Florida's gay adoption ban

Floridians have such a wealth of issues to be ashamed of that it’s hard to pick one out of the morass, but the state’s ban on gay adoption is surely one of the standouts.
Florida’s draconian law, which presupposes that an orphan is safer at the mercy of the “system” rather than in a loving home (if that home consists of a gay couple), is based on at least two misbegotten premises:
The first is that being gay is a matter of choice, and can be drilled into an innocent youth the same way the Chinese Communists brainwashed our boys in “The Manchurian Candidate.”
The second is that all gays must be pedophiles, or they wouldn’t want kids in the house in the first place. If this were true, then why are gays allowed to be foster parents? If you’re going to be bigoted, at least be consistent about it.
I have a theory that the Republicans in the legislature rammed this nutty law through, but realize that as mores change, it’s starting to make the state look silly. Nobody wants to be the first to bend by suggesting a repeal, because the morality police in his constituency will crucify him.
Best to settle it in the courts, where they can scream about “legislating from the bench,” wash their hands of this tar baby, and move on.

Just some more hot air with out facts to back them up. Lowe states ,"The first is that being gay is a matter of choice, and can be drilled into an innocent youth the same way the Chinese Communists brainwashed our boys in “The Manchurian Candidate.” Not true studies thus far find that between 8 percent and 21 percent of homosexually parented children ultimately identify as non-heterosexual. All studies suggest that basic fact, why does Lowe choose to ignore the truth, or worst make up his own based on his own ideology. Also the American Psychological Association reversed itself from its 1998 report and admitted there is no gay gene, and that is now their stance. Based on the hard proof I see, I think the state made the right choice and they should be proud not ashamed. After all, aren't we supposed to place the long term welfare of these poor children in front of everything, even its our self serving political ideology. Haven't they had enough bad luck?

Dave --
Given attitudes like yours and those shown by the FL legislature, who in their right mind would choose to be gay? It is destiny, and frankly I think gay people are the most courageous among us, simply because they have to live among those who demean and demonize them.

In reply to Dave, how many people with Down's Syndrome have one or both parents with Down's?
The point is that genetic abnormalities can be congenital as well as inherited. In such a case, the person is genetically programmed, just as if that trait were inherited.
There nay not be a "gay" or "lesbian" gene, but the genes that control brain development can be altered congenitally so that the limbic area, where the sex drive is located, can be wired to be cause attraction to the same instead of the opposite sex.

Chan, would you allow a married couple who practice the "swinging" lifestyle to adopt a child? Would you permit those who work as legal prostitutes in states such as Nevada, adopt children? Would you permit a single parent, who has multiple partners living with them, adopt a child? If you truly believe the sexuality of the adoption applicants does not matter, then I can only assume is that you would allow such persons to adopt children. This is what happens when you accept one sexual perversion - you must accept the others too.

Sad, but True......... We're just not there yet.
Why subject an orphan to the prejudice? Ridiculous, stupid, moronic, juvenile, whatever the truth about the prejudice, progress should not be made on the backs of adopted kids.
They have enough to deal with.

Your sexual orientation has no bearing on your ability to raise children. Not only that but every,non-biased medical association out there has studied extensively and proven that a child raised by gay parents is no more likely to be gay than a child raised by heterosexual parents. So whats the problem? The problem is that religious based groups hold our legislature over a barrel and force their narrow minded laws on the apathetic public. They would rather have these children languishing in the foster care system (because THEY wont adopt them) until they are 18 and and will then be forced out with no back-up, leaving many of them to fend for themselves. How Christian of them. At least give theses kids a fighting chance at having a loving home with stable parents to provide a foundation for the future. Who cares if its Steve and Steve or Sally and Jane?!

Jeanne uses a broad brush about "religious based groups". The Catechism of the Catholic Church has an item (2358) about homosexuals. It says, in part, "They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
