to deal with the consequences. Future generations be damned - let's go back to strip mining and eliminate the EPA altogether. While you're at it, let's get OSHA off everyone's back as well. Full speed ahead!!
