The CIA revelations

You can “look forward, not back,” as President Obama says he is doing in distancing himself from his “rogue” attorney general, Eric Holder.

This, of course, is an adroit little sidestep. After all, Obama’s the one who nominated the guy. Holder, as a member of Obama’s cabinet, serves at his pleasure. I guess this kind of waffling is what they call “leadership.”

Anyway, an investigation of alleged illegal acts is probably a good thing for the republic. Obama has made it clear that those who were only following orders will not be prosecuted (that argument didn’t fly when it was made with a German accent, but this is the national security of the American homeland we’re talking about now, folks).

That leaves…whom? Probably nobody, because going after the principals of the Bush administration who set the policy would distract everyone from Obama’s priorities, not to mention possibly derail his presidency.

In any case, if we don’t at least examine the excesses of our behavior and do a little public self-reflection, then our already-battered worldwide reputation as a nation of laws will suffer even further.

And the terrorists—while not exactly winning—will have achieved a tactical victory in the battle for hearts and minds.

Oh, right. Obama is surrounded by excesses. Let's see terrorist sympathizers, tax cheats, avowed socialists, former jail birds... Nope, no excess here.

Carry on, then. Let's go after people who have a sworn duty to protect American citizens against all foreign and domestic enemies. We know that our enemy has not stopped its mission to attack us again. Hey, but let's not worry about any of that. It's much more fun to destroy our first line of defense, which is our ability to gather critical intelligence.

But why try to prevent a terrorist attack when it's more fun to let trusting, dumned-down Americans take a hit instead. Yep, that should be loads of fun for you and the Joker in the White House.

Whispering now: We'll just conveniently pretend this is not political or that we're evolving into a third-world banana republic where we prosecute our political predecessors.

Love that "self-reflection" thing though. That'll help, I'm sure.

"...if we don’t at least examine the excesses of our behavior and do a little public self-reflection, then our already-battered worldwide reputation as a nation of laws will suffer even further."

To Branda:

Two words: "Geneva Convention."

If we no longer chose to
live by those rules, then, at
least, lets be honest about
what type of torture we support. And if we turn our
back on the Geneva Convention, then what exactly DO we stand for?

to Branda:
if you are interested to read about the origin of the concept of "banana republic":

To Anna...maybe you should actually read the Geneva Convention before you invoke it...dolt.

Here is the direct quote:

"Section IV : Partisans -- Armed enemies not belonging to the hostile army -- Scouts -- Armed prowlers -- War-rebels
Art. 83. Scouts, or single soldiers, if disguised in the dress of the country or in the uniform of the army hostile to their own, employed in obtaining information, if found within or lurking about the lines of the captor, are treated as spies, and suffer death."

Anna...I'll try to use small words for you...to be part of an "army", you have to fight under a flag, wear a uniform, etc. You are correct, we do not follow the Geneva Convention...that says we can kill them. Everyone at Gitmo could be killed under the Geneva Convention. I agree w/ you completely...we should do exactly what the Geneva Convention says. Democrats would be happy...we could close Gitmo because all the prisoners would be dead. It's a win win.

So this time Lowe is comparing water boarding these precious terrorist to save American lives, to what the Nazis did to their prisoners? That is so wrong and shallow on so many levels I can't even get into it. Its the highest insult to compare innocent prisoners at Nazi death camps to terrorist who killed so many innocent people. And that is just what Lowe is doing. And Sebastian is correct, in order to get Geneva Convention rights you yourself must conform to the Geneva convention, or they do not apply. If or when we do get attacked again , and their is a large loss of American life due to Obama's and Holders persecution of the CIA, and other bizarre policy's, I hope we will have the right people answering questions to a new prosecutor ?

Its the highest insult to compare innocent prisoners at Nazi death camps to terrorist who killed so many innocent people.

Aren't you even embarrassed dave to spew this nonsense? I suspect you believe you are defending freedom. But, how can you defend freedom when you dehumanize the "enemy" and deny freedom to everyone?

There are human rights. They are intrinsic and unalienable. The Geneva Convention does not confer rights; it simply demands that governments recognize those rights. Unfortunately, the evil that is government often ignores even the most basic of human rights.

You are convinced of the guilt of these "terrorists." You believe the propaganda spewed forth by the same government that stated the murder of 500,000 children was "worth it." {Google Madeleine Albright and 500,000}

I believe people generally have good intentions. Peace and prosperity will follow once we are able to respect our fellow men and their private property. Sometimes it is difficult to remain optimistic, dave, with people like you running the government.

Earth to Lolly, they are TERROIST. They admitted it, they told us about other plots they had planed to kill Americans with, it could have even been you! However, because we gave them the first bath they ever had with a good dose of water boarding they came clean! Are you so naive that you believe that terrorist have good intentions, but we of coarse don't? They kill people all over the world everyday in the name of their religion. I seriously hope you can understand that Hitler was not such a good guy with such good intentions as you think most people have. Madeleine Halfbright gave nuclear reactors to the north Koreans because they promised they would not build nukes, and you dare quote her to me? People like you are the problem in the world because your to naive and allow real evil to flourish . Evil can only prosper when good people do nothing.

Just keep in mind that more people died in Ted Kennedy's car then ever died from water boarding.

Olga...Good point

they are TERROIST. They admitted it, they told us about other plots they had planed to kill Americans with, it could have even been you

When people are tortured they will say anything to make the torture stop. The information acquired in this manner is completely unreliable.

Yes, I could be killed by a terrorist plot. And yet, I feel much more threatened by our government than by our enemies.

I do not believe terrorists have good intentions. I also don't believe muggers have good intentions. I can significantly reduce my risk of being mugged by using some common sense precautions. One common sense precaution against terrorism would be to bring all our troops home from foreign soil.

People like you are the problem in the world because your to naive and allow real evil to flourish . Evil can only prosper when good people do nothing.

I am doing everything I can to prevent evil from flourishing. You are wrong. Evil will win out when good people trust their government.

"When people are tortured they will say anything to make the torture stop. The information acquired in this manner is completely unreliable."

Not true. Nonsense.

"One common sense precaution against terrorism would be to bring all our troops home from foreign soil."

Yeah, sitting on my tailgate and shooting the rats when they leave the dump is much better than cleaning it up.

We had a pitiful shortage of intel assets, our organization were not allowed to share with other agencies.

Waterboarding is torture but unmanned drones leveling villages is better.

It would be nice to not need to rebuild our intel resources after a Democrat Adminstration.

Yeah, sitting on my tailgate and shooting the rats when they leave the dump is much better than cleaning it up.

You don't own that dump. Your idea of cleaning it up involves murdering innocents and motivating future terrorists.

Most of us believe in "limited" government. That's a fiction. There is no entity powerful enough to limit government.

The efforts of all the criminals and terrorists in history pale in comparison to the mass murders committed by governments in the past hundred years.

The only thing that can keep government in check is the will of the people. Therefore, I am forced to try to convince you, Aquaadverse, that your patriotism is misplaced.

Our government lied us into World War I. It maneuvered Japan into attacking us to start World War II. It lied us into Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. It lies to us about global warming, the banking crisis, and the flu. Why do you keep listening to these Bozos?

Redirect your energy and patriotism toward reclaiming our freedom. Work to eliminate the income tax so you can decide how to best spend the money you earn. Don't support the republicans. They are lying. They are in cahoots with the democrats, who are lying to their supporters.
