FPL Rate Hike

We're all frustrated ratepayers, but at least I get a chance to vent about it. We serfs suck up the rate increases while our government "regulators" in Tallahassee lash the utility with a seemingly endless supply of wet noodles.

Attacking FPL is like Bush attacking Iraq. The terrorists were not there. The source of the problem is high oil prices. And until that is dealt with, everything is going to cost much more. Look at food for example. My food bill has skyrocketed at least 20% in the last 2-3 years.

The best users of the old "we're just passing along the cost" line is the oil companies. I'm not much on high finance, but it seems like simple arithmetic: If they are "just" passing along the higher costs, then their profit would stay flat wouldn't it?

Funny how they make record profits in the same year (a year of major recession for the rest of us, by the way) they need to "pass on" the hikes ... Who are we supposed to pass on our increases to? Maybe the kids should get a reduction in their allowance for the rise in food costs.

This kills me, the rate hikes are to keep the profit margins in line with the expectations.
FPL is likely making millions on the oil futures markets equal to or greater than the needed price hike.
My conspiracy theory is that the energy companies are driving up the commodity prices with the amount of available leverage they have to move them in any direction they deem fit.
I owe, I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go....

uh, folks...
our country is addicted to oil... and our economy is based on oil... and oil is spiking... and FPL is researching alternative energies.
Give credit where credit is due, huh?

Wait, you seriously think there's some sort of collusion going on here? Give me a break, FPL and all the other utility companies are feeling the crunch too, just like we are; I'm sick of these conspiracy theories. You think that would actually fly? Or be economically viable for anyone? No dice. I'll support any efforts FPL is making to secure alternative energy sources - ensuring cheap and environmentally friendly fuels for our future.
